Tennis legend Martina Navratilova had a fiery reaction on Monday night after no Senate Democrat voted in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to break the filibuster. The bill, led by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., failed to receive the 60 votes it needed to get through the procedural vote. Republicans needed 60 votes but only received 51. No Democrats sided with Republicans on the bill. Two Democrats were absent from the vote, as were two Republicans. The bill failed, 51-45. The 18-time Grand Slam champion is a staunch Democrat but has been critical of her...

Michael C. Donilon, the chief strategist behind Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign, said Democratic leadership “lost its mind” when they ousted Biden from the party’s ticket, arguing he was their best chance at keeping the White House. “The Democratic primary voters chose Joe Biden to be the nominee of the Democratic Party,” said Donilon, a spring fellow at the Institute of Politics. “The Democratic party leadership, and the biggest funders in America, didn’t.” In a wide-ranging post mortem at the IOP Thursday evening, Donilon remained adamant that the former president would “still be the best” for the job – despite his...

The White House slammed Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy as a "moron" on social media after the Connecticut lawmaker posted an expletive-riddled admonishment against a Lara Trump parody account he seemingly believed belonged to the president's daughter-in-law. "You are a moron, Chris. It is obvious this page is not affiliated with President Trump, his family, or the administration. We do, however, support your right to make such a statement, no matter how imbecilic it makes you look," the White House's X account, Rapid Response 47, said in a message posted on Friday. The rapid response account is a new White House...

When Ric Harris traded in his ageing Mercedes for a Tesla Model 3, he was instantly converted. “It was a bit like having a spaceship,” says the 51-year-old computer programmer. “It saved me an absolute fortune in fuel; the only thing it’s had done is tyres and topping up the windscreen washer fluid.” When he acquired the car on a company scheme, Harris did not consider the politics of Tesla’s billionaire owner too closely. “Elon Musk just seemed like a really interesting person. Everything he was doing seemed really positive,” he says. Four and a half years later, the car’s...

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) is pushing a ban on AR-15s by focusing on their gas operation system approximately 64 years after the gun’s design included such a system. Breitbart News reported that Sen. Angus King (I-ME) and a group of Senate Democrats, including Kelly, introduced an AR-15 ban early Thursday. In so doing, they used new catchphrases such as “lethal capacity weapons” and “gas-operated semiautomatic. Later Thursday, Kelly posted a video on X in which he continued to emphasize the new catchphrases by explaining that this latest attempt to ban AR-15s and similar rifles “focuses on the lethality of their...

A top Democrat downplayed concerns that Hunter Biden received money from the same Chinese energy firm that doled out cash to the indicted informant Gal Luft. “Who cares if they had money from the same company,” Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) blurted out during a brief exchange in the House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday. Luft has been indicted on eight counts, including for acting as an unregistered foreign agent of Chinese entities. Throughout the Oversight Committee’s hearing Wednesday on IRS whistleblower allegations, Democrats needled Republicans for taking Luft seriously, suggesting it undermines their credibility now that his indictment is public knowledge.

Maryland's outgoing Republican Gov. Larry Hogan is laying the groundwork to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. Trump was first to officially jump into the 2024 race - doing so last Tuesday from Mar-a-Lago, a week after his party suffered a disappointing midterm result. But Hogan - from the moderate, anti-MAGA wing of the party - visited the key early caucus and swing state of Nevada last weekend, to address the annual Republican Jewish Coalition conference. The Washington Examiner reported Wednesday that he's also set up a series of meetings with donors and grassroots activists after Thanksgiving....

Sometimes truth really is the best defense. All but two Democrats sided with J Street over Israel and voted against the confirmation of Ambassador Friedman. Republicans stood with the Jewish pro-Israel community. J Street lost. Jews and supporters of Israel won. Of the Senate Dems who spoke against Friedman, all but one were recipients of sizable amounts of J Street money. J Street is the anti-Israel pressure group set up by George Soros. Schatz, Udall, Van Hollen and Leahy had all gotten cash from J Street. Al Franken had not. But he had a better grievance against Ambassador Friedman. "Mr....

Viet Cong veteran Vo Ban Tam remembers the first time he crossed paths with John Kerry on the banks on the Bay Hap river, a day that ended in bloodshed. Almost a half-century later, the now 70-year-old Mekong Delta shrimp farmer locked eyes with the US Secretary of State on Saturday and they warmly grasped hands in mutual respect. Kerry returned to the Vietnam waterway at the end of a visit to the Communist nation, less than a week before he was to leave office, searching for the spot where he won a Silver Star for bravery as a young...

WASHINGTON — Among Ron Paul’s legions of freedom-loving followers, the prostitutes from Las Vegas’ famed Moonlight Bunny Ranch stand out — as passionately loyal. Brothel owner Dennis Hof’s “Pimping for Paul” campaign even tries to raise political contributions — in cash. Hof, who attended Paul’s Thursday night rally in Reno, told NBC-TV, “The Bunny Ranch bunnies are supporting Ron Paul because he’s for states’ rights . . . We love Ron Paul!” His girlfriend, Cami Parker, added, “All the bunny babes are registered Republicans [and] will be at [today’s] caucus.” Paul has said he doesn’t think government can “legislate virtue.”

You may remember this fellow who had an epic meltdown at an Occupy Wall Street rally: Edward T. Hall III. ...He is also attending Columbia University, an Ivy League college. In fact, I was able to track down his college profile on http://columbia.academia.edu/, accompanied by this picture: Under the "about" section, he writes of his interests: I study intertemporal choice with respect to environmental decisions. I wish to develop socially based interventions to help moderate excessive discounting. I am also especially interested in the organizing of research information for public use, and open access use of ideas for problem solving......

Gov. Ed Rendell, another old friend. An unspecified group of national leaders will huddle together tomorrow to discuss those plans, he said.

By Amanda Carpenter Thursday, May 8, 2008 Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama flatly promised to raise taxes in a television interview Thursday afternoon. “I will raise CEO taxes,” Obama told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.” “If you’re a CEO in this country you’ll probably pay more taxes,” Obama said. Obama speculated his CEO tax rates “won’t be prohibitively high, you’ll pay roughly what you did in the 90’s when they were doing fine.” Obama also said he would eliminate the Bush tax cuts and install what he called a “middle class tax cut.” Blitzer asked Obama to define...
