GOSPEL of JOHN
Chapter 20, Verses 24-29
Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Carravagio was not a nice man (in fact it is alleged that he was a murderer!), but he sure knew how to capture a dramatic moment! I love his work.
One of my favorite terms a “doubting Thomas” which I often use and am amused by the look of confusion on the face of Millennials when used. Many of the confused are neo-pagans these days, and not just Millennials. Sad.
“Dramatic” is, I think, the adjective I too would use for his work.
We get to meet and hang out with good ol’ Tommy for eternity. Most people, from every generation, will miss out on that joy.
Thank you Dan; these took much time to locate and post. We who ‘await His coming’ appreciate your ministry.
Yes indeed, Caravaggio is a master of the dramatic.
Leon, I HAD to post this so everyone could “see and believe”. LOL
All have details of great beauty. I noticed that Bloch and Knuepfer have the rib wound on the left side of Christ’s chest, all others on the right side. West, Stom, Duccio and the statues by Verrocchio are my favorites.
Fensters-aplenty tomorrow.
Looking forward to seeing them.
I ought to label that section “ALBA’S WINDOWS”.
If He was a typical temperamental artist,he was likely given over to moods and outbursts no doubt. Artists feel things passionately, and try to get those feelings on paper, canvas, in stone. Metal, etc, 5he problem comes with the artists being too critical of their own work, some feel, failures, or that they don’t stack up against other artists, or that they can’t get out of their heads, onto the medium, the feelings they wish to portray. Many artists will tell folks their gift is a curse, because it wo t let them create what they thi k they should be able to, but they can’t stop, from trying, over and over and over. It drives them.
There was an artist, Matisse I think? Who had created great paintings, but was never “finished with them and woild, would, disgusted and throw them In The fire and destroy them. Folks who saw them couldn’t understand why, because to them they looked fantastic, but to him they were reminders that he couldn’t quite achieve what he set out to.
It really is a kind of curse. I will do a portrait, and see an area of the face, or hand or whatever, and something just seems off to me, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, and will, try all kinds of things to “correct the area”, think I’ve got it at 2 am in the morning, get up the next day, and it looks worse than when I tried to “correct it”. Others will look at it and think it looks OK, but I’m just not satisfied. I can see the I perfections, the off color, the wrong tone, shade, light, perspective, etc. I love trying to create, but hate it at the same time. I usually just walk away fro a painting when the agonizing over it becomes too much, and never finish it
YES! I want and need them all! All mine! You are so generous, Dan!
You sound like Gollum, LOL.
I strongly advise against taking up golf, Bob.
I tried it for awhile. Not my cup of tea. More into archery and plinking , fishing etc.
Are you accusing me of having a schizoid personality?
Not schizoid, but “fanatically acquisitive”. How’s that?
Much better. I was about to unleash the Viking Kitties on you!
