I'd been here a couple of months, and had begun to worry about handling all the threads. Sooooo, today I grabbed all of the pages by source, grabbed the tables of links to posts to and from me, and sorted them (the easy way, well, as easy as it gets) alpha instead of chrono.

Please, don't tell me that there's a way to do that automatically, or my brain will hurt.

Bachelor Buttons are now found on the front panel of my microwave. I've just discovered that the "Hungry Man" lasagne dinner I'd purchased on sale some months ago really is a great way to dispense with an appetite, but not in a good way. Glad that's over. The garlic bread did not taste of garlic. I used to cook for myself, all the time, but haven't touched the range in, well, years. This microwave has been with me since about 1981, and has been a real trooper.

I've got the week off. Once again finding myself in a use-it-or-lose-it situation vis a vis my vacation and personal time, I'll be taking all of it around the late major holidays, resulting in 12 days (10 vacation, 2 personal) burned off and 28 contiguous days off in two chunks. Next year I will take my time off during the summer months, as I've said every year for the past five. Late in 2008 I will look back on relaxing summer days spent on the beach.

If I hit the lottery, I'll be looking back on the entire year of doing that.

Alas, my Amazon reviewer rank has fallen to 1334. I guess I'll have to stop spending so much time on FR and write one new review per week. I really need to do that as I read the books, rather than having to check back over my notes made while reading them (and assuming the notes haven't got lost meanwhile).

As a result of the nearly-month-old topic Samsung breakthrough packs 128 GB on one flash memory card, I made one of my ever-great predictions, this time regarding the future of HDTV, with some more elaboration here.
I'll bet the leadership gave Snowe and Collins and maybe the other guys permission to vote for cloture, since their votes DIDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. So they got permission to please their liberal bases, since for practical purposes it was only symbolic. That's how the leadership is supposed to handle the good RINOs. The bad RINOs are the ones who defy the leadership on key votes. Jim Jeffords. Lincoln Chaffee. Both happily gone. It enrages normal Republicans, but it pleases the idiots who vote these guys into office. -- Cicero

I updated this less than twelve hours ago, but saw what you're about to read in KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle's tagline, tracked it down via a post on another forum (FR gets more than its share of covetous attention), and am quoting from the original.

In the process of writing this update, I noticed I'd dropped the final digit in my total posts number. Oh, and I misspelled "Vanilla Fudge". We can't let that happen again, think of the historians and biographers. ;')

One more edit -- I've archived the October entries, and finished the dated links, *and* moved the links up on the page, so that they immediately follow the current month's entries.
Paul, who ran for President in 1988 as the Libertarian Party's nominee, said it's more practical to run as a Republican, noting he spent half of his money in 1988 just trying to get on the ballot in all 50 states... A word from Jim Robinson to the moonbats... To all antiwar moonbats, Paulistas included... In case you antiwar Paulistas haven't noticed, Free Republic supports the war effort 100%. Many of our chapters protest against the antiwar moonbats either weekly, monthly or whenever the opportunity arises. The DC Chapter has been protesting against the antiwar moonbats EVERY Friday night at Walter Reed for three years... When you are supporting antiwar moonbats you are working against Free Republic's mission, hurting our efforts, hurting our families who have lost loved ones or have loved ones involved in the fighting, hurting our troops, damaging their morale, working against our efforts to defeat the enemy, and, in fact, giving aid and comfort to the enemy... As far as our official policy on Ron Paul is concerned, it's the same policy we have for his antiwar moonbat allies the traitors Harry Reid, Chuckie Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Jack Murtha, Cindy Sheehan, Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda, CodePink, International Answer, et al and their flaming antiwar spam monkeys. Ron Paul and his flaming antiwar spam monkeys can Kiss my Ass!! Where the hell did you guys ever get the idea that enemy supporting antiwar moonbats would be welcome on FR? -- Jim Robinson

My hit counter jumped a lot in just a few days, and in the nine days since my last update jumped nearly a hundred. Thanks for the curiousity.

The biggest news topic, I believe, has been the Annapolis conference on Mideast peace. You do realize, of course, that it could have been held in Hell, Michigan, and would have made far more sense if it had. The best part would have been that none of the superstitious Moslem a-holes would have shown up. They forfeit! Israel wins!

But seriously:
Hamas, the Hizzies, and Iran are getting marginalized. So, for that matter, is Jimmy Carter and the Klintoons. This conference will actually help Obama in the primaries, and help beat the Dhimmicrats next fall. -- SunkenCiv
While I'm glad there's a widespread expression of outrage, anger, and (mostly) frustration about the apparent selling-out of Israel, that this conference is taking place is a step in the right direction, because it involves direct ministerial talks between the various criminal Moslem Arab states, and Israel.
[snip] The Olmert government, backed by the leftist Israeli media, has presented the decision of Arab and Muslim states like Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan and Indonesia which do not accept Israel's right to exist to participate in the Annapolis conference as a major breakthrough. But this is nonsense. The representatives of these states will use their American-provided platform to condemn Israel, just as they use every other available international platform to do so. [end]
Talking doesn't work. Neither does not talking. Neither does fighting. Neither does not fighting.
-- SunkenCiv
To my good buddy Convert from ECUSA, I wrote this:
As much as we'd all like to see Iran liberated, my guess is that Israel will be the next major front against al-Qaeda. Israel should be given everything it needs (apart from US troops) to prevail, but Iran must be liberated. I think there's a high probability that the new "wisdom" among insiders that a new balance of hostility will be constructed (or perhaps reconstructed) involving Iran and its neighbors, a sort of containment policy. -- SunkenCiv
I'd regard containment as a possible disaster, but regardless, no more than a temporary state of existence. Unless one believes that sanctions can work -- and China, the EU, and Russia will ensure that they don't -- there's no way for the illegal mullahcracy to be removed. Again, Annapolis is part of ensuring Iran's continued regional isolation.

Cincinna has been doing a great job tracking French political developments, IOW, the French election campaign, runoff election, and spectacular opening run by Nicholas Sarkozy, a.k.a. Sarko, a.k.a. right-wing candidate, a.k.a. hyperpresident. A search for something else entirely (and it beats me what that was) turned up this, from about a year ago:
Segolene Royal, the French presidential candidate, was embroiled in a damaging row on a visit to the Middle East yesterday after appearing to condone a Hezbollah MP who denounced US "insanity" and compared Israel to the Nazis... Ali Ammar of Hezbollah... In a 20-minute tirade... attacked "unlimited American insanity" for sending troops into Afghanistan and Iraq. He then said that Israeli "Nazism" was no better than Hitler's Third Reich. Ms Royal, who is on her first overseas trip since winning the Socialist Party primary, replied: "Thank you for being so frank. I agree with a lot of the things you have said, notably your analysis of the US." -- FRANCE: Royal stumbles in row over attack on Israel as 'Nazi'
That's the face of worldwide socialism. Remember it.

As the new, left-ish, Australian PM, Kevin Rudd, described as "the Labor leader and a staunch republican" (he's a socialist) takes power and hopes to sever ties with the British monarchy, the Queen and Prince Philip recreate honeymoon photo to mark 60 years of wedded bliss. Of course, their moronic son, and (despite his divorce) heir to the throne a year ago claimed that the Problems of world could be solved following the teaching of Islam, and early in 2007 advised the world to ban McDonald's food. I'd advise that do-nothing, ugly, mofo to A) shut his mouth, B) turn off the TV, and C) start working for a living. A-hole.

Hey, maybe Rudd's onto something. ;') Even if he succeeds at this, I do wonder if he's just cast a long pall over his own, hopefully short, tenure as PM. That would fall under the "two birds with one stone" category.

In Mormons, Mayans and Mystery I posted a link to In Search of Book of Mormon Geography. My post has nothing to do with Mitt Romney or his candidacy. If he gets the nomination, I will vote for him -- I will vote for the eventual Republican nominee, no matter who that is -- but I think he'd make a better VP candidate, despite his east coast connection. The fiasco with the Big Dig killed his chance to be elected, at least for the time being. Eight years as VP will clean up his resume', unless of course he barfs it up some other way in the meanwhile.

In the topic Vista woes lead IT pros to Macs, Linux, Nervous Tick has a great tagline -- Retire Ron Paul! Support Chris Peden (www.chrispeden.org).

Speaking of Linux, in the topic Apple launches new 'Get a Mac' Web ad: "Give Up On Vista", martin_fierro sez, "On my Christmas wish list this year: ASUS eee PC". It's a slightly-sub-notebook which fires up in 10 seconds or less, offers Skype, Kopete (multi-network chat client), Firefox, and an open-source office package. The target price was $250, but I see it's about $400 from a couple of places.

AOL has been presiding over its own demise throughout the rise of broadband. My seldom-used chat IDs on AIM seem to all be dead. Yahoo's free email rose to the top, then turned into a manifestation of Hell on Earth (kinda like surfing under Windows OS). Gmail has been filling the email void by keeping it free to users and building in effective automatic spam-filtering. Now, like a humbled former bully, AOL wants me for its friend. The link to the AOL mail tour actually appeared in the pane when I was in my Gmail box last night.

When you can earn a good living selling ad space to competitors, you probably sleep pretty well at night.

Thanks for your help, my Amazon reviewer rank rose by two.

On the 26th I read an email, "Become a Scottish Laird"; it's one of those eco-scams. At one time there was a different, amusing scam, where 1 sq inch lots in Hell were sold; now there's something I could afford to visit once in a while. I guess some would argue that there's already a lot in Hell, and likely to be a lot more in the future. But anyway, it turns out the good people of Hell have started Damnation University. Here in western Michigan Hope College and Calvin College are archrivals, so it would only stand to reason that Dam U should have to face off with a Perdition College. No, I haven't looked, or there'd probably be a live link there. ;')

Hell seems like a great place to start a blues joint that serves ribs and of course alcohol. All the tableware could be shaped like pitchforks, and nubile young girls in red sparkly devil catsuits could gyrate in cages suspended in the eating area. Throw in an Indian casino and we're there.

Michigan is the envy of all other states, because we also have Paradise. And in the same genre (at least to many people) is Climax. I saw a comedian onetime who claimed that while driving to the gig with his wife, they spotted the 1-mile-to sign for that town, and his wife said, "great, we'll finally get there at the same time."

Of course, one could point out that, with the incompetent demagogue, liar, crook, and carpetbagger Jenny Grandstand in the governor's mansion -- thanks again to all anti-DeVos trolls here on FR, and all those who claim Michigan is just a socialist has-been, for contributing to that -- the whole state is turning into Hell.

My reference to Hell, Michigan in the November 27th entry was going to segue' into all that, but I figured it had gone on long enough. So has this.

A good way to get banned may be to advocate for Rudy or even to advocate for a 'wealth tax'. The wealth tax sounds like a mighty useless idea.

But I will vote for the eventual Republican nominee, no matter who that is.

I'm pretty sure that bugs some people, but I don't care.

One thing I do understand is dealbreakers, and that's something that seems to motivate a lot of anti-thisguy and anti-thatgirl carpers. Put simply, one issue (if lucky, otherwise a handful of issues, and if very unlucky, dozens to hundreds of them) is of such overriding importance that such a voter won't support a given candidate, irrespective of all other stands on all other issues. That's the kind of lack of circumspection (for that matter, introspection) that results in the election of someone who such a voter can't support due to pretty much anything.

It's a form of immaturity, hot-headedness, or let's just say stupidity. My view is that such a voter is fairly rare, regardless of the related noise and troll activity. Mostly I regard online manifestations as troll behavior, just to give people the benefit of the doubt -- y'know, doubt as to whether they're stupid.

Don't get dragged into Hell by such a troll. Trust me, you don't want to live there. And remember, you don't have to.
