Former President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Alex Mooney over Rep. David McKinley in a primary contest pitting the two Republican West Virginia lawmakers against one another. Following a loss in population after the 2020 census, West Virginia will lose a seat from its House delegation, consolidating large portions of the districts currently represented by Mooney and McKinley. Both will seek reelection. McKinley was one of the 13 House Republicans who recently voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, as well as one of the 35 Republicans to vote in favor of an independent Jan. 6 commission, both to the chagrin of...

WASHINGTON — A year before the polls open in the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans are already poised to flip at least five seats in the closely divided House thanks to redrawn district maps that are more distorted, more disjointed and more gerrymandered than any since the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965. The rapidly forming congressional map, one-quarter of which has taken shape as districts are redrawn this year, represents an even more extreme warping of American political architecture, with state legislators in many places moving aggressively to cement their partisan dominance. The flood of gerrymandering, carried out by...

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed a bill that aimed to forgive state-issued COVID-19 fines if the employer corrected the violation. The bill would have also required the state to refund companies that already paid fines. Whitmer vetoed House Bill 4501 on Veteran’s Day, saying it would violate the minimum requirements set by the federal government. "When a state fails to maintain the minimum standard, it loses control over enforcement of workplace standards," the Democratic governor wrote.

As public school cancellations abound across the nation, districts are citing “fatigue” and the need for teacher “mental health day[s]” as the cause for staffing shortages despite the fact that many teachers have been home for over a year due to the coronavirus, according to Fox News. Colorado Education Association President Amy Baca-Oehler told USA Today that “there’s an overwhelming sense of exhaustion” amid some Denver-area schools returning to remote learning as a way to mitigate the effects of slim staffing. “The reality is that these districts just don’t feel they have any other options than canceling school for the...

Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant has long been an outspoken voice for socialist ideals with an utter disregard for the city’s business community. She has also inserted rudeness, bullying and shoddy ethics into City Hall, which has done profound disservice to her District 3 constituency and the city. Voters should hold Sawant accountable for transgressions against civil governance and remove her from office. Ballots for a Dec. 7 recall election will start arriving in District 3 mailboxes this week, asking whether voters should remove Sawant from the council seat she has held since 2014. Voters should resoundingly vote yes. Sawant spent...
  • Record number of Americans planning to host Thanksgiving this year, finds study

Thanksgiving last year was a rather somber affair for many, as the COVID-19 pandemic had families across the country downsizing the number of guests they could have over to celebrate. This year, though, Americans appear to be making up for lost time, with a record number of people planning to host Thanksgiving celebrations in all their warm, turkey-filled glory. After conducting a survey of over 2,000 people, LendingTree found that Thanksgiving 2021 is “poised to make a comeback.” The resulting study observed a number of key findings, one of which revealed almost half of respondents (47 percent, to be exact)...

Just for the record...Just because the FDA, CDC and the Public Health Agency of Canada have found no issues with the vaccines, doesn't mean they are safe. Here's unassailable proof they aren't.We have to stop blindly trusting our trusted authorities that they are giving us good information. It isn’t warranted. We should always insist on hearing both sides of the story. We should be extremely suspicious when not a single leading medical advocate of the vaccine is willing to debate a team of qualified scientists who disagree with the narrative. For example, it is well known that Merck received approval from the...

The corgi's owner, named only as Fu, was undergoing compulsory quarantine in a nearby hotel at the time, even though she is negative for Covid and the dog was never even tested. Fu had been ordered to leave her home after positive cases were detected in her residential compound. Just hours later, CCTV footage showed two pandemic workers entering the living room wielding a crowbar and a plastic bag. One of them is heard asking: 'Did the leader say we need to settle it right here on the spot?' The other then replies: 'Yes.' He then approaches the corgi which...

The meeting is to be attended by the president, Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the defence and interior ministers as well as officials of the foreign ministry, armed forces, police, Border Guard and other services. Nato's Article 4 provides for joint consultations should a member state consider its territorial integrity, political independence or security to be under threat. A Flagler County School Board member filed a criminal complaint with her county's sheriff's office last week after discovering that a memoir about a queer writer was available in area schools. Jill Woolbright took offense at the book All Boys Aren't Blue:A Memoir-Manifesto being available at Palm Coast High School, Mantanzas High School and Buddy Taylor Middle School. "I don't have a problem with the book—I do have a problem with where the book has been placed," she told WESH. "Some child could be disturbed to read a book that they're not ready for." The Pentagon can require Oklahoma National Guard members to get the COVID-19 vaccine, despite the state’s highest-ranking military official insisting he will not mandate that members be inoculated, the Defense Department’s top spokesman said Monday. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin “has the authorities he needs to require this vaccine across the force, including the National Guard,” press secretary John Kirby told reporters. “It is a lawful order for National Guardsmen to receive the COVID vaccine. It is a lawful order,” Kirby later said. “Refusing to do that, absent an approved exemption, puts them in the same potential [for punishment] as active-duty...

An Olentangy Local School District employee of 13 years was forced to resign for comments she made linking the coronavirus to China and the country's subsequent profiting from personal protective equipment, according to a federal lawsuit filed last week. The incident in April wasn't the only time Antoinette Evans, a 68-year-old study hall aide from Delaware County, has been disciplined for disruptive speech by the district, the fifth-largest in Ohio. The lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Columbus alleges that the district and three administrators at Olentangy Liberty High School, where Evans worked, "fabricated from Evans' innocent words...

A judge on Friday rejected ex-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell’s challenge of the Pentagon’s vaccine mandate. Powell’s Texas-based group, dubbed Defending the Republic, filed a lawsuit in October on behalf of 16 active-duty service members “in support of their right to refuse” the COVID-19 vaccine. The lawsuit named Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, acting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Janet Woodcock, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro and Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth as defendants. The plaintiffs argued that the vaccine mandate imposed “unconstitutional...

Each day in many ways God tests us, or allows us to be tested. Will I believe what God says, or will I make my own judgment? Will I go along with the crowd, or will I follow truth regardless of whether anyone believes or not? Is Sigmund Freud correct when he says I need to “love myself more”, or is God correct when he says “whoever loves their life will lose it, whoever hates their life in this world will keep it unto eternal life”? Do I need Government to provide for my needs, or does God provide? Will...

The American Federation of Government Employees on Tuesday urged the Biden administration to delay the deadline for federal workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from Nov. 22 to Jan. 4. The request comes after the Biden administration pushed back the deadline for federal contractors to get vaccinated from Dec. 8 to Jan. 4 to align with the vaccine-or-test mandate for large businesses. The labor union, which represents around 700,000 federal and Washington, D.C., government workers, said it is unfair that the deadline for federal employees was not delayed as well. “This double standard has caused confusion and distress among federal...

Biden is stumbling, out of touch and weak. Two of his major initiatives, at the border and in Afghanistan, created completely avoidable catastrophes. He has given no sense of being in control of events or even his own party. He is an accidental president who is running smack into his own inadequacies and absurd pretensions. No one in Washington over the last four decades ever said that Joe Biden was the just the man with the foresight, wisdom and deft political touch to lead the free world. No, he was an average senatorial bloviator whose three presidential campaigns flamed out...

After the number of U.S. workers voluntarily quitting their jobs reached a record high in September, White House Council of Economic Advisers member Jared Bernstein framed the labor crunch as a "good sign," saying that employees now have more leverage to negotiate better-paying roles. More than 4.4 million employees left their jobs last month, the highest figure in two decades, and a rise of about 164,000 from the last record set in August of 4.3 million, according to the Labor Department's monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released Friday. As employers contemplate raising wages to attract workers amid their...
