Ukraine's internal security bureau said on Tuesday that it had detained four people after investigating the supply of 120,000 defective mortar shells to its troops. The Security Service of Ukraine, also known as the SBU, wrote on its Telegram channel that the people arrested included a military official, a quality control official, and two heads of a defense manufacturing business. The announcement came six months after Ukrainian media reported complaints from some frontline units that their 120 mm mortar shells weren't firing or would fail to explode.

Democrats would root for tooth decay over oral hygiene and Snidely Whiplash over Dudley Do-Right. Something about them is clearly not right. To wit: California Democrats have yet again blocked efforts to strengthen protections against underage sex trafficking, this time in the form of a bill to make it a felony to purchase 16- or 17-year-olds for sex. But, hey, who are we to judge if a California Democrat — or someone from a “marginalized” group -- wants to purchase a 16 or 17-year-old for sex? Meanwhile, Minnesota Democrats killed an amendment to a crime and public safety bill that...

Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said President Donald Trump’s tariffs caused the world to see the United States as an “unreliable partner.” Host George Stephanopoulos said, “I think you identified the tariffs as the number one issue. Liberation Day is probably the most consequential day of the first 100 days. Is there an exit strategy for Donald Trump on this? He asked, “Can he make this sort of series of deals that limit the damage?”

Excluding candidates from standing in elections may be a legally sound option to protect democracy from anti-democratic forces. But it is an insufficient solution on its own. Romania and France have recently banned candidates from running in forthcoming elections, causing uproar domestically and internationally. While the circumstances and the reasons behind the bans are very different, the barring of candidates raises similar questions in both countries: are bans justified and, even if they are, do they harm democracy? When are election bans justified? Banning political parties or politicians on the basis of their politics is seen as a measure of...

President Donald Trump said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the tariffs would make the United States a rich nation. Trump said, “The tariffs are going to make us rich. We’ll be a very rich country.” Host Kristen Welker said, “At your cabinet meeting, you said, ‘Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and maybe the two dolls would cost a couple of bucks more than you would normally.’ Are you saying that the tariffs will cause some prices to go up?” Trump said, “No, I think the tariffs will be great for us because...

Conservatives, not liberals, are best positioned to build—and in many cases, are already doing so. The Democratic Party is in total disarray. Its exhausted leadership has struggled to focus on any single front to concentrate its fire on the new administration, while AOC and Gavin Newsom do their warmups for the 2028 primaries. DOGE cuts and trade wars could give Democrats a launchpad for retaking the House in 2026, but it does not give them a positive platform in any meaningful sense. Perhaps that is why a new book from Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson has captured the policy world’s...

Alan Dershowitz said Friday he’s certain that the conviction of President Donald Trump in the New York hush money case will be overturned on appeal. Speaking on Newsmax’s The Record with Greta Van Susteren, Dershowitz said Trump’s legal team is preparing to appeal the Manhattan case, even though a formal sentence has not been issued. “The case is going to be appealed,” Dershowitz said. “Trump has hired Sullivan and Cromwell to be his lawyers to appeal the case.”

With four hats, including national security adviser, the former Trump rival is defying predictions he’d be a weak player. Marco Rubio is doing big things under President Donald Trump — way more than nearly anyone expected. The secretary of State was once thought of as one of the weakest players in the Trump orbit, a man who wouldn’t last long in the Cabinet because he faced many internal rivals and had major policy differences with Trump and the MAGA base. But Rubio has deftly earned the president’s trust, enough so that Trump this week gave him another powerful job as...

Daily Readings from the USCCBWhen it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.” So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. John 21:4–6Recall the first time there was a miraculous catch of fish in the Gospels. In Luke 5:1–7, Jesus was preaching to...

Show 15-17 Summary: This is one of those shows that took unexpected, fascinating turns. And it is not one to miss. We’d invited attorney Peter Ticktin, a life-long friend of President Trump, back on to discuss his lawsuit challenging the results of Florida Congressional District 14, where they found evidence of election fraud. Thousands of mail-in ballots may have been cast by modified duplicates buried in the voter rolls. Enough to overturn the results. Except that discussion turned into a deeper discussion about the Deep State and what really happened on January 6. Tune in to hear the actual, recorded...
