We keep screaming that Texas is headed blue, but folks don't believe us. Remember, the GOP has a super-majority in the Texas legislature and can't pass Constitutional Carry.

That’s not a Democrat problem but a faint-hearted-GOP-squishes problem.

Worth noting that until 1995, Texas was no-issue on concealed carry permits.

Now it’s on the edge of going constitutional carry. I’d call that progress. Just need that last little bit. Keep fighting!

This has been the year of discovering just how few Republicans are conservatives.

Correction: This has been the year the less clueful have discovered just how few Republicans are conservatives. There’s more than a few of us that have known for quite some time, there’s masses of people even here on FR who have had their heads in the sand about ‘their’ Republican politicians.

FTA:

โ€œAt this point we donโ€™t have the votes on the floor to pass it. I plan to meet with law enforcement who oppose permitless carry and with the [National Rifle Association] and [Gun Owners of America] who support it to see if we can find a path that a majority of senators will vote to pass.โ€

In most cases, Senate bills require 18 votes from the 31-member chamber to be considered on the floor. There are only 18 GOP senators, so a permitless-carry bill would need the support of every Republican in the chamber to reach the floor โ€” or at least one Democratic vote if any Republicans defect.

On Friday afternoon, one key GOP senator, Sen. Kel Seliger of Amarillo, suggested he may not be immediately supportive of the proposal. He told The Texas Tribune that his office was still researching the issue and he tends to support โ€œjust about allโ€ bills related to gun rights, but the โ€œsystem that we have now works.โ€

He said it was too early to say whether he would block the bill from coming to the floor or vote against it if it made it to the floor.

++++

Sounds like Sen. Kel Seliger of Amarillo needs to receive some phone calls from his constituents and from around the Lone Star State.

Also FTA....

...Patrickโ€™s pronouncement drew skepticism from some permitless carry supporters who suggested Patrick could wrangle the votes for the proposal if he truly supported it. The Texas GOP chairman, Allen West, said in a radio interview Monday evening that it has โ€œbeen the lieutenant governor that has not wanted [permitless carry] to see the light of day.โ€.....

Thank you, Col Allen West!!

Another possibility is that he’s looking for some sort of pork or other payoff.

Worth noting that seven Democrats supported permitless carry in the Texas House - the fact that this occurred makes Patrick’s statement decidedly odd.

I called the office of my State Senator, Joan Huffman (17th District) and asked her staffer (Austin) where she stood on Constitutional Carry. He advised that he did not know but “would get back with me”. I then asked him to advise Senator Huffman that Texas is behind 20 other states in recognizing the Second Amendment for what it it and that she needs to be in full support of our Constitutional Right to Carry.

He was polite and seemed to understand exactly what I was saying.

I am waiting for him to get back to me on her position.

We need to let these people know that we are dead serious about this.

God Bless Texas!
