By the President of the United States of America.

A PROCLAMATION.

Whereas, It appears, from evidence in the Bureau of Military Justice, that the atrocious murder of the late President, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, and the attempted assassination of Hon. WM. H. SEWARD, Secretary of State, were incited, concerted and procured by and between.

JEFFERSON DAVIS, late of Richmond, Va., and

JACOB THOMPSON,

CLEMENT C. CLAY,

BEVERLY TUCKER,

GEORGE N. SANDERS,

W.C. CLEARY,

and other rebels and traitors against the Government of the United States, harbored in Canada;

Now, therefore, to the end that justice may be done, I, ANDREW JOHNSON, President of the United States, do offer and promise for the arrest of said persons, or either of them, within the limits of the United States, so that they can be brought to trial, the following rewards:

One hundred thousand dollars for the arrest of JEFFERSON DAVIS.

Twenty-five thousand dollars for the arrest of CLEMENT C. CLAY.

Twenty-five thousand dollars for the arrest of JACOB THOMPSON, late of Mississippi.

Twenty-five thousand dollars for the arrest of GEORGE N. SANDERS.

Twenty-five thousand dollars for the arrest of BEVERLY TUCKER, and

Ten thousand dollars for the arrest of WILLIAM C. CLEARY, late clerk of CLEMENT C. CLAY.

The Provost-Marshal-General of the United States is directed to cause a description of said persons, with notice of the above rewards, to be published.

[L.S.]

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the City of Washington, the second day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, and of the independence of the United States of America, the eighty-ninth.

ANDREW JOHNSON.

By the President:

W. HUNTER, Acting Secretary of State.

I find it interesting that a Federal Judge didn’t overrule the President by proclaiming that spending must first be approved by Congress.

I guess Presidents were allowed to lead back then.

The conspiracy to kill Lincoln was planned out in Canada. The Federal government could never connect it to Jefferson Davis or any Confederate leader.

Killing Lincoln was probably a deep state hit. He won the war but refused to borrow money from the bankers — printed his own money from the Treasury — and that could not be allowed to stand.

Having the Treasury print and control the money supply is mandated by the Constitution and is the only sensible way to do it, rather than having the Federal Reserve do it and plague the nation with debt.

If all these trillions of dollars had been printed up by the Treasury today, rather than the Fed, we would not have the incredible interest payments to make, which is insanity and totally corrupt.

Due to my personal preference of a nature both practical and aesthetic to look at the entities controlling the conspirators, I can’t help but notice the proposition that the papacy of that time period was responsible for the plot to kill Lincoln.

See “Rome’s Responsibility for the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” by General Thomas M. Harris.

Also see this, by Charles Chiniquy who was close to Lincoln since prior to his presidency:

“After Lincoln became President, Chiniquy recounts how he and his former lawyer spoke of the potential dangers to the President by way of assassination. It was not merely a personal matter but one that embodied a grave threat to these United States and all its citizens. Why? By declaring their liberty to live free under a republican form of government, as outlined in its original Constitution, the citizens of this country were living contrary to the teachings of the Church of Rome. Therefore, the Church’s secret societies were (and are) taking steps to remedy this matter as directed by their leaders.”

“1st. The most sacred principle of the United States Constitution is the equality of every citizen before the law. But the fundamental principle of the Church of Rome is the denial of that equality.”

“2nd. Liberty of conscience is proclaimed by the United States, a most sacred principle which every citizen must uphold, even at the price of his blood. But liberty of conscience is declared by all the Popes and Councils of Rome, a most godless, unholy, and diabolical thing, which every good Catholic must abhor and destroy at any cost.”

The winners, with the enthusiastic assist of the New York Times, wrote the post-war history books.

The real truth about the War of Northern Aggression, and its aftermath, is only known in the heavenly kingdom.

BrexitBen: "The winners, with the enthusiastic assist of the New York Times, wrote the post-war history books.
The real truth about the War of Northern Aggression, and its aftermath, is only known in the heavenly kingdom."

The Lost Cause of the Confederacy narrative began very soon after the war itself ended, and included:

  1. 1866 Edward Pollard's "The Lost Cause: A New Southern History of the War of the Confederates"

  2. 1873, Jubel Early's Southern Historical Society Papers began publishing Early's Lost Cause narratives on the Civil War.

  3. 1881, Jefferson Davis's book "The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government" expanded the Lost Cause narrative.

  4. 1894, The United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), founded to spread the Lost Cause ideology through textbooks, memorials, and public commemorations, ensuring that future generations learned a sympathetic version of Confederate history.

  5. 1870s - 1910s, Confederate sympathizers influenced the content of textbooks used in Southern schools, ensuring that their version of history dominated classroom narratives.

  6. By the 1930s, even Northern school textbooks were adapted to align with the Lost Cause perspectives, leading to a national consensus ensuring that Confederate leaders were portrayed favorably and that slavery was depicted in a less critical light.

  7. 2002, Thomas DiLorenzo published "The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War" critical of Lincoln and excusing the Lost Cause.
As for the "real truth", there is no doubt that diehard Confederates believed firmly in their cause, and that they adapted their ideas and rhetoric to suit the times, as they were a-changin.
