New models that show how the continents were assembled are providing fresh insights into the history of the Earth and will help provide a better understanding of natural hazards like earthquakes and volcanoes. "We looked at the current knowledge of the configuration of plate boundary zones and the past construction of the continental crust," said Dr Derrick Hasterok, Lecturer, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Adelaide who led the team that produced the new models. "The continents were assembled a few pieces at a time, a bit like a jigsaw, but each time the puzzle was finished it was cut...

There may be no better example of the disintegration of the Connecticut Republican Party than the reaction party-endorsed candidates for governor and U.S. Senate got this month to their very bland, happy Gay Pride Month tweets. You would think, from some of the blistering criticism they heard in response tweets, from the hardcore within their own party, that they had suggested sex with donkeys. If moderate Republicans aren't allowed by party regulars to acknowledge Gay Pride Month in Connecticut in 2022, how can they ever find common ground with Connecticut's moderate voters on thornier issues like gun control and abortion?...

When Sally Ireri moved to California from Nairobi, Kenya, five years ago, she didn’t expect life to be this difficult. Studying for a doctoral degree in mosquito genetics at UC Riverside, Ireri has had to borrow money and car rides from friends because she makes less than $30,000 a year from teaching. *** “I don’t know if I can afford to stay here,” said Ireri, 28. “I’ve made a community in the past five years and if I have to leave it’ll be sad.” The plight of Ireri and other foreign graduate students adds another layer of woes to California’s...

In a potentially seismic shift in the Republican race for governor, downstate farmer Darren Bailey has seized a 15-percentage-point lead over Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin less than three weeks before the Illinois primary, a new Chicago Sun-Times/WBEZ Poll has found. The survey of 677 likely Republican primary voters taken Monday and Tuesday by Public Policy Polling showed the first-term senator from southern Illinois opening up a commanding lead over Irvin and their four other primary rivals, marking the first public poll to put Bailey ahead of the pack. A total of 32% of respondents said they’d vote for Bailey if...

The King of England was the head of the Anglican Church from the time of Henry VIII in 1534.Download as PDF ... Beginning in 1535, all English subjects, including those in English colonies, were required to the Oath of Supremacy:"I (state your name) do utterly testify and declare in my Conscience, that the King's Highness is the only Supreme Governor of this Realm ... in all Spiritual or Eclesiastical things ... So help me God." For most of England's history from 1535 to 1829, not to take the Oath of Supremacy was considered treason, resulting in government prosecution, fines,...

Pope Francis Urges Sicily’s Catholic Priests to be Moral Guides — But to Drop the LaceVATICAN CITY — Pope Francis told priests and bishops from the Italian island of Sicily on Thursday to be strong moral guides, and to update their art and vestments in conformity with Church reforms.“In Sicily, people still look to priests as spiritual and moral guides, people who can also help to improve the civil and social life of the island, to support the family, and to be a reference for growing young people. High and demanding is the Sicilian people’s expectation of priests,” the...

Thirty-five House Republicans voted in May 2021 in favor of legislation that would have created an independent commission to investigate the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. While that bill never advanced, due to filibusters from Republicans in the Senate, the shadow of the vote has hung over various primary races as the conservative base reconsiders — and in some cases turns against — the GOP lawmakers who bucked the line in a party largely defined by loyalty to former President Donald Trump.

BALTIMORE — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, nearing the end of his administration and actively flirting with a presidential bid in 2024, could face a significant challenge winning Republican voters’ support over former President Donald Trump in the state where Hogan has been a popular, twice-elected governor, a new poll shows. In a potential primary matchup between Trump, Hogan and four other possible candidates, Trump has twice the support of Hogan among likely Republican voters in Maryland, according to the poll from Baltimore Sun Media and the University of Baltimore. Trump was the first choice of 48% of Maryland Republican voters,...

Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over a televised hearing by the Jan. 6 Select Committee during a Thursday press conference. “Nancy Pelosi’s sham committee is illegitimate and its sole purpose is to punish Democrats’ political opponents,” Stefanik said about the committee. “It will not prevent another January 6 from happening. It is not about finding out why Nancy Pelosi left the capital so ill-prepared on that day, and it does absolutely nothing to address the numerous crises Americans are suffering from every single day because of Joe Biden [and] Nancy Pelosi’s radical far-left...

"If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will definitely not hesitate to start a war no matter the cost," Wu Qian quoted defence...

There is a certain amount of irony in the fact that now I am much older, and I hope wiser and better informed, I am never invited to give my opinion on TV or radio shows or for the press. The mainstream media prefers its experts to stick to the official and accepted line on whatever topic is under discussion. What viewers, listeners and readers don’t know is that many so-called experts have been bought and paid for, and when they open their mouths they are merely saying what they’ve been told to say by their employers. The drug industry...

Black Americans may need to “flee the country” in the face of an apparently growing population of “crazy White people” who are “not to be trifled with,” according to a recent Washington Post piece. In “Why Black people are afraid of ‘crazy’ White people,” columnist and associate editor Jonathan Capehart begins by letting readers in on a “little secret” — “black people” don’t fear typical white people, but rather “crazy” ones. “Things felt so dicey during the Trump years, I half-joked that my husband and I might have to reenact that scene from ‘The Sound of Music’ and flee the...

Doctors are allegedly baffled at what is causing a sudden uptick in what they have dubbed ‘Sudden Adult Death Syndrome’ among adults under the age of 40 over the past year, and are now urging all under 40’s to go and get their heart checked. But these doctors need not remain “baffled” any longer because we have rock-solid evidence that the Covid-19 vaccine is to blame. Healthy young people are dying suddenly and unexpectedly from what doctors are dubbing “a mysterious syndrome” and these same doctors are now seeking answers through a new national register. People aged under 40 are...

I think there have been numerous board meetings about killing at least 90% of us off to save “Mother Earth.” The Georgia Guide Stones, which was built in 1980, really got the ball rolling on this planned Culling of Humanity. reason.com from 2006: At first, I thought someone was making a really stupid April Fool’s joke, but apparently it is true that the Texas Distinguished Scientist of 2006, University of Texas ecologist Eric Pianka, told a meeting of the Texas Academy of Science that 90 percent of his fellow human beings must die in order to save the planet. A...

Guess I'm different. From the very beginning. As the planes took off to my favorite Foghat music the ground(deck) crew, through their signals and mannerisms were acting like they were choreographed dancers, not crewmen. Manly, machismo. I dig it man! Then there's the big man-hugs. Makes you think that in adversity all our societal problems are solved regarding feminism and race. All that Gung-ho stuff just had to make me laugh. Been there-done that.
