For anyone interested in The History of WWII and The D-Day Invasion, The Radio Time Machine is playing over 10 consecutive hours of live news reports of the D-Day invasion that were broadcast 60 years ago today.
Just press the button above.
If you have a ping list to WWII buffs, I think they might be interested in this.
The live coverage starts in just 20 minutes, I think. 2 AM central time...I'm afraid to sit on the couch, might fall asleep and miss it!!!
Why wait? Just press the play button now.
Thanks for link; been recording on cooledit for about 4 hours now while I was asleep. When I started listening, there had been no official announcement the invasion had begun; just one unconfirmed report from Berlin Radio. This show gives a perspective on 6/6/44 I have never heard or will ever hear anywhere else.
Ping. I'll have to listen when I get home from church. Thanks.
Thanks dude. This is cool.
Thanks, P-Marlowe. Great find!
Thanks for the ping Spooky.
The first broadcast anouncing the invasion will be re-broadcast at about 9:20 AM PDT and run for about 10 hours, then will be repeated again about 10 hours later.
Please note that the audio quality of these old recordings is sometimes bad, especially when receving shortwave transmissions from Europe.
The contrast between the way CBS reported WWII and the way they have reported the War on Terror is striking. CBS used to be an American Company. Now it is an international corporation with no loyalty to the United States and no interest in winning the War on Terror.
There is no better history lesson than a live broadcast of history in the making.
Just press the button above.
Thanks for the ping Sam.
This broadcast gives a perspective on the events of June 6 you couldn't get anywhere else; quite amazing.
It's just like actually sitting next to a radio stateside and listening to the reports as they come in.
I recorded 6 1/2 hours and saved as an mp3 (185mb(!) ) after cutting out the live365 ads; going to keep it and listen to it every june 6.
I'm listening to stream now and it's some I've already heard; would like to hear the very beginning. Great stuff.
The latest 10 hour broadcast started at about 9:20 PDT this morning. The playlist is 10 hours and 17 minutes, so the whole thing should start over again about 7:45 PDT tonight. Hour 2 has some really lousy feed from Europe for about 20 minutes. Hour 3 is probably the best because that's when the information starts getting pieced together. Later in the day they return to their normal broadcast programming and then keep interrupting it with updates.
It is rather fascinating, isn't it?
Does CBS question anything that comes from Al Jazeera today? No. The only statements that CBS ever questions today are statements made by the White House or from the US Military.
If this president had the support of the news media today that Rosevelt had in 1944, the war against terrorism would be over by now.
find later bump
The broadcasts are a real window into history and ourselves. I could render a hundred comments--but one of the clearest examples of a changed society and national character is Roosevelts broadcast specifically to offer the nation a prayer--and the commentator noted he prohibited reporters and photographers during that event.
The commentators refer repeatedly to "our boys...". Now of course our soldiers are routinely identified as the epitome of evil and world destructors among those claiming to be the global media.
I now am certain I was meant for an earlier time. President Bush battles not just foreign enemies, but those among us claiming to be objective media, and domestic terrorists (maybe one the same).
Oh, wait, this was 60 years ago, when there was a "loyal opposition."
