President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services has brought renewed attention to Kennedy’s stance on health matters, including his belief that beef tallow is a healthier cooking fat than seed oils. On social media, Kennedy recently cited beef tallow as a more natural, nutritious option, especially compared to widely used seed oils like canola and soybean oil. In an October post, Kennedy suggested that seed oils are a primary contributor to the obesity crisis, tying their rise in popularity to fast food chains like McDonald’s. The shift from beef tallow to seed oils...

A new study has revealed that gut bacteria may play a key role in aging, and that specific microbes could be targeted to promote healthy aging. Aging is a complex, multi-factorial phenomenon with progressive decline in several physiological functions. As Singapore faces a rapidly growing aging population, researchers are seeking ways to understand the aging process and identify key lifestyle and dietary factors to encourage healthy aging. As part of this effort, the team conducted the first large-scale study on over 200 octogenarians (people aged 80–89) in Singapore. Their investigation revealed how the gut microbiome changes with age, highlighting key...

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers does the 'Trump dance' after a touchdown. (LifeSiteNews) — Amateur and professional athletes across the United States, and even the world, are joining in on the “Trump dance” phenomenon. This past weekend, more than a dozen NFL and NCAA football players broke into “the dance” to celebrate their touchdowns and other big plays. “I’ve seen everyone do it. I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it … it was cool,” Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers said about his decision to do the impersonation after scoring in his...

After more than ten years of trying to write a memoir and all the craziness that's happened in my life (manic depression, swindling operation, running for office, almost flying off with a hundred grand of George Lucas's money among MANY other episodes), that a lot of people have asked me to produce, I can report that as of this afternoon the draft of the manuscript of my first book is finished! Some parts have been written over the years but it wasn't until three months ago that I truly devoted myself to the project.Thought I ought to post about it because...

A new study details how the accumulation of copper helps clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC)—the most common kidney cancer—grow and advance in stage. Copper is an essential trace element that is required to produce energy in the body and allows humans to live in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. Maria Czyzyk-Krzeska, MD, Ph.D. said that increased accumulation of copper is associated with worse outcomes for patients with ccRCC. Czyzyk-Krzeska and her colleagues established that ccRCC cells accumulate more copper as they advance from stage 1 toward metastatic disease. The team found high copper levels help cancer cells make more of a...

A Russian ballet dancer who was an outspoken critic of Russia’s war in Ukraine has mysteriously plunged to his death from the fifth floor of a building. Vladimir Shklyarov, a married father of two, plummeted around 60 feet to the ground from a building on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where the 39-year-old was the highest-ranking dancer, told Fontanka. Russian authorities initially labeled the fall an accident, blaming the painkillers he was taking before a complex spinal surgery. However, he joins numerous other critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin who have met untimely ends —...

If they did nothing wrong, what are they afraid of? After all, that's what they said about Donald Trump for years. Now that the script flipped, their tune has changed--dramatically. As I reported last week, former and current apparatchiks for the Department of Justice are making plans to resign in advance of Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January. Those headed for exits include Special Counsel Jack Smith and his top team of prosecutors, who just withdrew their appeal of Judge Aileen Cannon’s order dismissing the classified documents indictment in Florida and asked for a halt to the...

Boston’s Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu said in an interview on Sunday that her city won’t cooperate with the looming mass deportation operation from the incoming Trump administration — even as the region sees a number of illegal immigrants with criminal charges released back onto the streets. Wu was asked in an interview with WCVB about the Trump administration’s plans to launch a mass deportation operation when it takes office in January, and was asked what Boston’s response will be. “Elections have consequences, and the federal government is responsible for a certain set of actions, and cities, no individual city, can...

A six-year-old who had been locked in a laundromat dryer was found crying and shaking by Texas cops after he was placed there by three adults as punishment. Horrified by-standers called police after they watched the boy be locked in the dryer for more than five minutes at Hi Tek Washateria in Houston. It's unclear how everyone involved is related, but three adults and one child had been at the laundromat on Nov. 11 when the boy became upset after losing a bag of potato chips, according to the local constable. To punish him, Haven Duncan, 18, placed the boy...

Researchers have discovered a promising approach for reducing brain injury risk in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting (CAS). CAS is a procedure commonly performed in elderly patients with blockages in the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain. It carries the risk of cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome, a serious complication where sudden blood flow to the brain leads to injury or even death. The study assessed the effect of the sedative dexmedetomidine (Dex) on patients undergoing CAS. It found that only 11% of patients receiving Dex developed cerebral hyperperfusion, compared to 38% in a placebo group. Only 3% of patients...

There’s more than one way to install an Attorney General. President Donald Trump is suggesting on social media that if the Senate won’t confirm Matt Gaetz as the next Attorney General, Trump will go an alternate route. Trump could use the Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998 instead of the recess appointment process, which has also been floated to get the Panhandle Republican through a Senate where many Republicans are skeptical of the Gaetz pick. That 1998 law allows for temporary appointments. “If no one has been nominated to the position, an acting officer may serve in the position for...

South Dakota Republican Sen. John Thune on Sunday threatened to slap the International Criminal Court (ICC) with sanctions if it did not drop its application for an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Thune — who was selected Wednesday to be the next Senate Majority Leader once the GOP takes the upper chamber come January 2025 — warned that if the current Democratic leader does not take on the international court, he will. “If the ICC and its prosecutor do not reverse their outrageous and unlawful actions to pursue arrest warrants against Israeli officials, the Senate should immediately...

Neuroscientists have identified the binding site of low-dose ketamine, providing critical insight into how the medication alleviates symptoms of major depression in as little as a few hours with effects lasting for several days. Ketamine has been used since the 1960s as an anesthetic, but in 2000, the first trial of far lower doses of ketamine proved its rapid efficacy in treating major depression and suicidal ideation. Traditional antidepressants take months to kick in, which increases the risk for some patients to act on suicidal thoughts during treatment. Ketamine provides almost instant relief from depressive symptoms and remains effective for...

Guatemalans, Honduras, Nicaraguans and Ecuadorians were the next most foreign nationals ordered by judges deported from the United States in October, TRAC found. An analysis of immigration cases found two-thirds, or 66% of all Mexicans who applied...

President-elect Donald Trump’s victory bodes well for US-Morocco relations. As King Mohamed VI recalled in his statement congratulating Trump on his election win, during his first term, Trump recognized Rabat’s full sovereignty over the disputed territory of Western Sahara. Trump made this recognition with a presidential proclamation on December 10, 2020, in exchange for Morocco reestablishing diplomatic relations with Israel. In his statement, Mohammed VI went on to say that “the Moroccan people will forever be grateful” for this recognition, calling Washington “our longstanding friend and ally.” While Morocco hopes to pick up where it left off in negotiations with...
