26:6-13 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked. "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor." Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." | 14:3-9 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, "Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year's wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly. "Leave her alone," said Jesus. "Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." | 12:1-8 Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages. " He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. "Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me." |

I stole all the stained glass windows. Unabashed thief!
I love also #34 and #35. I see that in one pictures the woman is identified as Mary Magdalene. If so, this must be the first time we see MM. Right?
Good Morning, Dan! :-)
I like #9.
I am calling the stained-glass police force (SGPF) on you:
"Be on the lookout for an art fanatic who may have numerous windows in her possession. AKA "etabeta". Known associates include Mary-Lou, John and Dan. No known tattoos or other distinguishing characteristics. As unarmed as Venus de Milo and not a bit dangerous."
I am not unarmed.
Ahahah! You are funny! A room of my house instead of walls has all the stained glass windows I stole, the light and sun produce celestial colors, my crystal cathedral.....now dare to report me!
Somehow, I expected that.
"Stained-glass windows sparkle only in the Sun
Sin-stained humans sparkle only in the Son"
LOL.
We had a Venus De Milo replica at my Jr. High School, and you DON’T want to know what we naughty teenage girls used to do it. (Hint) Venus is a 44DDD.)
The impetuosities of communal youth....
And you DON’T want to know what we did to the boy with a thorn in his foot.
I was scrolling through, enjoying the art, when I saw an image with a woman crying over Jesus’ feet. That was a DIFFERENT anointing at a different place and time. That was the unknown sinful woman at Simon’s the Pharisee’s house during His second year of ministry.
Luke 7:37-39
New American Standard Bible 1995
37 And there was a woman in the city who was a [a]sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, 38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a [b]sinner.”
In summary, the differences between the two anointings:
1. Time: second year versus fourth year of His ministry.
2. Location: Simon the Pharisee’s home in Nain (last city mentioned) versus Simon the leper’s home in Bethany.
3. Anointer: a sinful woman versus Mary of Bethany.
4. Part of Jesus anointed: feet versus head
Put simply: I was well aware of the distinction, but one slipped past me. No one fields 1.000.
“Isn’t your beef with me rather than with Alba?”
Perhaps. But you’re so gracious and kind I can’t complain about you or your curation at all.
No one has ever called me “gracious and kind” before. Will my wife ever be surprised!
