President Joe Biden said Thursday that record gas prices were caused by the pandemic and Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine as he unveiled a two-pronged plan to increase supply and reduce demand. He announced he would release a million barrels of oil per day from the nation's strategic reserve for the next six months and accelerate the switch to electric vehicle. But his analysis of the cause of the crisis will attract criticism for opponents who accuse him of shifting the blame for his administration's economic woes. 'The problem we're facing with gas prices has two roots,' Biden told reporters...

On Thursday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that the agency would allow businesses to import 35,000 more foreign H-2B visa workers to fill non-agricultural jobs in construction, hospitality, and landscaping from April 1 to September 30.

The Biden Administration’s Department of Education (DOE) is set to impose new Title IX regulations in the coming weeks that will extend federal civil rights to so-called “transgender” students. The Daily Caller reports that at least two anonymous DOE officials told the Washington Post about the planned expansion of Title IX, which currently only prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender. The new regulations will redefine Title IX to include “gender identity” and sexual preference. A DOE spokesperson said that the newly-updated guidelines will be formally published in April.

Studies on the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines found that they do not effectively stop the transmission of the disease, bringing into question the necessity of mandating them. Epidemiologist Paul Alexander recently published a round-up of some of the newest evidence that calls into question the safety and efficacy of COVID shots. Among the studies that he summarized was one from Israel that showed vaccinated individuals who have never been previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 had a 13-fold increased risk of getting infected with the delta variant compared to those who have been unvaccinated but have been previously infected, showing that natural...

When mice with atopic dermatitis—a common type of allergic skin inflammation—are treated with drugs that target the immune system, their thickened, itchy skin generally heals quickly. But scientists have now discovered that the same treatment in obese mice makes their skin worse instead. That is because obesity changes the molecular underpinnings of allergic inflammation, both in mice and humans. The researchers suspected that dysfunction in a protein called PPAR-gamma might be mediating the link between obesity and inflammation. In 1995, Evans and his team discovered that PPAR-gamma was a master regulator of fat cells and a target of an approved...

Eight months into his recovery after being struck by a car while biking, Ben Bollinger of Vancouver, Canada received a surprise bill for $3,752.01. The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) was asking him to recoup the damages caused to the vehicle that hit him, Global News reports. Bollinger told Global News that he was riding on a bike path when a vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with him. He said that he flew 14 meters, or about 46 feet, after being struck and was hospitalized with a broken hand and foot. But the ICBC claimed that he...

Fourth Week of Lent John 5:31-47 Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus declares the source of his authoritative behavior. Notably, the first hearers of Jesus were astonished by the authority of his speech. This wasn’t simply because he spoke with conviction and enthusiasm; it was because he refused to play the game that every other rabbi played, tracing his authority finally back to Moses. He went, as it were, over the head of Moses. His listeners knew they were dealing with something qualitatively different than anything else in their religious tradition or experience. They were dealing with the prophet greater than...

A budding burger chain in Russia called “Uncle Vanya” is looking to grab business that has been left on the table by McDonald’s — revealing a logo that looks strikingly similar to the “Golden Arches.” A March 12 trademark filing with the Russian government showed an image that closely resembles the McDonald’s logo turned on its side. The sketchy filing shows a Cyrillic letter “B,” which references the “V” in “Uncle Vanya,” cast in yellow against a red background. “Trademark squatting has begun in Russia,” tweeted Josh Gerben, a prominent intellectual property attorney who was among those who flagged the...

On March 31, the Russian President signed the decree stipulating acceptance of payments for gas in rubles. If gas buyers from unfriendly states refuse to pay for gas in rubles, Russia will view it as breach of contract, President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting on the situation in the aviation sector."If such [ruble] payments are not made, we will consider this to be the buyers’ failure to perform commitments with all ensuing implications," Putin said.

The Ministry of National Defense has set up a working group to study the tactics of the war in Ukraine, including how Ukraine has been able to hold out against Russia, and has been discussing its analysis with the US, Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng (邱國正) said yesterday. Taiwan has raised its alert level since the Russian invasion, wary of Beijing possibly making a similar move on Taiwan, although it has reported no signs that this is about to happen. The potential impact of the Ukraine war on China’s military thinking, and how China could attack Taiwan, has been...

You have to hand it to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). She somehow seems to know exactly the wrong thing to say at any given point. She has a long history of controversial comments, perhaps most infamously when she encouraged people to get up in the face of Trump officials and “push back.”But she stepped in it, big time, recently in an encounter with homeless people in Los Angeles. Then she made it even worse with an attempt to cover up her response. The nonprofit advocacy group Fathers and Mothers Who Care was holding an event in South Los Angeles which...

Nuremberg, 1947In the 1930s, German medicine and German healthcare institutions were widely considered the most advanced in the world. However, subtle but enormously consequential shifts had been underway decades before Hitler came to power, starting with the rise of the eugenics movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1922, Alfred Hoche and Karl Binding, a psychiatrist and a lawyer, published an influential book, Allowing the Destruction of Life Unworthy of Life. A metaphor from this and other influential works captured the imagination of the German medical establishment, undermining the traditional Hippocratic ethic that had governed medicine since...

The all female delegation spoke to reporters on Wednesday at the Ukrainian Embassy, where they laid out a list of what they need in terms of military equipment. Their list includes proper air defense systems and fighter jets. They went on to justify their list by saying that it’s the only way for the conflict in their country to end while referencing the city of Mariupol, which has been besieged by the Russian military.

An international team of scientists has found that soy molasses and kudzu roots contain isoflavonoids with high antioxidant and cytotoxic activity. This means they can help fight cancer, especially when chemotherapy or surgery to remove metastases may be dangerous. A description of the study is published in the journal Plants. The isoflavonoids in soy molasses and kudzu roots are phytoestrogens that mimic the action of the human hormone estrogen. They help to bind and remove from the body free radicals, which cause cell damage and disrupt immune system functions. This, in turn, leads to various diseases, including the formation of...

Since the Deep State is obviously about to kick Biden out, and since Harris is unfit to serve, it's time for discussion of one of my favorite parts of the Constitution - Amendment XXII. This rushed Amendment, hastily drafted after the death of FDR, prevents a person who has served two terms as POTUS from BEING ELECTED again. Please read it for yourselves if you doubt this. It does NOT amend or alter Article II and Amendment XII as regards eligibility to BE President - it just prevents a former President from getting back in office BY BEING ELECTED. So-...

My grandmother made a wonderful navy bean soup, and my husband makes a good one, too. Beyond those - besides a very good canned black bean soup that Goya makes - I don’t have a lot of experience with beans. But I’ve recently discovered heirloom beans, and want to broaden my bean horizons. They are supposed to be far superior to the mass-produced beans available in supermarkets, and two companies that offer many varieties are Zursun Beans in Idaho: https://www.zursunbeans.com/And Rancho Gordo in California: https://www.ranchogordo.com/I’m especially interested in the various Black Lentils offered, and the French Flageolets; and I found...
