PARIS, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- France will raise its four-step terror alert "Vigipirate plan" to the second-highest level, red, for the ceremonies of the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy on the June 6, French Prime Minister's office, Matignon, announced in a statement on Friday.

The terror alert will be raised from "orange" to "red" from May 24, and then extended to all the territory of French mainland during the ceremonies, Matignon said, adding that it was raised toorange from the Match 11 Madrid attacks and to red in the rail stations and airports.

French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin has prepared all thesecurity steps with the agreement of the president of the Republic to ensure the security of the nation and guests present at the ceremonies, according to the statement.

The Vigipirate plan, implemented in Match 2003, has four levels:yellow, orange, red and scarlet, from the lowest to the highest.

US President George W. Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Britain's Queen Elizabeth and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder are expected to attend the ceremonies along with other world leaders.

Also on Reuters, but this title was more descriptive.

I can see how the D-day celebrations could be a very attractive target for terrorists with key world leaders attending.

I hope we will be able to foil any attack.

If red is the second highest level, the highest level must be white.

They said the highest level is "scarlet".

It looks like their "red" is equivalent to our "orange", which is really very high.

I think going to THE highest level means an attack is in progress.

I would have thought that they would have paid off the Ossama boys just to skip that week in France. There is already a rumor on the street that Greece paid a hefty sum to some Saudi group to ensure that no terrorist activity occurs during the olympics.

"France to raise anti-terror alert level for D-Day celebration"

First thing you got right in decades, congratulations France. First time for everything, maybe now France could start a trend.

Why would the terrorists attack France? Heck, the French scabs are on thier side for crying out loud! It'd be like attacking the Socialists in Spain or Canada.

IIRC, the French system goes something like this:

1. Run
2. Hide
3. Surrender
4. Collaborate

Under the hightened state of terror-alert, French anti-terrorist agencies are frantically searching for terrorists to surrender to.

Already got it. Every destination we'll be going to in the continent of Europe has received alerts of this kind. I only hope they don't cancel the commemorative parachute jump that morning.

"France is the only country that ever lost two wars to Italians. The French have gotten the surrender business down to a science. To save time, they figured out a way to surrender even before a shot is fired. Nobody ever aimed even a bow and arrow at Paris but the Germans looked like they were going to do it and the French immediately gave up the city. The last French general who won any wars was Napoleon, but he was not a Frenchman, he was a Corsican. The first Muslims to ever defeat a western army since the Crusades were the Algerians, who kicked the French out of their country. The only war France ever won was the French Revolution and that's because they were fighting against themselves....

The French were originally against having U.N. inspectors in Iraq in the first place, but when inspectors were appointed, they undoubtedly found comfort in the fact that the two leading inspectors' first names were Hans and Mohamed.

Americans should boycott French products. The fact is, because of French cowardice the lives of American soldiers are now at greater risk. There are many items that we as Americans could do without because of their French origin. The reason the French invented perfume was that they stink, but other countries also make colognes. We all ought to walk by the counters selling Christian Dior, Chanel and Cartier. We should not take Club Med vacations nor go anywhere on Air France.

We have been indoctrinated into believing that anything with a French name has some special mystique. If you take the same garment and instead of the label saying Christian Dior, it says Hymie Lipschutz, nobody would buy it. In fact, they would probably cut off the label. Evian water is basically only as good as tap water. If you put bubbles in it, you would have seltzer, but nobody would drink it with that name. If it were called "Seltzier," seltzer would become a major hit.

We were in Paris and saw all those Parasites. Americans who have been there remark on their rudeness, the fact they never miss an opportunity to overcharge and are insulting. But look, you can stay home and get the same treatment from your wife. You will save the air fare and be patriotic, all at the same time."

For the country whose flag I have placed above this comment, which of these alert systems is the official one?

I think this is the real deal:

Did I mention that John F. Kerry is the French-looking candidate, supported by the French people, French filmmakers, French politicians, and especially French military capitulation experts.

Why would the terrorists attack France? Heck, the French scabs are on thier side for crying out loud! It'd be like attacking the Socialists in Spain or Canada.

The reason why it would be a perfect target for terrorist is due to the following:

US President George W. Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Britain's Queen Elizabeth and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder are expected to attend the ceremonies along with other world leaders.

And the location (France) is perfect, primarily due to its central location, proximity to the middle east, and a large population of Algerian muslims with extremist ties.

It is definitely going to be Al Queda's best shot. Think of it, the president of the US (perfect at killing terrorists), the president of Russia (ruthlessly effective at killing terrorists), the British Queen (Q. Elizabeth may be largely a figurehead, but imagine the impact if she was hit?), and the leaders of Germany and France (who, even though they have not supported our war in Iraq, have passed some anti-Islamic laws that would never pass in the US).

And all these people are together ...in one place.

The only good thing is the security is going to be amazing. Our secret service and FBI is going to be combing the place, the Ruskies will have their 10-foot tall guys prowling, MI6 will also be there .....and I am sure the Germans and the French will also send their guys (let me say the GS9 and the GIGN special services are not your stereotypical french and german dudes). However, even with all the security, the target must be exceedingly tempting for Al Queda!

Very good post spetznaz. The fact that all of these leaders in one place is what concerns me about this Summit meeting. It would be one helluva way for the terrorist thugs to throw each country into a tailspin at once.

Errr not the G8 Summit meeting, although that would be a rich target too.
