Fellow Americans, there comes a time every mans life when we must give up ourselves before we are worthy to recieve. There comes a time in this war on terror when in order to protect liberty, we have to give it up in the mean time for safty. That's right folks. Today, Americans have forsaken the creator for the creation and have decided that they would value our "civil liberties" than protecting western civilization and rich white people from the tender mercies of radical Islamic terrorists. Selfish liberals insist and whine that Bush has no right to spy on Americans and ban certain undesirables from using our airlines. They demand the right to criticize and blaspheeme the name of our supreme commander and cheef George W Bush while forcing multiculturalism down our throats and praising Bill Clinton. We all know however that it's totally Clintons fult for everything bad in america. Now we are at war and we must make a decision. support the safty of America and defeat terrorists, or support civil liberties and give victory to the enemy. Its all because of Bill Clinton and civil liberties that we are in this war so it is only fair that we give it up. no one said life was supposed to be fair you liberal crybabys. Dont give me that rubbish about equality and diversity. WE ARE AT WAR! If your not for Bush and against civil liberties your a terrorist! Your probably even a Communist and should be detained. Therefore fellow Americans we must throw all of our trust and resources behind George W Bush and behind this war with no ifs ands or buts. Be sure to report any and all detractors and freedom supporters to your local military and never question. Bush knows what hes doing and we will win this war once and for all. Yeah, the suit's material would have to have some kind of special characteristics.

It doesn't look too practical from a military standpoint. Any successful heat-shedding would make you stand out in some frequency. Of course, leaving a trail of footprints across the desert would sorta mark you, too.

It was obviously primarily a survival suit.

I suspect that your ideas and mine would diverge about how to effectively use personal armor in a combat situation. We could probably come to an accommodation about the subsuit, though -- the part that keeps the guy cool.

body armor is there to keep you from getting seriously abraded, concussed, or punctured by the most common battlefield factors... without getting you killed by wearing it. that's the long and short of it.

once lightweight and POWERFUL mobile power sources (converters, engines, batteries, nukes, whatever) are developed, THEN we can consider turning armor into some kind of wearable tank.

I think they also made a short-lived animated series/motion picture from the LOTR back in the '70s.

They explained all of the implausible scenarios for LOTR adaptations in the extra features of one of the LOTR DVDs-I forget which part of the trilogy it was-and why Peter Jackson was the perfect person to bring this vision to fruition.

You can design the best suit there is, and grunts will take it off and ditch it if it's uncomfortable - believe me. They'll take their chances rather than overheat.

My idea of the ultimate battlefield protection is a ballistic shield mounted to the left arm that provides blast and projectile protection in a frontal prone position, that allows for firing. A portable defensive position. Elbow to knuckles, head high - but not too heavy. Upright the shield covers the chest/abdomen and left arm (with elbow bent left hand holding weapon).

I regularly test shoot ballistic inserts to determine how ventilated scale configurations would work - but news of the P90 has pretty well settled that.

That's when I began thinking about a "soft" flexible shield too thick to be practical for body, but mounted on the left arm. Thick enough to defeat small frag and the new P90 AP. Mated with a thick flexible back shield to defeat the new proximity 20mm small arms. Partial front (liver, heart, lung) to aid heat loss.

Cargo should be shifted to the outer legs, using ballistic nylon or soft kevlar material. Imagine your designs related to prone use.

Good morning! It's 31 here, clear skies. A better night with Vlad than usual; his breathing was clearer.

Anoreth, Tom, and I all got on the scale this morning. That's the shrieking that might have briefly drowned out your warbler song :-). We're starting a weight-loss contest with OldTax-lady, although we haven't worked out the details yet. Good thing it's almost Lent!

The results might have been better had not all three of you gotten on the scale together! ;)

I've dropped another 1/2 lb, so I'm pleased with myself.

Glad to hear that he's sleeping better. Sounds like he was swallowing air.
