Assembly Bill 2222 creates a refundable tax credit that would provide millions of dollars to news organizations across the state. Newsom said the benefits of the bill far outweigh his concerns, particularly in light of recent actions by President Donald Trump. “I could have vetoed it, but at this moment of anxiety and stress — everything that Donald Trump is trying to do — I couldn’t do that,” the governor said at a news conference in Sacramento,...

Among the visas revoked were 2,300 in connection with birth tourism, the practice of pregnant foreign nationals...

Senate Democrats shut down Republicans’ bid to deal with two key issues for voters heading into the midterms. Republicans tried and failed to pass a bill that would marry differing policy issues: banning lawmakers from using their insider knowledge to trade stocks and implementing voter ID policy nationwide — the latter of which the GOP has so far failed to accomplish with their SAVE America Act. The Stop Insider Trading Act cruised through the House earlier this month, where a majority of House Democrats voted against it. Though voters are highly supportive of both, Democrats in the House and Senate...

Raith Al-Tamimi, an Iraqi living in the UK, is one of those rare people willing to state the obvious truth: While the Arab world demands that the rest of the world defend it, Benjamin Netanyahu defends his country and, most especially, his country’s women. The funniest part of the video is watching the female host who, I presume, also lives in the UK, try to defend Muslim nations’ sorry record with their women, only to be overridden by the impassioned Al-Tamimi.Here’s the video and a transcript based on the subtitles:https://x.com/nick_matau/status/2105106820574650791

Green Party members have been told to replace terms such as “mothers and fathers” with gender-neutral terminology under new guidance on inclusive language. The Green party has produced an Orwellian glossary of ‘unacceptable’ language ahead of its conference this weekend. Its new ‘Inclusive Terminology Guidance’ instructs members to stop using words and phrases including ‘elderly’, ‘female politician’ and ‘mothers and fathers’. Also discouraged are ‘able-bodied’, ‘sex-change’, ‘homosexual’, ‘lady doctor’, ‘youngster’ and ‘sexual preference’. The guidance recommends replacing ‘gendered job titles’ with ‘gender-neutral terms wherever possible’. Members should say ‘chair’ instead of ‘chairman’, ‘police officer’ instead of ‘policeman’ and ‘parents and...

In an extraordinary example of individuals from hostile countries working together to save lives, Israeli media that spoke with airport authorities are saying that the alternate pilot crew who landed a hijacked flight safely included a Russian and a Ukrainian. The temporarily hijacked FlyDubai flight was headed for Tel Aviv in Israel, with many Israeli passengers, but after the violent incident it diverted to Tabuk for an emergency landing. No student should be threatened with discipline for saying what is true, that God made us male and female’ The pronoun police at the University of California were just sidelined. But are they lurking elsewhere in the Golden State? In response to a free speech lawsuit filed by the grassroots organization Defending Education, a federal judge this month enjoined the University of California from enforcing the component of its sexual harassment policy that punishes students for the so-called misgendering of classmates. Namely, using pronouns and names that comport with biological realities. So men can still wear dresses on UC campuses;...
