If anyone doubts the racially based sting that comes with such insults to one's professional endeavors, just read the emails that rolled in to The Times after publication of our article. One reader said the Ovation reaction was just an example of "Asian victimhood."

The family of a California man who died in a taco-eating contest is taking legal action against the event’s organizers — claiming their negligence led him to choke to death. Marshall Hutchings, 18, alleges in a suit filed Monday that his father, Dana Hutchings, 41, was not made aware of the risks and danger associated with the competition at a Fresno Grizzlies game, the Fresno Bee reported The elder Hutchings had not participated in any similar events before he entered the amateur competition on Aug. 13, 2019, at Chukchansi Park, the suit argues.

Alcee Hastings, a Democratic congressman from Florida, has died at age 84, Fox News has confirmed. He suffered from pancreatic cancer. Hastings had been a federal judge and was impeached and convicted by the Senate in the late 1980s. But he then ran for Congress and won in 1992. Hastings represented Florida's 20th Congressional District, which includes Democratic areas around Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. He was the dean of the Florida congressional delegation as the longest-serving member from the Sunshine State.

A hotel worker in Mexican tourist hotspot Tulum died after cops pinned her to the ground with a knee on her neck in a case being compared to the harrowing death of George Floyd. Victoria Salazar, a 36-year-old mother of two teenage daughters, died March 27 when four officers arrested her for disorderly conduct, with an autopsy showing her neck had been broken.

The Arkansas House on Tuesday voted to override Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s (R) veto on the legislation that would ban gender reassignment surgeries and other treatments for transgender youth.
