About 1.2 million international students studied in the U.S. last year, of which about 266,000 are Chinese, according to the Institute of International Education's (IIE) data.
"I frankly think it's good that people come from other countries and they learn our culture, and many of them want to stay here, I think it's good," Trump said in the interview which aired Thursday evening. "Not everybody agrees with me, and it doesn't sound like a very conservative position and I'm a conservative guy; I'm more of a common sense guy."

This is what betraying your voters and turning your back on America First looks like.
I’m waiting for some 80 yo freeper living in Vermont to tell me—“ this is what I voted for!”
How about no.
No! We have enough Americans to go to school if needed and take jobs. We do we have to help everybody else instead of our own? No more globalization, one happy world, kumbaya.
Trump has done a 180 degree shift on a whole host of issues. Him getting us into that unnecessary war with Iran (for Israel) was the last straw for me. When the Dems take over and go after Trump he won’t be getting any sympathy from me. He’s literally become a traitor in my eyes.
Perhaps:
“The cardholder may not work for any domestic person or entity that has received a patent.”
That would make spying difficult.
Exactly what everyone thought Potus would do.
He goes into this knowing that all Chinese people wishing to legally imigrate to, or enter the US for any length of time are required by the Chinese gov’t to spy and report back to the motherland on a regular basis, then he comes away with this gem?
Sometimes Trump just befuddles me with his outlandish logic on things like this.
Newsweek is just pushing more Trump Derangement Syndrome propaganda.
We need to take Trump seriously, but not literally. Why wouldn’t we want to take the best minds from China, and have them produce for us, here in the USA?
It used to be called the brain-drain, where the best and brightest were attracted the the USA, the land of freedom and opportunity.
Elon Musk is the latest, best example of “brain drain” from the rest of the world to the advantage of the USA.
This is another case of Trump not being who we want him to be. Trump never cared deeply about immigration issues. He happily hired foreigners rather than Americans for his businesses. The Big Beautiful Amnesty Bill is coming after the midterms. Guaranteed.
NO!
It’s his illogic obsession with “making deals”. I believe he’d sell his mother if the price was right. I’ve voted for Trump in every election, but I’ve always been driven batcrap crazy by his weakness in recognizing enemies, and making what he thinks are “deals” with them.
“180 degree shift”

“Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon — it’s very simple.” (8/8/24)
“They can’t have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple. They can’t have a nuclear weapon. You cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.” (8/5/24)
“Iran should not have a nuclear weapon … Iran should never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.” (7/10/24)
“The main thing is Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon. That was my main thing. The deal was a simple deal. Iran can’t have a nuclear. You know, it can’t have a missile, it can’t have a nuclear missile. It cannot have that nuclear capability.” (6/20/24)
“We have a very hostile country that wants nuclear weapons. You can’t let that happen.” (6/15/24)

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon — very simple. They cannot have a nuclear weapon.” (5/1/24)
“You can’t let Iran have nuclear weapons.” (4/30/24)
“Iran wanted to make a deal, and what the deal — 90% of the deal that I want to make is no nuclear weapon. That’s 90% — almost 100%. It might be 100%. That’s all I want. No nuclear weapon for Iran” (3/25/24)
“I want everybody to be happy. They just can’t have a nuclear weapon.” (2/23/24)
“I just didn’t want Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I said, ‘You know, we’re going to make a great deal. Everybody’s going to be happy. You’re going to be rich as hell again. Everything’s going to be great, but you cannot have a nuclear weapon.’” (1/20/24)
“They cannot have a nuclear weapon. That was the only thing — the one thing I said, ‘You cannot have.’” (1/5/24)
“I just don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon.” (1/5/24)
“They will have, within a short period of time, nuclear weapons — and that is never something that can be allowed to happen.” (12/30/23)
“No nuclear weapons. You can’t have nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are the single greatest threat to this world.” (11/9/23)
“They can’t have a nuclear weapon. That’s all. They can’t have nuclear weapons. It’s too destructive, too powerful. They can’t have it.” (10/29/23)
“Don’t let Iran have nuclear weapons. That’s my only thing I have to tell you today. Don’t let them have it.” (10/16/23)

“We can’t let Iran get a nuclear weapon. We can’t do it. Can’t do it. We cannot let that happen.” (1/24/15)
“We can’t allow Iran to go nuclear.” (11/4/11)
And it is done so blatantly and cavalier.
“He’s literally become a traitor in my eyes.”
Because he STILL insists on no nukes for Iran? Something all US Presidents have insisted for 47 years? And you think he’s doing it because of Israel?
OK. You are a nut.
I strongly disagree with Trump on letting Chinese students in. That doesn’t make him a TRAITOR.
South Africa and other places never required by law their students and green card holders to work for their intelligence organizations. Chinese students and green card holders in STEM fields are required to steal university intellectual property and send it to China. Most universities do a terrible job of protecting their IP. Mainly due not caring because the idea of royalties and ROI - return on investment is not on their “Citizen-of-the World” radar screen. It’s a particularly damaging attitude in state supported schools.
President Trump: No, they don’t.
Did the Chinese mafia threaten Trump’s family, or what?
Is all this crap true, or is the MSM misrepresenting what really was said and done?
They should not legally be able to assign patent rights.
That would block them from getting R&D jobs.
