L = The "lifetime" of communicating civilizations

Notice that the lifetime of covioizations is another capital letter, L.

That would indicate that it is a major factor. So the answer to "Where are they?" may be, "Doing something incredibly stupid."

The tags for blinking and marquee have been stripped out by John, and thankfully so as they were quite.. interesting.
I was told that there was once an entire thread stuck on italics, an marquee while blinking.
I never personally saw that particular combo myself, but I did see blinking marquee stuck on for four posts or so once.

And getting stuck on a wall due to a netglitch isn't fun.
