On Friday morning, 61 year old Mike Fuoss went to work at his sand and gravel pit in rural central Michigan just like he always did. Fuoss, who kept a fairly low public profile, was not a public figure in the small town of Owosso, Michigan, despite the fact that he also owned a construction company, developed a subdivision, and partnered with a few locals who had started small businesses, including a small community newspaper. And despite the fact that he would be the victim of a murder by a killer who would become a national story, Mike Fuoss wouldn’t...

A Stubborn People by Ari Bussel Not taking action has a tendency of coming back to bite us. Mordechai Va’anunu, who exposed the atomic secrets of Israel, was motivated, according to Ha’aretz newspaper, “by reasons of principle: he was concerned that Israel's nuclear program was, in his view, out of control, that there wasn't Knesset supervision of the program, or public monitoring of any sort. Financial reward was not his motive. The fact is that he did not receive money from [the Sunday Times] for [the Times’] report." It was the mid 70’s when Va’anunu worked at the Nuclear Compound...

CAROL Pullar feared her Kilmore East house would be destroyed in the Black Saturday inferno. Returning the day after, she was thrilled it had been spared and surprised by a note left on her kitchen table. "Dear residents, your home was under severe frontal and spot attack. Diamond Creek tanker 2 and its composite crew were able to protect your home and at times fire was at your doorstep. I sincerely appologise (sic) but for the 3 hrs we were here we had to use the water out of your tanks." It finished with a postscript: "Back door was open....

I don't want government-run health, but I have figured out how to checkmate the Left on the issue. Tell them that we will accept ANY plan that requires participation by all senators, congressmen and government employees. The utter fairness of this offer is patently obvious.. It is also patently obvious that our inside-the-beltway political elite would never accept such a plan.

If you had not noticed, this joint called Earth is a soggy place. Water covers about 71% of the surface and plunges nearly seven miles down, a depth slightly deeper and colder than Al Gore’s soul. If you stood every existing human side by side they would not cover a fraction of Lake Maracaibo, which is still a quarter of Al Gores growing girth. Which may well explain why the planet is cooling and my green friends are in dithers. ... Have a tofu burger. You’ll feel better. Their confusion is understandable. After all, with China now the top producer...

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn (D) has postponed balancing his state’s budget until after the February 2010 primary election. The Governor’s action contradicts the state’s constitution and threatens the availability of funding for the state’s vast network of social subsidies to targeted beneficiaries. Quinn called the breach of the state’s constitution “tolerable.” “Obviously, we’ll need a tax increase to cover the hole in the state budget,” Quinn alleged. “But I don’t need to be hammered by my political enemies for advocating that before the election. There’ll be time enough to take that stand after I’m reelected.” The Governor also discounted the...

I was at the grocery store today and I noticed a stand in the middle of one of the aisles. What caught my attention was the sign on the stand that said "organic milk". How can this milk be organic if it's sitting in the middle of an aisle, not being refrigerated? Wouldn't they have to pump this milk full of preservatives for it to not have to be refrigerated? I don't get it. I was watching the History Channel today. They ran a commercial for a program they are showing soon about when there are no more people on...

I am so glad I get to say, “I was there!”This was the most incredible event I have ever participated in! Walking down Pennsylvania Ave. with all those people! We were singing, there was praying, the pledge of allegiance was said, there was a moment when the entire avenue erupted in a giant shout! It was like a wave that started from the back and slowly moved up the avenue. It was incredible. You could hear this giant shout from behind you moving closer and closer like a wave,, louder and louder and then it just swept over us and...

I hope this was an accident, a fluke that can be rationally explained. If not, then our news is being censored beyond the wildest excesses of the Soviet Union. And Google, which has already stooped to co-operating with China in similar censorship, may be a co-conspirator. On Saturday, September 12, 2009, President Barack Obama spoke before about 15, 000 people at a healthcare rally in Minneapolis. A few hours earlier, a crowd of between 70,000 and 1,200,000 citizens gathered in Washington, DC to protest excessive federal spending and intervention. I think we can safely conclude that any Tibetan monk or...

As the rain cleared, and the sun began to rise, Key peered through the lifting darkness anxious to see if the flag they had seen the night before was still flying. The 2009 AFL-CIO Convention just got a message from the top leaders in Congress: We stand with you and with America’s workers. Pelosi said: On behalf of the Congress, I thank all of you for your...

Newt Gingrich knows from stimulus. American Solutions for Winning the Future, Gingrich's D.C.-based PAC, has named a porn purveyor its "Entrepreneur of the Year" for 2009, according to representatives of the pornographer. Allison Vivas heads up Pink Visual, a DVD production and distribution company based in Van Nuys, Ca., that specializes in adult films. Vivas' PR representative, Brian S. Gross, is circulating a letter dated Wednesday ostensibly from Joe Gaylord, a consultant working for Gingrich, telling her "Newt's Business Defense and Advisory Council" had agreed that she was deserving of the honor in "recognition of the risks you take to...

The trainee inspectors then have to change their valuation to place the home in a higher bracket. A further exercise trains inspectors to look out for ‘a garage large enough for two cars and a drive large enough for three’, a ‘hardwood conservatory with single glazing and tiled floor’, a ‘full sea view’ and recent modernisation. The language in the manual will strike homeowners who have carried out improvements as positively Orwellian. Alongside pictures of homes and their value-adding features – including in some cases a Sherlock Holmes-style magnifying glass on the pictures for inspecting building features – inspectors are...

Walt Disney Co is to remake the zany 1960s Beatles movie "Yellow Submarine" in 3-D in a deal with the band's company Apple Corps. Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook said on Friday the new "Yellow Submarine" will be directed by Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis using the same motion-capture effects he employed in the family movie "Polar Express." It will incorporate the 16 Beatles songs and recordings from the original film, licensed from Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI Capitol Records. No release date was announced. The original film, about a peaceful, music-loving underwater community that is attacked by music hating "blue...

I distinctly remember one day when I was in the seventh grade and my father and I both had an appointment with a new dentist. (We'd recently moved back to Indiana after living in California for many years and had to find a new family dentist.)So we went to a dentist whose name I now mercifully forget. Both my Dad and I were a bit put off by several things. First was the sloppy dental hygienist who left us both with sore gums. Second was when the dentist tried to encourage my Dad to stop the orthodontics treatment I had...
