Are you a pickle connoisseur? If so, extreme weather in Mexico may be impacting the availability of the snack in the U.S. Every year, Americans consume more than 20 billion pickles, but recently, consumers have noticed some restaurants warning of a "national pickle shortage." The warnings from restaurants such as Firehouse Subs, local delis and others are generally bona fide, as both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and experts from North Carolina State University say that the combination of reliance on imports and extreme weather could impact supplies.

The billionaire founder of Craigslist, Craig Newmark, is using his fortune to further shape journalism into partisan activism to help Democrats win elections. He is the nation’s leading financier of the “mis”- and “disinformation” industries and is now the largest private stakeholder in America’s legacy journalism schools. The most recent Twitter Files released by Matt Taibbi add a deeply disturbing new layer to the story. They show Newmark is at the very heart of an incestuous web of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and corporate media institutions operating in concert to censor political opponents on social media. Newmark is financing the...

Dill pickles can be found in most grocery store refrigerators across America. The crunchy, tart condiment veggie is perfect on a snack plate, on cheeseburgers, or even on its own. But after trying nine different dill pickles, I learned that not all brands are created equally. The top brand from my taste test was the easy favorite with my friends and family who participated and let's just say the bottom brand isn't one I will be buying again, even if it's the only jar left on the shelves at the grocery store. Keep reading to find out the best tasting...

A Florida teacher is facing criminal charges over allegations she bit two students in a dispute over a jar of pickles. According to WFLA, Bartow police and the Florida state attorney's office have filed two misdemeanor battery charges against Polk County educator Rhonda Rice. She is due to be arraigned on March 31. The charges relate to an alleged incident that took place at Bartow Middle School in October 2021. Kathy Toro told WFLA her 15-year-old nephew and another student were allegedly bitten by Rice, who was working there as a teacher, after she attempted to take a jar of...

If you’ve ever put away a serving of house-fermented vegetables at a fancy restaurant or had a roommate taking up your counter space with a crock of slowly bubbling sauerkraut, it’s likely you have Sandor Katz to thank. The self-styled “fermentation revivalist” has become a globe-trotting mascot for the power of bacteria and yeast to create delicious food, a kind of modern-day Johnny Appleseed of tangy, savory flavors. Katz discovered fermented foods in the early 1990s when, after receiving an H.I.V. diagnosis, he moved from his hometown of New York City to a queer community in rural Tennessee, where preserving...

For as long as I can remember, even when I was very small, I have always loved pickles. Quick pickles, lacto pickles, sour pickles, sweet pickles, fried pickles—all are good in my eyes (and mouth). I love drinking pickle brine. I also appreciate pickle innovation—grilled pickles are a recent discovery that morphed into an obsession, and I’ve never been afraid of trying “out there” pickle pairings and presentations. This is all to say that I was not alarmed, not even a little bit, when I saw the clever woman you see in the above video add a packet of ranch...

We love pickles, here - Husband loves dill pickles, I like sweet pickles, we buy lots of Giardiniera for making Panzanella; and lots of Kimchi. But except for a few attempts at Kimchi, I've never made my own pickles. The most recent Gardening Newsletter from Lee Valley included a great idea for adding some 'zing' to store-bought Bread and Butter pickles - and a nice basic recipe for the pickles themselves: http://www.leevalley.com/archive/en/newsletters/gardening/2533/article3.htm(We always add a few dried peppers to our 'pickled' Brussels Sprouts - but that recipe hasn't seemed to be very popular here. It appears that many people...

It’s been very humid and muggy here the last few days, and I’ve wanted fresh, crisp, and cold things to eat and drink. This week’s newsletter from Lee Valley features a kicked–up Bread-and-Butter Pickle: http://www.leevalley.com/us/newsletters/Gardening/2534/Article3.htmI’ve been looking through ‘Square Meals’, a delightful book by Jane and Michael Stern which is, as the preface states, "about the friendly foods of childhood and the bygone dishes that were, not so long ago, in the repertoire of every homemaker". It's a fun book, full of vintage/retro recipes, photos and drawings; and a lot of commentary on the food habits of decades past. In...

Dolly Kyle on legacy of twice-failed Dem candidate Her rise to power was once seen as inevitable, her victory in the run for the presidency a foregone conclusion. Yet today, Hillary Clinton is nothing but a source of anger, embarrassment and frustration for many Democrats who blame the former first lady for wasting enormous sums of money on an incompetent 2016 presidential campaign. It was, after all, the second time she’s tried and come up short. Yet to hear her, it was not her fault; it was sexism, the Russians and even the Democratic Party’s national leadership. One observer who...

If she was looking for a quiet night on the town, she must have been wildly disappointed. Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation as she and former President Bill Clinton made their way to their seats for a performance of the Tony Award-winning play “Oslo” in New York City on Sunday night. The former secretary of state and presidential candidate was quietly walking down the aisle when audience members caught sight of her and broke out into applause and cheers. “We love you, Hillary!” several people were heard shouting as others began chanting her first name.

Former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said it would be “really stupid” for President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. participation in the Paris agreement on climate change. As part of a wide-ranging talk about the 2016 campaign, Clinton said a withdrawal from the Paris accord would be “a breach of an agreement” that would cede U.S. leadership on fighting global warming. “You stand with your prior administration whether it was of your party or not,” Clinton said at a tech conference in southern California, also saying it would be “totally incomprehensible” and “incredibly foolish” to withdraw from...

Contemplating life after devastating loss to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton said that she would like to be buried with copies of all the newspapers that endorsed her. “I want to be buried with my editorial endorsements,” Clinton said in an interview with New York Times Magazine. “I want an open casket and they can all be piled on top of me. You won’t even be able to see my body.”

The Clinton campaign is postponing a fundraiser in North Carolina for unexplained reasons, while Hillary Clinton remains absent from the campaign trail. Hillary Clinton postponed a lunch fundraiser in Chapel Hill with some of the state’s wealthiest and most prominent Democrats. No reason was given for postponement of the Clinton event, according to CBS North Carolina. It was expected to take place at the home of Betty Craven and Michael Warner. The event was billed as “lunch with Hillary Rodham Clinton” and costs ranged from $2,700 to $100,000.

Hillary Clinton used her response to a New York City bombing Saturday night to take a swipe at Donald Trump, but critics wondered if she brought more attention to her own problems with the brief exchange. A sedate-sounding Clinton looked like she was going to pass out, according to political commenter Mark Dice and others on social media. “I’ve been briefed about the bombings in New York and New Jersey and the attack in Minnesota. Obviously we need to do everything we can to support our first responders,” She told the media pool travelling with her. “I’ll have more to...

Dmocratic candidate Hillary Clinton has again cancelled an event in California as a result of her health and the campaign is claiming she is being treated for pneumonia. The cancelation marks the third day–following Monday and Tuesday of last week–that the candidate’s health has pulled her from the campaign trail. Questions surrounding her health ramped up after she collapsed at the 15th memorial service for the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

CNN covered for Hillary Clinton when it severely edited a statement made by the former secretary of state in response to an explosion that rocked a Manhattan Chelsea neighborhood Saturday night. In her actual statement, the Democratic presidential nominee called the explosion a “bombing,” while at the same time chastising Donald Trump for calling it the same. Oops. Here’s Clinton’s full statement, as reported by ABC News’ Liz Kreutz:

Hillary's pneumonia could end up sickening her entire presidential bid, politicos are warning. Clinton's forced disclosure of her diagnosis after a fainting episode on Sept. 11 not only reinforced fears of her campaign's secrecy and dishonesty, but it also came at the exact same time Donald Trump suddenly decided to run a more traditional campaign. And if voter attitudes continue to change as quickly as they already have, according to polls, the Clinton camp could be facing a negative prognosis. "There can be little doubt that the presidential race has not only tightened, but there are indications that Donald Trump...

There’s something very odd about the diagnosis that Dr. Lisa Bardack has presented for her patient Secretary Hillary Clinton, it’s doesn’t exist. As you can see from the two-page letter presented today by Hillary Clinton’s doctor, she has been diagnosed with “mild non-contagious bacterial pneumonia“. However, there’s a problem…. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD), an ObamaCare standard, is designed code all medical diagnostics. According to ICD-9 codes, and the more current ICD-10 coding, there’s no such diagnosis as “non contagious bacterial pneumonia“. Dr. Bardack apparently made it up. Dr. Milton Wolf was the first to notice the issue:
