Trump reveals Xi's offer to break Iran's Hormuz chokehold... as China's price for the rescue looms

Donald Trump has revealed that Xi Jinping offered to help the US break Iran's chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz.

'President Xi would like to see a deal made,' Trump told Fox News. 'He said, 'If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help.' Anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of relationship, but he'd like to see the Hormuz Strait open.'

Trump did not say what Xi would want in return for China's assistance, but there have been reports that Beijing is seeking tariff relief and access to cutting-edge American AI chips made by the likes of Nvidia.

While the President has been effusive in his praise for Xi, the Chinese leader threatened to dim the mood earlier on Thursday when warned that any mishandling of Taiwan could lead to 'an extremely dangerous situation.'

'Handled well, relations between the two countries can maintain overall stability,' Xi said, according to the foreign ministry. 'If handled poorly, the two countries will collide or even clash.'

“If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help.”

You can take that to the bank.

Key question:Why hasn’t the US NAVY been able to take total control and secure the Strait of Hormuz?

When the Trump Administration lifted sanctions on Iranian oil, most of the 140 million barrels flowed to China which purchased the Iranian oil at below market rates.

Heck, at least it’s a better noise than that of a saber being rattled.

Trump and his underlings in the meantime chowing down on some fine far-eastern cuisine one would hope.

“The Art of the Deal.”

But can there ever be any real lasting deal with Iran? Deals only work between people with some degree of integrity and/or enforceable legal framework.

Trump prides himself on being able to come to the terms of a deal with darn near anybody, but, you’re right, this situation may end up being the exception that serves to prove the rule.

*************

We’ve studied and war gamed this situation for decades and yet it still seems to be a tough nut to crack. Of course drone warfare has complicated things, and new strategies and technologies are needed, but the fundamental objective of opening the Strait remains problematic.

Kharg Island is a vital economic asset to Iran and therefore perhaps one of the keys to solving this problem. JMHO

The Art of the Deal.

Never make a deal with the devil.

Anything we "get" in a "deal" with China will be nowhere near as good as it appears to be.

Anything we give in a "deal" with China will be used against us.

I think he'd accept any help at this point, considering the Euros are content to let us drift in the wind; the Strait needs to be opened.
