How failure on Covid-19 has exposed the dangerous delusion of “Fortress Australia”

Australia was the envy of the world for much of 2020, but it is not anymore. Having endured the first year of Covid-19 with aplomb, the country is firmly in the grip of the virus once again. As London and New York open up, Sydney is in lockdown. Even outside the nation’s most populous city, travel restrictions mean many Australians are unable to move within the country. More than 30,000 residents also remain stranded overseas, with borders closed and no obvious way to return home anytime soon.

Lockdowns just delay the inevitable. You can’t hide forever.

Why? Non-essential workers or travels are the only things locked down. What does that say for their usefulness, or need to be out and free to move in our society?

Australia’s strategy made sense if it was to buy them time to get the vaccines. For whatever reason, their vaccines are not coming as expected.

Australia is more like China nowadays with 200 dollar fines for not wearing masks and 5500 dollar a day fines for breaking the rules.

There has been just 1 death in Australia so far this year and for that you lock the country down and forbid 30Kk people the right to come home? That is insane. New Zealand is even crazier.

Australia, Viet Nam, Singapore and other countries have done very well protecting their citizens with lockdowns and other social means of reducing the spread of the virus.

They have been very much more strict than we have.

But, eventually one has to open back up.

If the DC regime feels the political need, the United States will be locked downed before or during the ‘22 election. Forget WIN buttons, the regime probably feels a nice six month lockdown will suffice to deal with their hyper inflation.

We haven't been very strict in South Australia, schools been back for 1 1/2 years, only a couple of days of lock-down, only masks for a few days and then, mainly only in hospitals, etc. And we have one of the lowest rates per capita in Australia. The areas that have been the most strict and most lock-downs like Melbourne and now Sydney, have had the most cases. Where we have been strict is not allowing people to cross state borders when the Covid is in a particular area. We also have closed the country's borders. We also have a very good tracking system.

We have plenty of vaccine, Astra Zeneca, but the media and some far left government officials, like Queensland Premier and Medical Officer have scared off the people from getting the the vaccines.

AstraZeneca is a good vaccine but there’s no point in getting it if you’re under 40 (due to risk of blood clots) unless you have preexisting conditions. Vaccinate the vulnerable population and open up things up.
