Supply chain problems are reaching into a far corner of the business universe: Ketchup packets. After enduring a year of closures, employee safety fears and start-stop openings, many American restaurants are now facing a nationwide ketchup shortage. Restaurants are trying to secure the tabletop staple after Covid-19 upended the condiment world order. Managers are using generic versions, pouring out bulk ketchup into individual cups and hitting the aisles of Costco for substitutes. “We’ve been hunting high and low,” said Chris Fuselier, owner of Denver-based Blake Street Tavern, who has struggled to keep ketchup in stock for much of this year....

A person falling into a black hole and being stretched while approaching the black hole’s horizon. Credit: Leo Rodriguez and Shanshan Rodriguez, CC BY-ND =================================================================== To solve the mysteries of black holes, a human should just venture into one. However, there is a rather complicated catch: A human can do this only if the respective black hole is supermassive and isolated, and if the person entering the black hole does not expect to report the findings to anyone in the entire universe. We are both physicists who study black holes, albeit from a very safe distance. Black holes are among...

The Arkansas Senate voted to permanently block the state's governor from ever imposing another mask mandate. The bill now moves to the state's House of Representatives. The measure was approved by the Senate on Wednesday, one day after Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson allowed the statewide mask mandate to expire after it was initially put in place in July 2020. Hutchinson said it was unlikely he'd reimpose the mandate, but he did not rule it out. To make sure a government-mandated mask edict can never be imposed again, the Senate voted 20-9 to ban all mandatory face-covering requirements, citing the undue...

Stephanie Nana, an evangelical Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma, refused to get a COVID-19 vaccine because it contains “aborted cell tissue.” Nathan French, who leads a nondenominational ministry in Tacoma, Washington, said he received a divine message that God was the ultimate healer and deliverer: “The vaccine is not the savior.” Lauri Armstrong, a Bible-believing nutritionist outside of Dallas, said she did not need the vaccine because God designed the body to heal itself, if given the right nutrients. More than that, she said, “It would be God’s will if I am here or if I am not here.” The deeply...

Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., died Tuesday after a more than two-year bout with pancreatic cancer, NBC News confirmed. Hastings, who served in the House for nearly three decades, was 84. Throughout his career, he held several key committee assignments and leadership positions, most recently as vice chairman of the Rules Committee. After the congressman’s death, Democrats hold a narrow 218-211 advantage in the House, giving the party a small margin for error in passing legislation. Six seats are vacant. Hastings, a former federal district court judge, was impeached in 1988 amid accusations of bribery and perjury. The Senate voted to...

On the surface of recent polls, Christianity may seem alive and well in the United States. They say around 65% of Americans identify as Christians. Israel’s political structure is a mystery to most Americans. They vote for parties instead of candidates. Thirteen parties received enough votes in last month’s elections to earn seats in the Knesset. A coalition must be formed with over 50% of Knesset Members backing a Prime Minister. The President is not like our President and has very little power other than helping to form the government. And these are just a few of the things that differ from our own electoral process. With that in mind, it’s understandable that supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including me, are not excited that...

State Rep. Evan Jenne, co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus said comparable action could hit Florida if the state Legislature adopts Republican-sponsored reforms moving in the House and the Senate to restrict access to mail-in ballots, outlaw distribution of water to voters standing in line, and limit or eliminate use of ballot drop boxes. “It looks very similar to what took place in Georgia,” Jenne said. “Major League Baseball made a huge decision moving their All Star Game out of Georgia. … I do think there would be some ramifications.” Critics including the League of Women Voters of Florida say...

After looking into ALL the numbers offered by the official CDC website on COVID, I became even more convinced that we are being scammed over something that is no worse than a common flu. The graph above is what I put together for a quick view at the truth. As you look over the numbers I present, you must also look back at the way this so-called pandemic has been blown out of proportion. To start with, all flus are dangerous. For those at risk. Which are the most vulnerable of our population. However, for 99% of Americans, a flu is...

Major League Baseball announced that they are moving the 2021 All-Star Game out of Georgia in protest of the state's new voting laws — and it now it is reportedly headed to Colorado, which has some rules that are similar, if not more restrictive. The Associated Press reported Tuesday that the MLB will relocate the game to Denver’s Coors Field after pulling it from Atlanta over Georgia voting laws. In response, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp addressed the situation, comparing the two states' procedures, saying he is baffled by the decision. "Georgia has 17 days of in-person early voting including two...

State Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) is sponsoring legislation (SB245) that would make all abortions free in the State of California. In addition to using taxpayer funds to finance abortion-on-demand, her bill would also require all private insurance plans to cover abortions with no co-pays and no deductibles. "This legislation is needed both to protect the health of women and to reduce the frequency of child abuse," Gonzalez said. "No woman should be forced to give birth to an unwanted child. The government has an obligation to prevent these tragedies. By guaranteeing that every woman can get rid of her...

Getty and the city of Los Angeles are expected to announce Tuesday the launch of the African American Historic Places Project, a three-year initiative to identify and preserve landmarks that represent Black heritage across L.A. The project will address a disparity in local landmark designations: Only about 3% are connected to African American heritage. The goal is to more accurately reflect the history of the city. The Office of Historic Resources knows that its landmark designation programs do not yet reflect "the diversity and richness of the African American experience in Los Angeles,” said Ken Bernstein, principal city planner ....

We are fully prepared to issue a correction and an apology for speculating about an incident at the University of San Francisco if our speculation is proven wrong. But we have a feeling it won't be. ------------------------------------------------------------ News of racism at a major California university that involves a hanging noose near students is certain to draw attention from the usual social justice ambulance chasers as well as the breathless mainstream media. Except… it didn’t. Reports from last week of a noose hanging from a dorm at the University of San Francisco has yielded zero attention from any of the usual...

Bernie Moreno, the luxury car dealer, blockchain evangelist and erstwhile member of the MetroHealth Board of Trustees, has formally announced his bid to claim Rob Portman's seat in the United States Senate. Moreno, 54, is a Republican and first-time candidate who intends to run as an outsider and successful businessman in the mold of Donald Trump. In a campaign video Tuesday, Moreno said that no candidate would fight harder against the rising tide of socialism in the U.S., as personified, in his conception, by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, squad members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, and universities like Oberlin that...
