SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Wearing a bright safety vest with the words “Safe Passage” on the back, Tatiana Alabsi strides through San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood to its only public elementary school, navigating broken bottles and stained sleeping bags along tired streets that occasionally reek of urine. Along the way in one of America’s most notorious neighborhoods, she calls out to politely alert people huddled on sidewalks, some holding strips of tin foil topped with illicit drugs. “Good afternoon, happy Monday!” Alabsi says to two men, one slumped forward in a wheelchair and wearing soft hospital socks and one slipper. Her...

"Military pay, ammunition, tanks, planes, and compensation for dead and wounded soldiers, all contribute to the GDP figures. Put simply, the war against Ukraine is now the main driver of Russia's economic growth" Foucart said... Other areas of Russia's economy are hurting as the war drags on. Moscow is slammed with a severe labor shortage, thanks to young professionals fleeing the country or being pulled into the conflict. The nation is now short around 5 million workers, according to one estimate, which is causing wages to soar. Inflation is high at 7.4% — nearly double the 4% target of its...

He said, “Every year, I express my best wishes for #EidAlFitr to the Muslim community around the world. “My heart is broken knowing that in Gaza, Sudan and many other places – because of conflict and hunger – so many Muslims will not be able to...

February was more than 1.7 degrees Celsius warmer than an average February in pre-industrial times, reported Copernicus, the European Union’s climate monitoring service. The average global surface air temperature during the month was 13.54 degrees Celsius — or about 56 degrees Fahrenheit — and beats the previous warmest February, which was recorded in 2016. The month was also part of a record-warm twelve-month period, according to the service, which reported that “the global-average temperature for the past twelve months...

MSNBC host Al Sharpton said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that the New York City civil fraud trial judgment against former President Donald Trump of $354 million in damages and being barred from serving as a corporate officer or a director of a company in the state for three years means he is a “broken person psychologically.” Sharpton said, “Let’s not forget, he’s still facing four trials he’s got to pay lawyers, and he doesn’t know how long the trials are going to last. He does not know what is going to be the consequence there. He can raise money. Whether...

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that he believed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) “needs help” because of two physical altercations he had with the ex-speaker. Anchor Jake Tapper asked, “You are a combat veteran. You served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and you have watched many politicians speak as if Congress itself were a battlefield. They want to score points for their side no matter the costs. This week a Republican lawmaker accused Kevin McCarthy of giving him a sucker elbow to his kidneys. For reasons mysterious to the rational human mind, Fox News and the Republican National Committee decided to subject Americans to the most bizarre public spectacle in recent memory. It was stupid. It was strange. It was the second Republican presidential primary debate, which began with British-American Stuart Varney having a seizure while attempting to introduce his Univision cohost Ilia Calderón and concluded with Dana Perino asking the contestants who should be “voted off the island.” “Leading the charge, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dismissed the question outright,” The Independent reported. “I’m not going to do that, with all due respect, we’re...

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In its first official act, the new DHS Government Disinformation Board ruled today that all criticism of the Government Disinformation Board is disinformation. This comes in response to sharp criticism from conservatives, which they say is untrue and unwarranted. “The new board has barely begun its work and already many have jumped to the entirely unwarranted conclusion that it will be used to quash free speech," said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. "This could not be further from the truth, as everyone in this country has the right to say how much they support and agree with the Biden administration....
