How Congress can — and must — fix the Supreme Court
The Hill ^ | 03/16/26 | by Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.)

Posted on 03/16/2026 10:37:32 AM PDT by fwdude

There is no institution that has lost more trust among the American people since 2020 than our judicial system.

This is not surprising. The legitimacy of the court depends upon it being seen as non-partisan arbiters of the law, and ever fewer Americans see them as such. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) started this when he allowed only 28 percent of President Obama’s nominees to be confirmed in the final two years of his presidency — and that was before his double standard with respect to the Supreme Court nominations of Merrick Garland and Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Yes, we know. The Supreme Court is "broken" only when Democrats aren't in charge.

Stopped reading after that. No need. You know the direction of this nonsense. If they don’t like the way the SCOTUS rules on the law , change the law.

It's broken because they are the most inefficient branch of the government. After
months or years, they make a ruling; local judges ignore the ruling. Back to square one.

Just plain nonsense.

Trum’s first term showed hot to “fix” the Supreme Court. Keep electing Conservatives president, get them to nominate Conservatives to judgeships across the judiciary and particularly at the Supreme Court. Keep it up till all Liberal justices have retired and been replaced by Conservatives.

I noticed there was no discussion about blue slips. Those atrocities permit the DC circuit to remain hyper-leftist/statist, guaranteeing official government agents will be impervious to accountability, while those opposing will be unmercifully punished.

He says “since 2020” then goes back to the last year of Obama, 2016.No doubt the whole piece is a lie, but just take that little bit, and why not go back to the “Lion of the Senate” lecher Teddy who Borked Republican nominee, and proceed through virtually every Republican nominee(Anita Hill / Clarence Thomas//Ballsy /Kavanaugh) and the savagery the Democrats invariably unchain, while Dem appointees skate through on large bipartisan majorities.

The blue slip rule in the Senate keeps the DC district hyper leftist. THAT district is the gatekeeper for government overreach and where conservatives go for excessive sentences.

Casten is a real idiot. Rather than McConnell bein the dupe for the politicalization of SCOTUS, go back and look at when Schumer came in if you want to see the real initiation of it. I’m sure the nominations were political before, but it was Schumer who said the quiet part out loud and pushed openly for politicalization. As far as the Turtle, he destroyed the ability to have a conservative court by not supporting real conservatives for nomination.

It is absolutely vital to the integrity of the United States that the democrats NOT gain control of Congress in the midterms! If they do, one of the first things they’ll do is pack the court with liberal justices; that one act alone will be the death knell of our country. Pray without ceasing.

Over the course of history, either the Congress or the President have from time to tome griped about the Supreme Court.

But over the long term, sticking to the Constitution (including judicial oversight) has proven to be the best policy!

The administrative state is out of control. The sc is the only institution standing in the way. The sc doesn’t need to be fixed.

The Senate would like a word. They say we are not voting on it you do not have 60 votes and go to dinner with a few donors.
