Amazing collection of photos taken during the WW2 and nowadays. The WW2 photos were taken during the invasion of Normandy on and after D-Day.

Absolutely incredible! I’ve done some living & traveling in europe and have seen bullet holes and signs of destruction from some of the buildings but its absolutely fantastic to see so many before and afters. More amazing is to see that not much has changed in alot of the pics.

Isn’t it amazing that many of the cities we and our allies wrecked during WWII have rebounded and put many of our major cities to shame?

Wow! That is an amazing group of pictures! A lot of those buildings we North Americans would have just knocked down and built new ones but they restored them and for the most part they look like they are well taken care of. I’m glad I happened on your post and got to see this.

Awesome web page! Lots a great pics!

Those fortifications the Germans created on the beach must have been very well built. They are still holding up very well after all the years near the ocean.

Interesting.

Most of the captured Germans don’t appear to be very hostile, do they? I guess they were the lucky ones.

Not exactly the end, but the beginning of the end. Those captured Germans probably got to spend the rest of the war in a decent POW camp instead of fighting and dying to defend the Fatherland.

Many of the “Germans” in Normandy were actually eastern Europeans that were pressed into service by the Nazis. The US actually captured to Koreans soldiers in Normandy. These had apparently been captured by the Russians at some point and put to fighting the Germans. They were then captured by the Germans and put to fighting the allies. Amazing.

I was thinking the exact same thing. In the US we would have plowed under every building in those shots. Europe does have a sense of history that we are missing.
