Do not ask me about euthanasia. I am not interested. I was contacted by a woman who called us on behalf of her elderly Aunt who was receiving treatment in a hospital in London Ontario. The Aunt wanted to know if there was anything that could be done to stop the MAiD team from asking her if she wanted MAiD. The woman told me that her Aunt was asked, if she wanted euthanasia twice, in a pretty persuasive manner, and she said NO. The woman told me that her Aunt was very upset because the person in the bed next...

Window panes were also reportedly damaged by the explosion, which occurred in a building passageway. No information is yet available regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. Parts of the station were closed off as police continued investigating the scene. William Tolliver, one of three men involved in a 2020 mass shooting in downtown Seattle, has been released. The Washington State Department of Corrections confirmed to KIRO Newsradio that Tolliver was released this week. In January of 2020, Tolliver and two other men got into a gunfight near 3rd Ave. and Pine St. that was sparked by a Facebook post insulting a friend of Tolliver’s. Tanya Jackson, a 50-year-old woman, was killed, and seven others were hurt, including a 9-year-old boy who was shot in the femur while walking with his family after a visit to the Pacific Science Center....

The elderly grimace, hobbling on crutches, and wide-eyed children stare, cradling chickens carried from homes they were forced to leave behind. "It feels good to be in my own country," 35-year-old Nazia says, just minutes after she crosses from Pakistan, where she was born, into Afghanistan. The Torkham crossing, known as "Zero Point", is where one hard life ends and another begins. "But I've never been to Afghanistan before and many people here don't even have enough bread to eat," Nazia sighs as she heads, two of her children in tow, toward registration counters festooned with white and black Taliban...

Daily Readings from the USCCBAfter Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them. Luke 4:38–39In today’s Gospel, we encounter the first mention of Simon—whose name Jesus would later change to Peter—in Luke’s account. Simon was likely present in the synagogue and witnessed Jesus cast out a demon from a possessed man. With a simple command, “Be quiet! Come out of him!”, Jesus revealed His...

Austria’s government is beginning to work on a proposal to constitutionally ban “political Islam,” after Chancellor Christian Stocker called for the legislation and Integration and Europe Minister Claudia Bauer said she would draw up a proposal for the coalition partners. *** Stocker first raised the possible legislation in an interview with Heute on August 28. The chancellor expressed his intention to implement a constitutional law on political Islam, which he called “incompatible with democracy and Western values.” In a statement, Stocker said, “I do not want our children and grandchildren to grow up in an Islamic state.”Stocker argued that everyone...

On Friday evening, Booster 21 fired all 33 engines. SpaceX says: full duration. But the burn was 10 seconds shorter than on the last two flights, and SpaceX doesn't say why. I have a theory, and it tells us a lot about what one launch really costs a pad. Ship 40 is sailing the wrong way around the planet, on purpose. Louisiana has already started work on its 100 billion dollar Starbase. And Flight 14? Two weeks out. What did SpaceX just quietly change, and why? Mr Justice McKendrick has ruled that providing clinically assisted nutrition and hydration to sustain the life of a 28-year-old man suffering from a prolonged disorder of consciousness is contrary to his best interests and should cease. The judgment, released today following a 4-day trial last week, overrules the unanimous view of the young man’s family and all his treating clinicians that the life-sustaining treatment should continue, agreed at a ‘best interests meeting’ in March. The case is subject to draconian reporting restrictions under the so-called Transparency Order, which Mr Justice McKendrick has ordered to remain in force until the death...

Seven weekends deep into its theatrical run, Christopher Nolan’s mythic epic has spent the entire summer defying the usual rules of box office gravity. What started as a genuinely risky bet, a nearly three-hour, R-rated adaptation of ancient Greek poetry, has instead become one of the defining theatrical events of the year, and it’s still finding new ways to surprise industry watchers. That surprise continued into the Labor Day stretch, with ‘The Odyssey’ climbing back to the top of the domestic box office chart, reclaiming the number one position it had briefly ceded in the weeks prior. The film’s ability...
  • Wearable Patch Could Deliver Automatic Aid During a Fentanyl Overdose

A patch smaller than a penny could one day save the lives of people experiencing a fentanyl overdose – even when no one else is there to help. Researchers in Virginia Tech’s Department of Biological Systems Engineering have developed a wearable microneedle patch that can detect fentanyl in the body and automatically release naloxone, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. The technology could change how opioid overdoses are treated by making lifesaving intervention possible without relying on a bystander. The patch, called the iNal patch, was developed by a research team led by Wujin Sun, assistant professor of...

Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed loved the Green New Deal, which is economic poison for his state’s economy. That’s why he tried to bury his tweets supporting it, though it’s not shocking given his far-left views. Okay, it’s not the most earth-shattering news that El-Sayed is a green socialist, but he’s been haggled over his support for Hasan Piker and his virulent antisemitic views, and the concerns of Jewish voters, which his campaign has handled miserably. Black and Jewish voters are the two largest minority voting blocs in the state, and they hate this guy. But there’s another headache...

There are several ways that wars end. –One side conquers and annexes the other. –One side surrenders and gives up some of their land, treasure, and authority in a peace treaty. –One side has a domestic change of government and the new one befriends the other side. –Things reach a stalemate and the shooting stops in an ongoing, uncomfortable sort of permanent ceasefire. The USA-Iran War has never fit comfortably into such normal classifications. During the first 47 years of the war, the Twelver regime of Iran didn’t just attack the United States, but attacked countless countries and interests all...

“Trials testing an experimental medication have been urgently halted following the death of multiple participants. Swiss drug manufacturer Novartis said Tuesday that it paused eight clinical trials of the cell therapy rap-cel after the deaths of three patients. The halt began on August 24 after Novartis was notified of three cases of a rare but life-threatening allergic reaction called immune effector cell-associated hemophagocytic syndrome (IEC-HS), the company spokesperson said.”

Hunter Biden identified as a “little bit gay” in a recent podcast interview dominated by talk about his sexuality. The former first son, 56, who’s married to Melissa Cohen, made the revealing remarks on an Aug. 16 episode of the Luke Beasley Show podcast. Beasley asked Biden, “Are you gay?” early on in the interview. Former President Joe Biden’s son replied: “Only a little bit.” Beasley then asked if Hunter was “more or less than 50 percent” gay – and the ex-first son said, “48.6 percent.” The podcaster then wanted to know if he’d be Hunter’s “type.” “A little bit...

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday complained President Donald Trump has failed to fulfill an 11-month-old promise to restore millions in federal funding to New York’s homeland security operations. Trump said on Truth Social last year he had reversed cuts that took New York’s federal counterterrorism budget from $287 million down to $30 million, but Hochul said Tuesday New York was still $87 million short. “Shame on you for withholding this money, not delivering it to me right now, 10 days before we honor those lives that were lost on 9/11,” Hochul said during a news conference...
