Watching the Palestinian television broadcasts on Alan Keyes and Hannity & Colmes last week documenting the Palestinians' indoctrination of their children in the glories of death, murder, and martyrdom, I was reminded of the first time a death-obsessed culture went up against the Jewish people. The tale is recounted in Exodus - the Pharoh is envious of the economic might and talent of the descendants of Abraham living in his kingdom, and so he enslaves them, and a later pharoh attempts to destroy their culture and their ethnic distinctiveness by wiping out infant males. What became of the death-obsessed ancient...

Merchants training to spot meth purchases.... The attorney general's office is holding a series of workshops. The first one is in Bismarck today. It's meant to train store clerks to spot unusual purchases in their stores. It's possible to make meth out of ordinary items that can be bought in drug stores or supermarkets. One way is to buy a lot of cold medicine and use the medicine to cook a batch of meth. Stenehjem says the training will alert store workers about what signs to look for, and he says they can be told how to gather information...

The US Justice Department has charged three former British bankers with wire fraud in an alleged £5 million scheme involving Enron. The three former employees of National Westminster Bank - Gary Mulgrew, Giles Darby and David John Bermingham - have been charged in a criminal complaint filed in Houston. The complaint, filed by the Justice Department's Enron taskforce, alleges that the former bank officers secretly invested in an Enron entity, Southampton LP, through a series of financial transactions. Washington and Sarajevo case study - 1 By Sam Vaknin UPI Senior Business Correspondent From the Business & Economics Desk Published 6/12/2002 12:40 PM SKOPJE, Macedonia, June 12 (UPI) -- The international community has poured well over $5 billion into Bosnia-Herzegovina since the Dayton Accords were signed on November 21, 1995. The World Bank accounts for one-fifth of this inordinate amount. This is more than $1,000 for every citizen. What do donors and creditors have to show for it? The internecine war lasted three years, from 1992 to 1995. It displaced more than one-quarter of the population. Of 4.4 million...

If I can say just one thing to the folks from FR and FD who’ve rushed to our aid it would be: thanks. The pseudo-intellectual gangsters at GU had hoped to have strangled us by now. They were up for a quick mob attack, break a few cyber-windows and a bit of virtual lynching. They didn’t expect us to stand our ground, they didn’t expect to be stopped dead and they certainly didn’t expect to find the forces of the New World rolling over the hill. If our moderators did a fabulous job of breaking up the incoming attacks (and...

DENVER -- The U.S. Forest Service employee accused of starting the largest wildfire in Colorado history was released Thursday on $600,000 bail. As a condition of her release, Terry Barton, 38, will be required to stay at a halfway house and get mental health counseling. She is also not allowed to leave the state or enter a forest. At a hearing, Barton quietly answered "yes" when asked if she understood the agreement. Barton has pleaded innocent to four federal charges, including arson, for allegedly starting a 137,000-acre blaze that has destroyed at least 133 homes and cost more than...

JERUSALEM, Jun 27, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Israeli helicopters fired missiles Thursday at wanted men holed up in a fortress-like Palestinian Authority compound in the West Bank city of Hebron, as Palestinian officials fumed at a string of threats and condemnations from President Bush. Palestinians called Bush's threat to deny future aid and his unwillingness to rule out military action against Yasser Arafat rash and dangerous. Holding up funds will jeopardize the reforms Bush demands, they said. "Delaying aid from the international community would also delay the reforms that we already have started within most of our...

The crowd began gathering at approximately 11:30 a.m. (Eastern) and grew steadily until just before noon when an unidentified person shouted, "Join me now in the Pledge of Allegiance." Jamie Hosek of Clutier, Iowa, said that, as a Christian, she felt the need to show her support for the phrase "under...

Miss Cleo repeatedly invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination on Wednesday as government lawyers asked her about a birth certificate that indicates she was born in Los Angeles to American parents and threatens to shatter her image as a mystical Jamaican. She also hinted that her signature accent that was in place Wednesday might be adopted. After months of resisting requests from the state Attorney General’s Office to be interviewed, Miss Cleo, aka Youree Harris of Southwest Ranches, in Broward County, fielded questions for more than two hours. The state lawyers were joined by an attorney for her co-defendant...

Falun Gong's New Campaign Sparks Beijing's Old Fears 27 June 2002 Summary Members of the Falun Gong spiritual group have hacked into Chinese TV broadcasts in six different cities over the past six months. This tactic attempts to counter the government's anti-Falun Gong propaganda, and it may signal the start of a new phase in the battle between the group and the government -- one that could pose a bigger threat to the Communist Party if the country's urban unemployed rise up in support of the group.
