Ike and Monty Review the Troops Before D-Day
Gen. Dwig/ht Eisenhower, commander-in-chief of Allied Forces in Europe, reviews troops shortly before the June 6, 1944 Normandy invasion, while British Gen. Bernard Montgomery looks on. The invasion of Northwest Europe by the Allies, code-named Operation Overlord, saw more than 2 million troops land on French soil between D-Day and late August; hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides, and tens of thousands of deaths; and constituted one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history.

Welcome to FR, btw.
Sadly, it’s difficult to find articles this morning about some of the individuals who fought that day. Due to this nation’s worship of their president, almost all the news is about him.
Yes, indeed. Fox News to their great credit provided coverage of the D-Day Commemoration live from Normandy, France.
And they did not use teleprompters.
Yes, absolutely. The same sort of courageous, regular hard working freedom-loving men we have stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, the rest of the world’s trouble-spots, keeping the world safe today from the same sort of evil, tyranny that threatened to engulf the world sixty five years ago.
Great post. Thanks. My Uncle (RIP) Bill was a 19 year-old kid on an LST that hit the beach 65 years ago, today. He was one of the fortunate that made it back home and lived a fabulous life, marrying and raising five wonderful children. He died a couple of years ago from natural causes.
Thanks to all who have served, all who are serving, and all who will serve in the future.
I thought the French president gave a good speech and paid thew American soldiers and this country great honor. Even the PM Mr Brown gave a very good speech honoring our military.
Thank you very much for your kind words. It is much appreciated.
