This week Robert Mueller emerged from his hobbit hole, saw his shadow, and ensured there would be at least six more weeks (if not six more months) of agony for Nancy Pelosi, and more microphone mugging by Jerry Nadler, aka Jabba the Hutt on Weight Watchers. I’m checking my evolutionary biology textbooks, because I’m starting to suspect that groundhogs are genetically related to swamp rats—Washington DC’s most conspicuous rodent.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s ability to build new toll roads may be temporarily stymied by opposition from state leaders, but the agency is keeping busy with major ongoing projects. While the great majority of its spending is on expanding roadway capacity for cars, CTRMA Executive Director Mike Heiligenstein emphasized the millions the agency is investing in bike and pedestrian infrastructure in a Tuesday presentation to the Travis County Commissioners Court. The $108 million construction of State Highway 45 SW, linking MoPac Expressway with FM 1626, will be accompanied by a 4.5-mile shared-use path, along with pedestrian and bicycle...

A final plan for tolls for users along the future Interstate 10 Bridge and Bayway could be known in July, a state transportation official said Friday. It will be unveiled ahead of the August release of the final environmental impact statement on the entire $2.1 billion project. But at least one state lawmaker says more time is going to be needed to hash out tolls and their impact on local motorists. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for the experts and the work being done by the state DOT,” said state Sen. Chris Elliott, R-Daphne. “But it’s probably fair...

Getting the Spiritual Gifts Back By Philip Cottraux Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against which there is no law. Every Christian should produce these nine spiritual fruits in their lives, making us the most effective witnesses we can be. But there’s a distinct difference between these and the spiritual gifts, which not everyone will have, as they are divided up among the body of Christ. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will (1 Corinthians 12:11). During...

Taylor Swift was once apolitical — famously so. That changed in October 2018 when she made a bold and rare move to support Democratic nominees in the midterm elections. At the stroke of midnight on June 1, 2019, which kicked off LGBTQ Pride Month, Swift released an open letter to one of her senators, Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander, in support of the Equality Act and in rejection of President Donald Trump’s stance on the matter. “I personally reject the President’s stance that his administration, ‘supports equal treatment of all,’ but that the Equality Act, ‘in its current form is filled with...

Some experts estimate four per cent of the population are not aware that the man they call ‘dad’ is not in fact their biological father. But Ian Cumming, Chief executive of Health Education England, said he thinks the figure could be as high as 10 per cent during a presentation at the Hay Literature and Arts Festival in Wales. INTEGRITY: THE HEART OF NAVY CORE VALUES by a Submariner The following essay was written by a young enlisted submariner as a disciplinary assignment after a Captain's Mast for taking a shortcut in a maintenance procedure. Both the author and his Commanding Officer have agreed to its publication. Integrity is the heart and the very essence of each Navy Core Value, but more importantly, it is the foundation on which every aspect of submarine operations is built. Integrity must be the standard instilled within the innermost heart of every man who takes a submarine to...

The world has been watching China’s social credit system with grim fascination, a real-life compulsory Orwellian horror in which citizens’ lives are determined by their social score. Daily activities are monitored and tracked, then distilled into a single number according to rules set by the government. Intended to be fully implanted by 2020, its goal is to “standardize the assessment of citizens’ and businesses’ economic and social reputation.” Standardize. That word alone should send shivers down your spine. Let the meaning sink in: standardize. That means conformity is enshrined and individuality and innovation are attacked. When criticized about its draconian...

**SNIP** Calls made to Rockeymoore Cummings were described as “weird” and “creepy” by Tom Anderson, the director of the National Legal and Policy Center’s Government Integrity Project. “We called the phone number for the nonprofit and she answered it like her personal cell. Then every time we asked a question, she just kept repeating ‘And how can I help you?’ And then finally hung up. It was so creepy,” Anderson told The DCNF. “We pointed out that it was required by law, and her response was ‘And how can I help you?’ It was so weird,” he added. “It’s against...

Governor Greg Abbott has officially signed legislation banning red light cameras across Texas. House Bill 1631 prohibits the use of "photographic traffic signal enforcement systems". It was proposed by North Texas Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford). Gov. Abbott signed the bill on Saturday after it passed through the House and Senate this legislative session. Even though red light cameras are now banned in the Lone Star State, you may continue to see them in some place for the next few years because the bill allows cities that could be penalized by suddenly breaking a vendor's contract to honor the contract until...
