Vice President Mike Pence will deliver the keynote address Thursday at the National D-Day Memorial's 75th Anniversary Commemoration of D-Day.

The memorial foundation said the address will be titled "D-Day and the Nation."

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the memorial at 3 Overlord Circle in Bedford.

I've been planning a trip to the Memorial for months to observe the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

There's a reason the Memorial is located in Bedford, VA.

The website will explain.

If you plan to attend, I'll see you there.

I believe my brother and his wife are planning to be there. Our dad was on Omaha Beach on D-Day, detonating mines so troops could go ashore. He received a Navy Cross for his valor.

Very nice...

I’m sure Trump will be trashed for not being there.

If Trump shows up, Big Media will trash him for being there.

If Trump doesn’t show up, Big Media will trash him for not being there.

If Trump performs seppuku on the White House lawn, Big Media will trash him for doing it wrong.

There’s a common theme in all of this.

The White House has D-Day well covered:

He’ll be in Normandy.

Yeah, there’s reason in your logic.

Good. Of course they were complaining about that too.

I’ve been a supporter of the Memorial for a few years. They’re privately funded (no federal $$$), and very worthy of a donation.

The staff is extraordinary. They see groups of school children every day.

These kids are the very last generation that will ever have the opportunity to meet a WWII Veteran.

When that thread breaks, it’s up to us to tell their stories.

God Bless your Dad. His generation taught us what bravery is and means.

Was he a “frog man”? They weren’t called Navy Seals back then.

My family and I toured France last year, and Normandy, its beaches, and its memorials to those who fell there were extremely moving. The American Cemetery is appropriately somber, yet gives one hope, as it recalls those who died in this assault on tyranny. It’s out of the way, but should be on the bucket list of any American. If you can never experience it in person, at least do so virtually.

I can’t believe they have the gall to invite as keynote speaker a man who believes marriage is between a man and a woman.

My dad was in the NCDU, naval combat demolition unit, forerunner of the Navy Seals. However he was no frogman. Not a great swimmer. He went on to serve in the Pacific, at the outset of another great Navy .org— the SeaBees.

It is a hallowed place. My gratitude to the French, who left things pretty much as they were so we can see and appreciate what was done by brave young men for freedom and liberty.

To the young men who survived... “Thank You” doesn’t say nearly enough.

There is also a well-maintained cemetery nearby for the German soldiers who fell.

It’s in LaCambe. Dark, severe German architecture.

The D-Day museum across the road is excellent.

Correction:

The British Cemetery is across from the museum.

LaCambe is up the road a little.

I feel sorry for those soldiers, most were just little kids when Hitler took power, never had a chance.

IIRC, Bedford VA in terms of per capita lost more men during the Normandy campaign than any other community in America at the time.

My great grandfather was a salvage diver assigned to the USS Vestal. He was there during the attack on Pearl Harbor and took part in the rescue operation on the USS Oklahoma which capsized during the attack trapping hundreds below deck.

Wow. Your great grandfather was the right man in the right place at the right time, I guess. A lot of men owe him their lives, no doubt.
