On June 6th, more than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by days end, the Allies gained a foothold in Continental Europe. Within ten days, there were half a million troops ashore, and within three weeks, there were two million.
The numbers are simply staggering. Unbelievable.
Yes.
I’m not so sure we saved it.
Unbelievable whats going on in our country on this anniversary. What would the greatest generation say? I can honestly say I am glad my WWII veteran father is DEAD so he does not have to see it.
On June 6, 1944 American Soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, on June 6, 2020 rioters are storm businesses to steal anything they can....quite a contrast don’t you think.
Save the world? Hitler didn’t want the US. Obvious.
He was actually talking with the paratrooper (a fellow Kansan) about working in a grocery store growing up.
Dont forget - many COMMUNISTS here agreed with his policies and supported him which was why we stayed out of the war for so long.
It wasnt until he turned against Russia that the communists decided he wasnt a true socialist and demanded war.
Then went revisionist history about how Hitler was always evil.
Two keywords, "dday" and "19440606", sorted, duplicates out, 639 topics:
The day that saved the world...
...and more and more, lately, we ask “for what”?
And to this day, Stalin and the USSR are excused all their evils.
the REAL anti-fascists
PS Communist AF desecrated the memorial to the fallen military who served in WWII
However, we also now know the second front was absolutely necessary to stop Stalin and the Sovs from dominating post-War Europe. By occupying Western and Southern Europe and most of Germany, the Allies saved those countries from Soviet occupation and communist rule.
And our “ally” Stalin, was perfectly fine with Hitler running roughshod over Europe, until Hitler invaded the Soviet Union.
Without crucial supplies from the Soviets, it’s doubtful that the Germans could have had the success in France that they did.
Anyone notice that there were no movies or shows on last night about D-Day? Even TCM ignored it.
Disappearing history at the hands of ungrateful little punks.
“Anyone notice that there were no movies or shows on last night about D-Day?”
On the other hand, there were all kinds of black-centric movies, shows, and documentaries. I didn’t see the movie, “Gifted Hands”, on any guide list — funny thing about that.
We started binge re-watching “Goliath” on Amazon to escape the propaganda.
Because Hitler was a dumbass who didn't understand strategy or tactics, and would always choose the wrong option when the stakes were highest, the Germans were probably inevitably intercoursed. Just before Kursk, Hitler pulled two divisions out of Op Zitadelle and put them into Italy. Brain dead. The Italian terrain was sufficient, and was some of the hardest fighting of the war. The USSR needed lend-lease and needed the second front, and demanded both from us, and got both.
It turned out to be a very good thing that the British talked us into doing North Africa first. Had that same force and commander invaded France D-Day could have turned out very different.
Indeed, Hitler was a dumbass who thought he was a military genius. It didn't help that he deeply distrusted the Prussian aristocracy that was the heart of the General Staff. He made so many idiotic decisions that shortened the war.
I read someplace that there was a secret debate in British intelligence whether they should try to assassinate Hitler should the opportunity present itself. The contra position was based on the fact that Hitler was making so many dumb decisions he was giving the Allies material assistance.
