Afghanistan’s professional class of men and women, part of a generation that came of age under the shield of the U.S. military, are weighing the danger of rapidly advancing Taliban forces. Many are packing their bags... Long before President Biden announced the U.S. withdrawal in April, hundreds of thousands of Afghans had fled to Europe, Australia and the U.S. Now, many of the well-educated people who prospered in the new Afghanistan and hadn’t dreamed of leaving have also concluded that staying put is no longer an option.

CNN published an interesting story today about European environmentalism and the law of unintended consequences. It’s a lengthy story but the core of it is that back in 2009 the European Union embraced a plan (the Renewable Energy Directive) to reduced its reliance on fossil fuels and instead depend on renewable energy sources. In most people’s minds that would refer to solar panels, windmills and maybe hydroelectric power. But one of the sources specifically cited in the document was biomass, i.e. wood pellets. The European Union reasoned that the burning of woodpellets was better than the burning of coal since...

The Extremist Hymn (To the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"") Mine eyes have seen the horror of the militant extreme. I have heard about their tennis shoes and eyes that madly gleam. They are armed and more fanatical than you would ever dream. I'll track down every one! CHORUS Glory be, there goes another!*** Glory be, there goes another! Glory be, there goes another! I'll track down every one! Extremists are the people to the right of Gore Vidal For they don't believe in giving in to Socialism's goals. They don't even favor foreign aid for Yugoslavs...

An Arizona judge on Wednesday questioned the claim that the public does not have the right to know who is funding the audit of the Maricopa County vote tally in the 2020 presidential election. The controversial audit, a Republican state Senate-led effort to determine the validity of former President Donald Trump's loss to Joe Biden in the previously red state, has been criticized over its methods and undisclosed sources of funding.Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Michael Kemp questioned Kory Langhofer, an attorney for Senate President Karen Fann who has resisted calls to release donor names. The judge noted Fann hired...

The primary purpose of these financial statements is to report how the annual budget deficit relates to the change in the government’s cash and other monetary assets, as well as federal debt and interest payable. It explains why the budget deficit normally would not result in an equivalent change in the government’s cash and other monetary assets. These statements reconcile the budget deficit to the change in cash and other monetary assets during the fiscal year. They also serve to explain how the budget deficits were financed. These statements show the adjustments for non-cash outlays included in the budget, and...

Could data harvested from millions of pregnant women pave the way for genetically enhanced super-soldiers? According to a recent Reuters investigation, BGI Group, the manufacturers of a popular prenatal test, is working with the Chinese military towards that very goal. BGI group offers a test called Nifty (“Non-Invasive Fetal TrisomY”), which is offered in more than 50 countries and is used to look for genetic abnormalities such as Down’s syndrome early on in a pregnancy. According to Reuters, more than 8 million women have taken these tests, and BGI has used the genetic data it has collected to help the...

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging parents to get their eligible children vaccinated for the Chinese coronavirus prior to the fall 2021 school year, despite lingering concerns about the possible development of heart inflammation conditions in young people who receive the mRNA vaccines. “Parents: Prevent #COVID19 from spreading at school. Get kids 12+ fully vaccinated before school begins,” the federal health agency said Friday, adding that children who are not fully vaccinated should wear a mask indoors. In areas where COVID-19 is spreading, kids who are not fully vaccinated should #WearAMask indoors, on the school...

SAN JOSE (KPIX) — On Friday, Santa Clara County health leaders announced a drop in its COVID-19 death toll by nearly a quarter after it refined its approach in reporting the data. The county reported that it had reviewed each COVID-19 fatality and was only counting those whose cause of death was from the virus and not those who tested positive for COVID-19 at the time of death but did not necessarily die from the virus. The new approach meant that the death toll dropped by 22%, specifically from 2,201 to 1,696 deaths.

Australia was the envy of the world for much of 2020, but it is not anymore. Having endured the first year of Covid-19 with aplomb, the country is firmly in the grip of the virus once again. As London and New York open up, Sydney is in lockdown. Even outside the nation’s most populous city, travel restrictions mean many Australians are unable to move within the country. More than 30,000 residents also remain stranded overseas, with borders closed and no obvious way to return home anytime soon.

A police officer in New York state is on administrative leave after a video showed him punching a woman in the face after she tried to bite him while under arrest in Walmart. Multiple cameras captured the violent incident inside the East Syracuse Walmart on July 4. The Dewitt Police Department said 22-year-old Tajenik Byrd pepper-sprayed several people, including children, when a fight broke out in the store. It's unclear what led to the altercation. During the confrontation, a woman in a black shirt, identified as 26-year-old Tyreana Edmonds, began arguing with store employees and allegedly hit them in the...

The Department of Justice, (DOJ) dropped a cool $6.1 million on a database to keep all the evidence related to the January 6 Capitol protest that turned ugly. No word on whether or not there will be a database for a year’s worth of apparatchik violence sparked by the death of George Floyd. Spoiler alert, there won’t be. $6.1 million is just for starts. That figure could explode to $25.9 million, according to the database listing which The Epoch Times reviewed. That’s a lot of cheddar to arrest those insurrectionist grannies. Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, LLP, got the contract in...

Leading up to the summer months when Chicago historically sees its highest levels of violence, Mayor Lori Lightfoot vowed to take an “all hands on deck” approach to stopping the city’s shootings. But even as the city canceled days off for Chicago cops and forced them to work 12 hour days, two of the mayor’s top aides took time off leading up to the Fourth of July holiday, where at least 108 people were shot, 17 fatally. Some aldermen criticized the absences. Lightfoot chief of staff Sybil Madison was out of the office on Thursday and Friday, Madison told city...

On June 6, the widow of British-American computer magnate John McAfee went on a Twitter rant, blaming the corporate media a “malignant cancer” for “fabricating” the narrative of her husband’s prison suicide. “Before I or his attorneys were even aware of his death, the story of John’s’suicide’ was fully written and given to the public,” the statement stated. Janice McAfee stated in the Twitter caption of the post accompanying the declaration, “I cannot begin to convey this pain I am feeling.” “This is how everyone who actually loved John feels. Since the news of John’s death, I’ve been trying to...

You may recall the story of Ka’Mauri Harrison, the Louisiana elementary school student who was suspended from school last year after a teacher briefly spotted a BB gun in Harrison’s room during a virtual class session. Harrison had simply picked up the BB gun from the floor of his bedroom and put it away so that his younger brother wouldn’t trip over it, but the mere sight of the BB gun through the boy’s laptop camera was enough to cause the Jefferson Parish School District to claim that Harrison had violated the district’s weapons policy, and they barred from attending...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As news events made headlines across the United States for months last year — particularly the 2020 election, the coronavirus pandemic and racism in America — priests’ homilies did not mention these events nearly as much as did sermons by Protestant preachers, according to a report issued July 8 by the Pew Research Center. Compared to their Protestant counterparts — whatever the stripe, be it mainline, evangelical or historically Black — Catholics brought up the rear when it came to sharing at least one sermon about the election last fall. Overall, 67 percent of churches did, but...

In Denton v. City of El Paso, Texas, (5th Cir., July 6, 2021), the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals remanded the case to a Texas federal district court ordering it to grant a preliminary injunction barring El Paso from prohibiting religious proselytizing at the weekly outdoor El Paso Art and Farmers Market. The city's rules bar fundraising, political campaigning and religious proselytizing from the market. The court held that these exclusions are content-based, and concluded: It is unclear whether the City has asserted a compelling government interest. We need not decide this issue ......

Former Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann told "Watters’ World" Saturday that the federal government wants Americans to "check our Bill of Rights" at the door when it comes to COVID vaccines. MICHELE BACHMANN: I'm glad that this is an issue, and I want to urge all the viewers to go out and buy "No Trespassing" signs at the local hardware store – "No solicitor" signs. Affix them to your front doors, put them right out by your front stoop, end of your driveway, because the government has zero business to do this, zero right. And what they're wanting all of us...
