A quick-thinking forklift driver ruined an Ohio man's plans to steal a car by lifting the vehicle 20 feet in the air with the suspect still inside. Only when he was trapped up there did they take the time to call the police. It all went down in October at Arlington Auto Wrecking in Akron, Ohio. This was the third incident they had with this guy, but when they got him this time, even the 911 operators were cracking up when an employee called in the situation: “So, he’s still in the car about 20 feet in the air in...

A quick-thinking driver has foiled an alleged car thief by using a forklift to trap her inside the vehicle she was attempting to steal. Brendan Mills came home to find a woman inside his red Volkswagen Polo at his Waterford West property, south of Brisbane on June 5. By sheer good fortune he had left the forklift parked beside the car, with the forks facing towards it. So he immediately jumped into his forklift and hoisted the car up six feet in the air, trapping the alleged car thief inside before calling Queensland police. The alleged car thief was unable...

A FARMER who flipped a car off his land with a forklift has been cleared after arguing he was "defending" his castle. Robert Hooper, 57, was captured using the machine to launch the £16,000 Vauxhall Corsa at his farm in Newbiggin-in-Teesdale, County Durham. Passenger Charlie Burns, 21, who had downed up to seven bottles of beer, was knocked to the ground by the tractor's lifting forks. But Hooper insisted: "I felt threatened and an Englishman's home is his castle, and my castle starts at that front gate." The hill farmer has now been cleared of dangerous driving and criminal damage....

  • Worker fired for using forklift on candy machine

MILFORD, Iowa —A 27-year-old man has lost his job and Iowa unemployment benefits for using a forklift on a malfunctioning vending machine. The Des Moines Register says Robert McKevitt had deposited money in a vending machine last fall, but the candy bar he wanted wouldn't fall. State unemployment records say his banging and rocking the machine didn't work, so McKevitt commandeered a forklift, picked up the machine at least six times and dropped it on the floor at the Polaris Industries' warehouse in Milford. Three candy bars fell. In a ruling released last month, a judge denied McKevitt's claim for...

Robert McKevitt's dollar failed him, so he used a little force (Newser) – It's a story straight out of an episode of Seinfeld, just with an ending both more—and then less—satisfying. Last fall, a man from Spirit Lake, Iowa, decided he wanted to snack on a Twix while working his warehouse job at Polaris Industries. So Robert McKevitt inserted a dollar in the vending machine, punched in the code for the candy, and watched it get stuck midair on the spiral hook. He inserted another dollar in his quest to free it; no luck. He banged and shook the...

PALM SPRINGS — A man died Tuesday after he was crushed by a tortilla oven behind an out-of-business supermarket. The man was part of a three-person crew attempting to load the 3,000-pound commercial oven onto a truck when it fell off a manual forklift, said Palm Springs Lt. Sal Abruscato. "We do not suspect any foul play at all," Abruscato said. "This is a horrible accident." The oven was one of many items auctioned off at the supermarket Monday, he said. The person who bought it hired the crew to deliver it.

This happened in Russia, and from what I understand it is supposed to be a warehouse for a vodka bottling company, but I never see any fluids from broken bottles so I question that. Either way, this guy had a very bad day at work. No knowledge if he was hurt or not. If it was me, and it was vodka warehouse, and I was not too injured... Well they may find an empty bottle or two in my lap.

I know there are a bunch of construction hands out there that might need to take heed to this. There was a fatality out in SC this week when a construction worker was driving a forklift wearing a safety harness and lanyard. He was buckled in with the seat belt as required but his lanyard fell out the forklift and got caught up in the back tire. It pulled him out of the seat with such force it bent the upright of the ROPS canopy.Good safety topic for all those in this industry. Keep thos lanyards close and secured.
