Safety Alert!! (Vanity worth reading)
work safety bulletin ^ | 05/01/07 | eastforker

I know there are a bunch of construction hands out there that might need to take heed to this. There was a fatality out in SC this week when a construction worker was driving a forklift wearing a safety harness and lanyard. He was buckled in with the seat belt as required but his lanyard fell out the forklift and got caught up in the back tire. It pulled him out of the seat with such force it bent the upright of the ROPS canopy.Good safety topic for all those in this industry. Keep thos lanyards close and secured.

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: forklift; notthinking; safetyharness
Just a thought, always remember, it can happen to you.

And don’t go using them as a weapon either! Like those uscrupulous ironworkers paid by the villain to kill our hero atop the scaffolding of the then-undergoing-restoration Lady Liberty in “Remo Williams - The Adventure Begins.”

Don’t know if true, but heard about a fellow who was run over by a piece of equip when he didn’t hear the backup alarm because he was wearing earplugs and wasn’t looking out for himself.

Good point eastforker, better safe than sorry.

I use a ratcheting lanyard with a safety harness when climbing out of the Hi-lift when accessing the tail of aircraft.

Through the ridicule it can be a lifesaver.

Can you imagine driving down the road thinking you are getting the job done safely when you are snatched out of the seat and............stretched beyond all recognition.

Back-up alarms are like 97 decibels.
The best earplugs only reduce about 30 decibels
I’m half deaf, and when wearing the highest NRR rated ear protection, and I have no problem hearing back-up alarms.

But in a busy construcion site, those beeps are everywhere and it’s possible to not realize you are in the path.
