Outgoing Florida Governor and former 2024 presidential contender Ron DeSantis has taken a swipe at Donald Trump after the Republican defeat in the midterm elections.
DeSantis called it 'close to an extinction-level event for Republicans in many parts of the country' and singled out the Democratic wins in the Texas governor and Senate races in what he called 'the crown jewel of Republican politics.'
'Let's just be clear, that is going to hurt, not just for the next two years, that's something that can reverberate for the next decade or more,' he said at a press conference in Tallahassee on Wednesday.
'And if the Republican Party doesn't have Texas as an anchor, then we are not going to be viable nationally going forward.'
DeSantis had already turned on the administration before the results came in, warning in a podcast interview that Republicans who refused to admit the Iran war had driven up gas prices were 'gaslighting' voters.
'Gas is higher. It hurts working-class people, and it's higher because of this conflict. That's just a fact. If you can't admit that to voters, then you're gaslighting them, and they're not gonna listen to you on other things,' DeSantis told Stephen A. Smith.
He branded the war a 'big drag' on the party and said that had it been wrapped up as quickly as the Venezuela operation 'it probably wouldn't have been an issue.'
'[Trump] obviously ran saying he wasn't going to do a Middle East war. They did. So we have some of our voters who've checked out because they're like, 'I didn't want any more Middle East wars, and now we're doing it,' he said.
He also warned that a war dragging on for the rest of Trump's term would undermine the president's ability to govern ....

DeSantis 2028
It is painfully obvious that we do NOT need the party of the Bush family for any purpose at all. Elon proposed a new party and was put down for saying it. I think it’s time for a new conservative party now.
A great additional reason to not vote for Desantis
What has DeSantis said above that isn't true?
Just lost my vote. Next.
Amen.
A decade ago, Marco Rubio warned us that electing Trump would destroy the Republican party.
It seems Marco was correct.
If someone has to spell it out, you likely wouldn’t believe it anyway.
He’s right about the war that they should have finished it when they had the chance, wipe the iranian regime out when they had the chance, when Iran was literally on the ropes, instead Trump stopped in April, gave Iran a big win by just waking up one day and deciding he doesnt want to play anymore..I dont know what happened, not enough ammunition, who knows, we never did find out and I still wonder why..and I wonder why Trump didnt want certain regime members killed, hey here’s an idea, KILL THEM ALL no one in that regime was worth keeping alive. NO ONE likes war, NO ONE, but if you are going to start a war, you finish it, even those who were against war would have said “WOW look how we took out the regime it was worth it for the iranian people to live in peace” but we didnt, we quit at the freakin 30 yard line
I watched that message. I took it as an offer to be chairman of RNC. He would be great at that. He rebuilt the Florida party into one of the strongest state GOPs in the country. He could do it with the RNC but it has to start immediately to avoid another massacre in 24 months.
But is he wrong?
Republicans destroyed the Republican party
Trump beat the commie asses in 2024, now the same people who elected him want him gone..seriously, fine have communism for the next 50 yrs enjoy
Go away Ron. You’ll not get my vote. You got the State Legislature to exempt you from losing your office when you ran for President the last time, and you also got them to change the Sunshine Laws, so that your whereabouts, the people you met with, etc., would be kept from the people of Florida. You got rid of the transparency of your office.
You might as well ask if he learned anything when he ran for President...
A lot has changed since then.
> DeSantis called it ‘close to an extinction-level event for Republicans in many parts of the country’ <
He’s not wrong. R states turn D. California is a good example of that. And yesterday we saw more R going D. But the reverse rarely happens. That’s the really scary part.
We need another Ronald Reagan. Is that DeSantis? I don’t know.
I wanted DeSantis 2024.
