After replacing his former boss Susie Wiles as the White House Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller has urged the president to end the war in Iran. That war was undertaken with the idea of eliminating Iran’s nuclear research program but was incredibly unpopular with the American people.
“Miller's pitch for the job, according to people who heard it, was that the president needed to wind down the Iran war, a conflict that the president's core supporters viewed as a betrayal,” said The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman in live updates.
The war in Iran, launched by Trump along with close US ally Israel in February, has been deeply unpopular with a GOP base that believed the president when he campaigned on a promise of “no new wars.” This message stood throughout the first year of his second term only to be dashed when the small US-Israeli coalition decided to try to remove Iran’s nuclear program for good.
The attacks on Iran came after a strike called Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, where the US bombed the nation’s Fordow site, where fuel enrichment for nuclear weapons was believed to be happening. Trump also launched an action in Venezuela to remove dictator Nicolas Maduro, and while the MAGA base questioned these initiatives, the war in Iran has proven to be a much lengthier operation, resulting in high gas prices.
Following the midterm elections, Vice President JD Vance posted to X that the Iran war was to blame for the Republican defeat on Tuesday. “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so.

It’s either that, or he hands the WH over to AOC in 2028.
How do you end that war? Iran is not shooting at our tankers.
Another WH leaking to Maggie for things that never happened.
Americans usually do the right thing after they’ve tried everything else.
What would ending the war even entail ? The massive sanctions would probably stay on but would America just let Iran fire on ships going through strait ?
John Lennon didn’t live to see it but Yoko Ono is still alive. Age 93. ☮️

Islam will NEVER end the war. What’s YOUR plan Steven?
If the ships didn't pay toll fees to Iran for passage permission they would be fair game for Iran. Toll gate jumpers even get arrested in NYC. The accompanying Chinese ships will escort them through. /S
do you believe stephan said this?
President Trump decides to end the Iran War to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran wants financial compensation from the United States and would agree to eventual inspections by a neutral agency, such as the United Nations, to ensure it does not develop nuclear weapons. However, Iran would retain the right to peaceful uranium enrichment. Otherwise, Democrats could have an easy path to the White House in 2028.
How does he “end” the war? Nixon style or Truman style? Or is some other way?
Okay.
Nuke Tehran and get it over with.
The Pope would be happy to see the war end. Will be grateful he voted Dem again.
If we do that, we will get all of the bad consequences of the war with none of the good consequences of the war.
Iran will get nukes, kill millions of people, control the strait, and start World War III while the Communists in America will wreck everything at the same time.
This is not a new war. It’s been going on for 47 years. President Trump is the first President to actually engage the enemy.
"The MAGA base" that "questioned" those at the time was a minuscule number.
the war in Iran has proven to be a much lengthier operation, resulting in high gas prices.
They are still a dollar less per gallon than what they were in most places...$4.70 per gallon vs. $3.70 per gallon - that is not insignificant. Because it was no longer the $2.70 per gallon it had gotten it down to, people supposedly were up in arms...so naturally the solution was to vote those back into power that caused it to be $4.70 per gallon, and whose long standing policy is to make gas prices significantly higher to force people to drive less and buy electric cars.
(Democrat) Secretary of Energy Granholm laughs her head off at high gas and oil prices
More than the current easy path. /S
Back in April there was support for the war IF the US ended it with victory. Never with the ending showing "it was all a waste of time and money and lives." As peaceniks point out about so many past "conflicts".
Or maybe not...
The usual suspects. Unnamed sources, reports, anonymous officials. The psy-op continues.
