French Appeasers Plan to Exploit 60th Anniversary of D-Day

The notoriously cowardly French are scheming to exploit the 60th anniversary of D-Day as a celebration of appeasement and a slap at attendee President Bush.

"There's a desire to gather on that day to say, even without saying it aloud: 'Never again. We are here so that there is a space on a global scale for peace.' Otherwise it would make no sense. Why do all this if it is not a message of peace?" Hamlaoui Mekachera, France's minister of war veterans, said today.

War has taught the French there are no winners, he said.

American Rescuers, Like Nazis, 'Are All Losers'

"We paid a heavy price. The Americans, perhaps, had no war on their territory. Americans who did not fight the war, who did not come to Europe to fight, cannot perceive as much as we do the disastrous consequences of war," he said.

"We became aware that in the end, those who lose the war and those who win it are all losers."

Advice to Mekachera: Try recalling what happened when France tried to make "peace" with Germany's National Socialists. Unless, like most Frenchmen, you prefer not to think about your country's collaboration with Adolf Hitler.

Bush is really on the horns of a dilemma with this event. He shouldn't go, frankly, because he shouldn't allow himself to be seen in the same photo as Chiraq. But if he doesn't go the press will have a field day snarking his "disrespect" for the fighting men of WWII, the last "good war."

It is an opportunity to deliver an important speech, however, and I hope he takes full advantage of that. We need more clarity on our war goals right about now, as well as some soaring, inspirational rhetoric from our commander-in-chief.

What unbeliveable sentiments. How decadent they are.

Normandy was the dumbest thing we ever did. Ze French were perfectly happy living under Nazi control and we should have let the Nazis keep it. They deserved no better.

I respectfully disagree. Normandy was necessary for many reasons including the protection of American shipping and the UK.

However I am beginning to believe that our participation in WWI was unnecessary. WWI was entirely a European event. Had we not participated, France would have lost...therefore no Hitler, no Normandy invasion.

Bush should send the secretary of commerce. This way the French can be reminded that we may or may not be revising our tariffs on French goods.

By 1944 Hitler had lost at Stalingrad and was being pushed back in Russia. Ze French were sending men and materiel, (not to mention Jews who were herded onto passenger trains) to Nazi Germany so that they could continue to fight.
