Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday declared a three-day ceasefire in the war with Ukraine next month to mark the 80th anniversary of World War II Victory Day. The Kremlin said the 72-hour ceasefire would run from the beginning of May 8 and last through the end of May 10. "All military actions are suspended for this period," the Kremlin said in a statement. "Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example." "In the event of violations by the Ukrainian side, Russia's armed forces will give an adequate and effective response," the statement said.

President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he sympathized with the Russian position that Ukraine should not be part of NATO, and he lamented that he will not meet Russian President Vladimir Putin before his inauguration. Speaking at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago club, Trump also blamed outgoing Democratic President Joe Biden for allegedly changing the U.S. position on NATO membership for Ukraine. "A big part of the problem is, Russia - for many, many years, long before Putin - said, 'You could never have NATO involved with Ukraine.' Now, they've said that. That's been, like, written in stone," Trump...

Brits are clamouring to sign up after an offer from Vladimir Putin to leave the "woke West" and move to Russia to embrace its "traditional values," the Kremlin has claimed. According to reports from Moscow, 17 people from Scotland have been in touch with the Russian Embassy to enquire about Putin's "fast-track residence permits". It was after the Russian dictator amended immigration laws to tempt more Westerners to come to his country. Putin has effectively said westerners would be seeking asylum from wokeism in Russia as he was offering "humanitarian aid" to people "who share traditional Russian spiritual and moral...

Russia has blamed the "hostility" of Baltic states for them severing most of their ties with the country. "Because of the openly hostile line of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, all interstate, interdepartmental, regional and sectoral ties with Russia have been severed," said Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharov on Sunday. She warned Moscow would respond with asymmetric measures, though did not specify exactly what the Baltics had supposedly done. "We will also respond to the hostile actions of the Baltic states with asymmetrical measures, primarily in the economic and transit spheres," Zakharov detailed. Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine has...

The US Army's new manual on Russian tactics is an impressive-looking document. It's 280 pages packed with details and diagrams of how Russian soldiers are supposed to fight. It is also evidence of a major reason why Russian troops have often fought poorly in the Ukraine war: they are not following their own playbook. "A lot of the basic elements of that doctrine are sound enough that they could form a basis for successful operations," Scott Boston, a Russia military expert for the RAND Corp. think tank, told Business Insider. "But you do have to follow them." To be clear,...

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) â The Ukrainian village of Ocheretyne has been battered by fighting, drone footage obtained by The Associated Press shows. Russian troops have been advancing in the area, pounding Kyivâs depleted, ammunition-deprived forces with artillery, drones and bombs. Ukraineâs military has acknowledged the Russians have gained a âfootholdâ in Ocheretyne, which had a population of about 3,000 before the war, but says that fighting continues.

The Azov brigade is still not allowed to receive US assistance, and Zelensky has refused to resolve this issue, said brigade commander Denis Prokopenko. According to him, the team twice tried to submit a petition on the website of the President of Ukraine, but they refused to publish it. The OP referred that this issue does not fall within the competence of Zelensky. The point is that the US itself is prohibiting the supply of American weapons to Azov. âThis was a consequence of amendments to US laws, which have been in force since 2017, and block the provision of...

US House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith said that holding on to the territory currently under the control of the regime in Kiev is the best outcome for Ukraine, given the realities of its conflict with Russia. Ukraine must hold on to approximately 82% of its territory, including access to the Black Sea, in order to consider the outcome of the conflict a success, Smith said, according to a Foreign Policy report released on Thursday. The Biden administration has avoided making such a statement because it does not want to admit that Ukraine might have to relinquish territory...

The French paper Marianne has published excerpts by secret military documents that are causing an uproar in Europe and the world, for dealing with the situation on the ground in Ukraine without the disguise of propaganda that pervades almost all reports on the subject. In the piece, the French journalists wanted to understand what happened to President Emmanuel Macron to make him consider sending troops to Ukraine? These âconfidential defense reportsâ explain the âpanicâ at the ĂlysĂ©e palace. When it comes to the perspective of sending troops to fight the Russian forces, they were incredibly blunt in their assessment. Several...

American officials estimate that nearly 200,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded in Moscowâs nearly yearlong conflict with Ukraine, The New York Times reported. The rising number of casualties is driven in part by heavy fighting in Bakhmut and Soledar in eastern Ukraine, where Russia is increasingly sending poorly trained recruits and convicts to the front lines in an effort to deplete Ukrainian artillery, according to the Times. However, officials have warned that the casualty numbers â which are based on satellite imagery, intercepted communications, social media, on-the-ground reporting and official government numbers â are difficult to estimate and...

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the...
