Donald Trump Defends China Purchasing US Farmland

President Donald Trump has defended Chinese nationals purchasing U.S. farmland, while conceding he does not “love it,” in comments that underscore a central tension in his China policy: balancing national or food security concerns with economic realities.

On the campaign trail, Trump was already warning against Chinese acquisitions in the U.S.

At a Smithton farm event in Pennsylvania in September 2024, he said that the U.S. should block Chinese purchases of farmland, adding: “we don’t want you buying our land.”

He goes to China with a massive upper hand then kowtows to their every demand. What doesn’t he get about the term enemy?

No “country” (ours included) should never own the land we produce food on (means of product as in communism).

“Look, it’s not that I love it—you want to see farm prices drop, you want to see farmers lose a lot of money? Just take that out of the market,” said Trump.

This is where Trump's inherent nature as a businessman is troublesome.

If you don't want farmers to lose a lot of money, there's a lot of other things that could be done before foreign ownership of American land comes into play.

Also, it's INCREDIBLY tone deaf, politically speaking.

Are we now supposed to believe what Newsweek reports?

Does China allow us to buy their land?

They don’t.

While I do not agree with your characterization of his trip to China l can’t agree with this or letting an army of Chinese “students” into our Colleges. I cannot make sense of WTH he is doing.

If China wants to buy our land, then proceed to salt it all, where do we get more productive land to use for us?

Are we now supposed to believe what Newsweek reports?

Trump said this himself, to Sean Hannity.

Read the article... instead of proving why the founders didn't want women voting.

I would love to buy some farm land. Why am I competing with the CCP on price?

This is Bee SSSSS. That farmland should immediately be taken back, give them a buck for it, and sell it back to farmers. The Red ChiComs build intel networks right next to our military installations. Just another blunder in my humble opinion.

Ukrainians have read The Art of the Deal and they have experienced to their sorrow Trump's dealmaking.

We citizens ought soberly to up what we got out of China and what we gave up.

We got some meaningless promises concerning Iran and some purchases of some planes (less than promised), some grain (necessary for China and part of China's plan to turn us into their producer of raw materials in exchange for high value-added manufactured goods, typical of a mercantile relationship), and an invitation to our billionaires to swim in Chinese waters where the sharks prey.

The US is essentially Brazil but with worse demographics and a lot of surplus military.

Xi knows this and acts accordingly.

BTW, I'm an international focused commercial broker and have dealt with many Chinese investors - citizens and green card holders.

In Trump's defense, many are not scary monsters, just trying to "refugee" their money into American real estate. There are, however, lots of shady types doing group buys and cleverly moving (laundering) money around.

Nearly all of them who buy farmland have no intention of using it for farming. Trump's head is up his ass.

Truly, may of you need to wake up. Any other time we are told to believe everything he says. This comes right out of his mouth in an interview with his buddy Hannity.

That war has led to all this losing.

Trump frequently offers bargaining chips - then insists on seeing he got something in return for it before delivering. This is a bargaining chip and one the Chinese won’t get because they won’t deliver anything from their side. Just empty promises on both sides - unless China delivers, but I think that is a 1% chance at best.
