12:41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on." | 21:1-4 As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." |

Stained glass windows, illustrations, paintings of so many different styles, all contribute to an excellent page. What a treat to absorb so much beauty early on the day.
It’s a treat to produce this for appreciative viewers like you, Alba.
These reads have brought about something of a spiritual awakening for me and I am very grateful for it.
You, Ueriah, were one of the folks God had specifically in mind when He told me to start this series. He loves you and wants to bless you, and this series is just one of the ways He will use.

Good Morning, Dan! :-)
Mary-Lou, it’s always a pleasure. Now, your presence triggers an idea. Please check your mail.
I scrolled through the picture/windows bemused by the variety of ages of the widow. I also noted several of them had the woman with child or children.
That wasn’t the image I had of the widow. I pictured her as a destitute but pious old widow.
Why?
Mark 12:41–44; Luke 21:1–4
41 Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, 1 He looked up, 41 and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much. 42 A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.
43 He called His disciples to Himself, and said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury, 44 for they all gave [and] 4 put in gifts for God 43 out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”
The extravagance of her gift, everything she had, amazed Jesus. This indicates someone truly alone, with no responsibilities and no hopes of more. I can’t see a younger widow, let alone one with children give all she has to the temple/God.
Some trivia about the coins, quadrans and the lepta, widow’s mite:
Mark 12:42 – Two small brass coins, which equaled a quadrans coin, Greek; literally, lepta or widow’s mites. Lepta were very small brass coins worth half a quadrans each, which was a quarter of the copper assarion. Lepta were worth less than 1 percent of an agricultural worker’s daily wages. A quadrans is was a coin worth about 1/64 of a denarius.
This is from my unpublished book, ‘The Gospel Medley’.
For perspective, a denarius is a day’s wage, say $15x8 hours=$120 1/64 is like $1.88.
The implication is that she was corruptly coerced into foolishly impoverishing herself. Centuries of approving sermons thereby are turned on their heads.
When one of my daughters was young and had learned about heaven, often she pinpointed the context of a discussion by asking whether it referred to "this real world." No mother in this real world would deprive or endanger her children as did this woman.
