It's time for the U.S. Supreme Court to recognize that the Second Amendment right to 'keep and bear arms' does not end arbitrarily at a state’s border. There’s always a risk in trying to predict how the U.S. Supreme Court will decide a case. Justices have proven to be unpredictable in the past, and court watchers will admit that with the Supreme Court, conventional wisdom is anything but conventional. Still, there’s a buzz among the firearm industry and gun owners about the Supreme Court agreeing to hear an appeal in the case of New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v....

The great ammo shortage that began last year will likely continue at least into early 2022, or perhaps even later. Shelves at firearm retailers have largely remained empty, and ammunition continues to sell out as fast as it comes in. It isn’t uncommon to see customers lined up at large retailers and even trekking to remote gun shops in the hopes of finding any ammunition. Increasingly, the lines for ammunition have become to resemble holiday shopping for that must-have toy of the season. The situation is not any better online, where retailers also quickly sell out of their stock. In...
  • Second Amendment Sanctuary Bill Passes Tennessee House

The Tennessee House voted Monday evening to make the state a Second Amendment sanctuary. The House adopted Senate Bill 1335, which passed last week in the Senate. It “affirms that any law, treaty, executive order, rule, or regulation of the United States government” that violates the Second Amendment is unenforceable. That violation would have to be determined by either the Tennessee or U.S. Supreme Court. Any official that would then attempt to enforce the unconstitutional law would then be subject to ouster. The bill now will head to Gov. Bill Lee’s desk.

Texas is a Second Amendment bastion. And they’re poised to become the one of the newest members of the constitutional carry club. Local politics prevented this push in times past. Now, a bill allowing for permitless carry has passed a state senate committee. Gov. Greg Abbott has been clear: If the bill comes to my desk, I’ll sign it. It now goes to the Texas Senate floor for a full vote, where some reports say passage is not a slam-dunk. The senate is split 18-13, with Republicans controlling the chamber. That’s not a lot of wiggle room for antics. Still,...

Judge T. Scott Webb, of White County, Illinois, Found the requirement to obtain a (FOID) before owning a firearm in Illinois, to be unconstitutional. From the decision, Case 17-CM-60, 26 April 2021: “A citizen in the State of Illinois is not born with a Second Amendment right. Nor does that right insure when a citizen turns 18 or 21 years of age. It is a façade. They only gain that right if they pay a $10 fee, complete the proper application, and submit a photograph. If the right to bear arms and self-defense are truly core rights, there should be...

On Monday, April 26, 2021, the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of New York Rifle, Et Al. v. Corlett, for the question of whether the denial of applications for firearms carry licenses violates the Second Amendment. From the supremecourt.gov: The petitions for writs of certiorari are granted. 20-843 NEW YORK STATE RIFLE, ET AL. V. CORLETT, KEITH M., ET AL. The petition for a writ of certiorari is granted limited to the following question: Whether the State’s denial of petitioners’ applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment. Growing up in rural South Carolina on my family's farm, I developed a love, appreciation and, most importantly, a respect for firearms. To this day, I remain a collector of firearms and a supporter of the American right to keep and bear arms as enshrined in the Second Amendment. I was taught that safety is paramount to gun ownership, so I have always encouraged responsible gun ownership and use for all Americans. With that being said, I have noticed a disturbing trend in our country: an ever-increasing number of shootings and gun-related deaths. And while the quick response from some,...

While it may seem obvious that the constitutional right to "keep and bear arms" extends beyond the home, federal courts have been debating that question for years. This week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that could finally settle the issue, which the petitioners call "perhaps the single most important unresolved Second Amendment question." The case involves a New York law that requires applicants for handgun carry licenses to show "proper cause," which according to state courts means more than a "generalized desire" to "protect one's person and property." Applicants must "demonstrate a special need for self-protection distinguishable...

Republicans await chance to checkmate Kelly on eight vetoed bills.. Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed two bundles of election reform measures Friday that would have restricted advance voting, eliminated emergency powers to alter voting procedures, added a new crime for turning in others’ ballots, and strengthened penalties for existing election crimes. Kelly also vetoed a bill allowing teenagers to carry concealed firearms after obtaining a state permit. It also would have automatically enabled people with conceal-carry permits issued by other states to take hidden handguns into public throughout Kansas, even residents of the 10 states that allow certain convicted stalkers...

We have a brand-new public health crisis -- gun violence. Now that the last pandemic is dying out, President Asterisk has decreed that people shooting each other is our next pandemic. It turns out murder is not a morality problem, it’s a health problem. It’s no wonder we haven’t dealt with this crisis effectively -- we didn’t really understand it. It seems to me that our political rulers just need to have another dance with their new-found emergency powers. Perhaps Dr. Two-Mask Fauci can lead us out of this crisis. He can use science to address gun violence with the...
  • Glock 43X Black: Best Self-Defense Gun For Concealed Carry?

    19FortyFive ^ | 4/21/2021 | Caleb Larson
Glock’s Slimlines offer shooters a thinner pistol frame, ideal for shooters with smaller hands or for situations when concealment is a must. This is achieved by using a thinner, 10-round standard magazine. Although a 10-round magazine certainly offers a lower capacity than some of Glock’s standard pistol sizes, it is nearly unparalleled for a subcompact pistol size. It is worth mentioning too that the 43X is chambered in 9x19mm. Although this is by no means the most powerful handgun cartridge on the market, combined with the 43X’s 10-round magazine capacity, it’s not a bad choice at all.

The measures proposed include only giving firearms permits to residents who successfully pass gun safety classes, as well as raising the purchasing age for long guns including rifles and shotguns from eighteen to twenty-one. Other proposals would require that all firearms be locked up in homes, the microstamping of ammunition to make it easier to trace, and the creation of an electronic database of all ammunition sold. Murphy has also called for a ban on all .50 caliber firearms and he would require that anyone moving to New Jersey to register their firearms. The governor also called for a bill...

The Judge’s primary pistol cartridge is the .45 Colt, a cartridge that has enjoyed popularity since its introduction in the early 1870s. The cartridge served as the standard U.S. military handgun cartridge for nearly 15 and was originally a black powered cartridge, though modern loadings use smokeless powder propellant. Likewise, the .410 shotshell came to life in the 1870s, and despite its old age is still regarded as a lighter, more manageable shotshell, particularly for new or smaller shooters. The shell’s relatively small diameter lends itself well to rifles designed for pest control or as military survival rifles — or...

However, the Department of Justice (DoJ) conducted a study in 2004 that concluded that such a ban actually did little to reduce gun violence. “Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement,” the study concluded. However, the bill has already earned support from several gun control organizations including the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence; Everytown; March for Our Lives; Change The Ref; Coalition to Stop Gun Violence; Center for American Progress and Violence Policy Center; Orange...

President Biden Friday demanded the Republicans in the Senate move on passing gun background check legislation, calling the string of mass shootings and gun violence a "national embarrassment." Biden pushed the Senate to take a vote on House-passed legislation that would expand background checks and close certain loopholes. "I strongly, strongly urge my Republican friends in the Congress who refuse to bring up the House-passed bill to bring it up now," Biden said. "This has to end. It's a national embarrassment." Speaking at a joint White House press conference Friday with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Biden was pressed on...
