Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., died Tuesday after a more than two-year bout with pancreatic cancer, NBC News confirmed.
Hastings, who served in the House for nearly three decades, was 84. Throughout his career, he held several key committee assignments and leadership positions, most recently as vice chairman of the Rules Committee.
After the congressman’s death, Democrats hold a narrow 218-211 advantage in the House, giving the party a small margin for error in passing legislation. Six seats are vacant.
Hastings, a former federal district court judge, was impeached in 1988 amid accusations of bribery and perjury. The Senate voted to remove him from the bench the next year, but did not vote to disqualify him from holding future office.

And a 50-50 Senate.
Democrats hold power by a mere thread.
“ If you can’t say something good about someone...”
Come sit next to me.
For more commentary on this:
Biden: “Alcee you in hell”.
Marion Berry was better.
Nothing more need be added.
He now sits in front of an unbiased Judge, with no appeal possible for his hatred, his crimes, his racism and his hypocrisy. And the democrats in his District do not get a vote.
I wonder how much time FL can take before it schedules a special election. It would be nice if they can push it back to the fall. It’s not a lot, but every little bit would help right now.
Satan will be welcoming an old friend.
>>If you can’t say something good about someone...
Hastings made the world a better place by the leaving of it.
Good news coming out of Florida Rat and thief is finally gone. Bye
Ted and John have put out an extra folding chair...
BTW, I thought when you were impeached and convicted, you were forever barred from holding any office of the United States (which of course is why they so desperately wanted Trump impeached post-tenure)?
Shouldn’t the House refused to seat him? Or, did he resign from the bench before he could actually be convicted in the Senate?
Alcee Hastings is the ultimat3e example of DOUBLE STANDARDS.
He was IMPEACHED and REMOVED for corruption and bribery as a judge, YET, he was allowed to run and become a Congressman.
Yet, they wanted to impeach and declare Trump guilty even AFTER he already left so that he would not be eligible to run again.
We need to cut that thread.
I have nothing good to say, but I have having a party at my place this evening to celebrate.
By the way, wasn’t he IMPEACHED and removed from the judiciary?
You, Sir....have just won the internet.
