Iran ‘frighteningly close’ to a nuclear weapon, Energy secretary Chris Wright warns

WASHINGTON — Energy Secretary Chris Wright warned Wednesday that Iran is “frighteningly close” to developing weapons-grade enriched uranium.

Speaking to lawmakers on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Wright stressed that Iran’s enriched uranium, which President Trump is deadset on confiscating, puts the regime just weeks away from the threshold needed to get a nuke.

“They are a small number of weeks away to enrich that to weapons-grade uranium. There’s still a weaponization process that happens after that, but they’re quite close,” he told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Knowing all the peripheral economic concerns, what efforts should the US expend to prevent Iran constructing nukes?

Your opinion should be somewhere between Total War...and Just Look the Other Way.

Some consider it existential, others folly.

Also, consider the impact to our place as Hegemon if we fail to achieve this goal after multiple, clear declarations by POTUS that we would.

What if... we just let one fly and detonate it in the middle of the desert? I mean, we used to do it in Nevada and Arizona all the time, right. Just a little one, kinda like the ones dropped on the Japanese.

Whatever it takes. Our economy is in good shape which would not be the case if Iran set off a nuke somewhere.

Wasn’t Iran’s nuclear program “obliterated”? They rebuild fast.

"Iran ‘frighteningly close’ to a nuclear weapon..."

Wait, didn't we just bomb them to within inches of the stone-age?

I am not of understanding.

This can’t be possible. Trump just said last July that we completely obliterated Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“Wait, didn’t we just bomb them to within inches of the stone-age?”

Your sarcasm indicates you would look the other way.

Iran isn’t co-operating, so how do you plan to get the enriched Uranium out?

Bombing radar sites, bunkers, and airfields from high-altitude hasn’t worked.

So, send in ground troops, 5 months before the Mid-term elections?

That ain’t happening. That would be electoral suicide.

“What if... we just let one fly and detonate it in the middle of the desert? “

The Russians will see that as approval for a few tactical nukes to stop the Ukrainian offensive. North Korea may see it as permission for some really high-level coercion. Then there’s Pakistan and India, who will see it as permission for a first strike against their hated enemies. The nuclear genie hasn’t been contained by iron law. It is contained by the fact that no one sees clear “permission” to use their nukes. Firing one off for display gives everyone permission to do whatever the heck they want.

“Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Have Been Obliterated”

Just the processing centers.

There were probably a few centrifuges that were being made in a factory, in transit, in training centers, etc.

Parts for centrifuges were also probably being made, probably enough for a few centrifuges.

There are almost certainly enough centrifuges for the final cycle, or two.

It would have some negative impact here but ZERO impact on the Ayatollahs who run Iran.

Try to understand, these people are ABSOLUTE fanatics! They believe they are on a mission from their god to destroy Israel and The Great Satan (the U.S.). They can only be stopped by force.
