  • CNN Shut Down the Town Hall Early . . . Mercy Rule?

CNN likely had more viewers of their town hall event with President Donald Trump Wednesday night than most of their regular shows combined. It was the first time I’d watched more than a clip from the network in years. Knowing the advertising boom this brought for them, it was odd that they cut off the interview over 20-minutes longer than they had allotted. Congressman Matt Gaetz has a theory: Did CNN cut it short because Trump was doing SO WELL? I’ve never seen a Town Hall get called like a “Mercy Rule” before. Did that really happen? On March 9th Matt Taibbi testified before the House Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. At the same time, he was testifying before the committee the IRS paid a visit to his house–an almost unheard-of tactic used by the agency. Usually, they use the mail. The weaponization of Government? Not a thing, we are told. And if you disagree the IRS will remind you of that fact, forcefully and in person.John did a write-up yesterday that lays out the facts, although I admit to being more cynical than he. I need to get a few beers or bourbons in...

Matt Taibbi provides more disturbing evidence of how extensive the government’s desire and the outlets’ cooperation were to kill accurate information. Matt Taibbi has just posted the latest batch of internal messages from the social media giant: The Twitter Files #19. This latest release comes just after he and Michael Shellenberger made an appearance before a House Committee regarding the activities at Twitter, and the contentious attitudes and belittling of these reporters by certain House members on March 9 are made even clearer as a result. ... These latest revelations lay out cleanly the organized effort that took place to...

Matt Taibbi, who authored the first release of the infamous “Twitter Files,” is back for round two. Or at least he’s back to provide a supplement to round one while round two is still being worked on. According to Taibbi, James Baker, who was general counsel for Twitter and a former top-level FBI official, inserted himself into the disclosure in an attempt to “vet” the files that were ultimately released. Elon Musk was not notified of Baker playing middle-man. As RedState reported, Baker was fired on Tuesday, and with Taibbi’s latest thread, we now know why. I normally try to...

Freshman Representative Moira Walsh (D- Providence) joined Matt Allen on WPRO to talk about a wide range of issues - including minimum wage and women's issues. It was a comment at the end of the hour long interview, however, that has garnered attention. When asked by Allen what she found most surprising at the State House, Walsh said, "The drinking. It is the drinking that blows my mind. You can not operate a motor vehicle when you've had two beers but you can make laws that effect people's lives forever when you're half in the bag? That's outrageous!" [Audio player]

A report that looks at where online news readers go for their daily scoops shows Matt Drudge, who operates the popular headline aggregation site that's a must-read for many of both political camps, is gaining big on massive media organizations like NBC and even CNN. The latter, specifically, might want to take notice. CNN has spent the last few years loudly proclaiming its dominance in the news market, even as competitors like Fox News - and now, Drudge - have gained steam. MediaPost, in its "10 Publishers Account for Half of All Online News," cited SimilarWeb and found "the top...

MALONE, N.Y. — David Sweat, the surviving prison escapee on the run in northern New York for three weeks, was shot by a state trooper on Sunday, according to the authorities. Mr. Sweat, 35, was alive and in custody, Sheriff David Favro of Clinton County said. He was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. His condition was not immediately available. The shooting occurred after Sgt. Jay Cook of the State Police saw a suspicious man walking down a roadway in the Town of Constable, accordin to the state police. The sergeant ordered Mr. Sweat to stop, but he...

Rep. Ted Poe has conferred upon Rep. Matt Salmon one of the highest honors his office can help provide: He’s made his fellow Republican lawmaker an honorary Texan. The Texas Republican said Salmon, who serves alongside him on the Foreign Affairs Committee — “We’re personal friends,” Poe said — shares several defining characteristics with native-born Texans: He values independence. He’s fairly outspoken. And he displays that certain ruggedness required of those who reside in border states.

As a Member of Congress from a state on our southern border, I see firsthand the realities of illegal immigration. In fact, much of the recent public outcry originated from busloads of illegal immigrants dumped in Arizona a few short months ago. The strain placed on state and local governments overwhelms security, education, and medical services, making them harder to come by for citizens and immigrants alike. We’ve all read the stories of blown budgets and rising crime, but Members of Congress who come from border states don’t need to read those stories. (SNIP) Doing nothing is not an option....

U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon disappoints in new role as McMachine’s mouthpiece Elected to the U.S. House in 1994, as part of the first GOP majority in forty years, Rep. Matt Salmon seemed to understand the danger of open borders and amnesty. To his credit, at the time, he voted against the sundry legislative initiatives that sought to blur the borders between the United States and Mexico. He voluntarily term-limited himself, and left Congress after six years of service — a practice his successor, the perpetually smirking and self photographing Jeff Flake pledged to observe —- only to arrogantly joke at...

Fracking fans have a new target: Matt Damon. “Promised Land,” the new Gus Van Sant film about the controversial technique that acquires natural gas through drilling and pressurized fluid, stars and was written by Damon and costar John Krasinski, opens nationally Friday. Phelim McAleer is launching a one-man campaign to call Damon out about the film. McAleer directed the documentary FrackNation, along with his wife Ann McElhinney, and the film paints a more sympathetic portrayal of fracking and aims to dispel some of the misinformation that McAleer and McElhinney believe have dominated the debate over the procedure’s environmental and health...

Firstly, teachers ARE well paid: $34.06 an Hour ~ That’s how much the average public school teachers makes. Is that “underpaid”? Who, on average, is better paid–public school teachers or architects? How about teachers or economists? You might be surprised to learn that public school teachers are better paid than these and many other professionals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, public school teachers earned $34.06 per hour in 2005, 36% more than the hourly wage of the average white-collar worker and 11% more than the average professional specialty or technical worker. 1) U.S. military service disproportionately attracts enlisted personnel and officerswho do not come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Previous Heritage Foundation research demonstrated that the quality of enlisted troops has increased since the start of the Iraq war. This report demonstrates that the same is true of the officer corps. 2) Members of the all-volunteer military are significantly more likely to come from high-income neighborhoods than from low-income neighborhoods. Only 11 percent of enlisted recruits in 2007 came from the poorest one-fifth (quintile) of neighborhoods, while 25 percent came from the wealthiest quintile. These trends are even more pronounced in the Army...

Journalism can reinvent itself without government 'help' The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking ways to "reinvent" journalism, and that's a cause for concern. According to a May 28 draft proposal, the agency thinks government should be at the center of a media overhaul. The bureaucracy sees it as a problem that the Internet has introduced a wealth of information options to consumers, forcing media companies to adapt and experiment to meet changing market needs. FTC's policy staff fears this new reality. "There are reasons for concern that experimentation may not produce a robust and sustainable business model for commercial...

The financial-services industry has reportedly flooded the Capitol with more than 2,000 paid lobbyists; even veteran members are stunned by the intensity of the blitz. The companies with the most at stake are particularly well-connected. The lobbying campaign for Goldman Sachs, for instance, is being headed up by a former top staffer for Rep. Barney Frank, Michael Paese, who is coordinating some 14 different lobbying firms to fight on Goldman's behalf. The bank is also represented by Capitol Hill heavyweights like former House majority leader Dick Gephardt and former Reagan chief of staff Ken Duberstein. All told, there are at...
