A leader in the ongoing effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom said they have amassed the 1.5 million signatures needed to qualify for a statewide vote.In a tweet late Wednesday, Thomas del Beccaro, a chair of the recall effort, revealed that their petition had collected “over” the 1.5 million signatures necessary, but that their work to get the matter on the ballot was far from over.“To ensure qualification we need 1.9 million [signatures],” Beccaro wrote on the social media platform, as many signatures could be found to be ineligible and removed. In the past year, he has seen his approval...

A pileup just north of downtown Fort Worth has been deemed a “mass casualty event” by officials early Thursday morning. The major crash was first reported around roughly 6 a.m., and the highway remains closed in that area as officials work to clear the scene. At least five people have died in the pileup, according to the Associated Press. Up to 100 cars were involved in the crashes. Police said dozens were hospitalized for treatment. Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl said authorities were going to each vehicle to assess medical needs after the “mass casualty incident” involving tractor-trailers...

As Germans shiver through double-digit negative temperatures and more than 80 centimeters (30 inches) of snow in parts of the country, climate science deniers have taken to social media to argue that global warming is a hoax. Their claim — which has been repeatedly debunked by climate scientists — is that extremely cold weather shows that carbon dioxide emissions are not warming the Earth. In fact, the effects of global warming may even have favored the extremely cold temperature. The past week’s sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfalls are more than just a cold winter. They are made more likely by...

Georgia's newly minted Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock is under investigation for voter registration fraud which allegedly took place during his work with far-left activist Stacey Abrams. Forbes has the story: The Georgia State Election Board voted unanimously Wednesday to move forward with an investigation of U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) for his role serving as board chairman of a voter registration organization founded by Stacey Abrams that election officials say failed to follow deadlines, in what appears to be the latest legal step in the ongoing feud between the progressive Abrams and the state's Republican election officials. Warnock served as...

Scientists were expecting to find an intermediate-mass black hole at the heart of the globular cluster NGC 6397, but instead they found evidence of a concentration of smaller black holes lurking there. New data from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have led to the first measurement of the extent of a collection of black holes in a core-collapsed globular cluster. Globular clusters are extremely dense stellar systems, in which stars are packed closely together. They are also typically very old — the globular cluster that is the focus of this study, NGC 6397, is almost as old as the Universe...

Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maxentius, more commonly known as simply Maxentius, ruled in Rome as a usurper from AD 306 until AD 312. His reign came to an abrupt end when he drowned in the Tiber after being defeated at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge by Constantine the Great. As usurpers go, Maxentius had some impressive familial connections. He was the son of the emperor Maximian Herculius, who was raised to the status of co-Augustus by Diocletian in AD 286. He was also the son-in-law of the emperor Galerius, whom Diocletian would create Caesar in AD 293 and name as...

In the simplest terms, obesity is the product of a body's energy output being less than its energy input. But in reality, there's nothing simple about this complex and mysterious disease. Obesity, which has skyrocketed in recent decades – now defining the body mass of over 40 percent of adult Americans – isn't just difficult for people to endure and scientists to understand. It's also incredibly hard to treat. Beyond commitment to sustained lifestyle changes – healthy eating and exercise, effectively – there are really only two potential options that may help: bariatric surgery and weight-loss medications. The former is...

(Translation) Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González said that the proposed increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour could “kill” local production. “At the congressional level, the President (Joseph Biden) has talked about supporting amendments to the federal minimum wage. This is under review. There has been talk about being in Bill 21, [but] we haven’t been told yet,” González said. “We have to manage this matter with a lot of caution since, while it’s true that no one can live off the federal minimum wage, not to mention we have such a high poverty level in Puerto Rico, we...

After defending massive numbers of left wing riots for much of 2020, the hypocritical left is now upset about one right wing riot in 2021In my opinion, left wing criminals and right wing criminals should be held to the same standard. In my opinion, anyone, whether they are on the left or on the right, who smashes windows, commits arson, damages or destroys someone else’s property, commits assault, commits murder, or commits insurrection, should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.But that’s not how those on the left feel. Those on the left have a huge double standard when...

The Biden presidency is already turning into very good news for Iran, Russia, Norway and Saudi Arabia, as oil prices soar and create massive wealth for these nations. Biden's choice to end shale, review existing oil permits and halt the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline, and thereby end U.S. oil independence, is a dream come true to many. Russia and Saudi must be overjoyed. The order to stop new oil and natural gas leases on public lands aims to strengthen "green energy." Which is great! We all wish there were more green sustainable energy in the world. The problem is, we...

A pileup involving 100 vehicles has killed at least five people, injured dozens more and brought traffic on a slippery Texas interstate to a halt, officials said Thursday. Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl said authorities were going to each vehicle to assess medical needs after the "mass casualty incident" involving tractor-trailers and other vehicles on Interstate 35. The freeway will be closed all day "to remove vehicles one by one," he said. Thirty-six people have been taken to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries, according to the spokesman. Authorities had to use the Jaws of Life to pry...

The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell slightly last week to 793,000, evidence that job cuts remain high despite a substantial decline in new confirmed viral infections. Last week’s total declined from 812,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday. That figure was revised higher from the previously reported 779,000. The numbers point to a still-elevated number of layoffs. Before the virus erupted in the United States in March, weekly applications for jobless aid had never topped 700,000, even during the Great Recession. […] Thursday’s government report also showed a sizable rise in the total number of Americans...

BURBANK, CA—Disney has apologized to Gina Carano and rehired her after she announced today that she identifies as a problematic, abusive, toxic male director. "I'm not a Republican actress -- I'm actually a toxic, abusive, gaslighting director of many popular shows and films over the years," Carano said. "I am finally ready to come out of the closet and live my truth." Disney's response was immediate, as the company profusely apologized and hired her back. "We are so sorry to Ms. Carano for firing her -- we did not realize she was actually a sexually abusive male director trapped in...

The past year has definitely been tough on mail carriers in some areas. It’s bad enough that they have to visit so many homes every day, wondering if they’re going to contract the plague. But in some of the nation’s larger cities, they are also contending with mounting crime rates and assaults on postal workers. In the Edison Park neighborhood of Chicago, it appears that all of this pressure has finally become too much. CBS News in Chicago is reporting that some residents of that part of town haven’t gotten any mail delivered in up to two weeks. And when...

AJ Louderback, Sheriff of Jackson County in Texas, told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Monday night that it was “absolutely true” that the Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into U.S. communities without giving them a COVID-19 test. “It’s absolutely true,” Louderback said. “It’s even, if I can continue, Tucker, the memo, the memo that I received this last week, it’s essentially a defund the ICE by memo, by a memorandum that was sent out by David Borkowski on Jan. 20 or 21. So this is a particularly devastating document for Texans and Americans here in the United States....
