MOSCOW, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Authorities declared a state of emergency on Wednesday in a western region of Russia where Ukraine said it had struck a weapons arsenal overnight. The local branch of the Emergencies Ministry said an emergency had been declared in one district of the Bryansk region following "detonations of explosive objects". Ukraine's military said it had struck an arsenal storing ammunition for missiles and artillery weapons, including those delivered from North Korea, as well as guided aerial bombs. Russia and North Korea have denied weapons transfers between the two countries but vowed to boost military ties. The...

Explanation: What's happening at the center of spiral galaxy M106? A swirling disk of stars and gas, M106's appearance is dominated by blue spiral arms and red dust lanes near the nucleus, as shown in the featured image taken from the Kuwaiti desert. The core of M106 glows brightly in radio waves and X-rays where twin jets have been found running the length of the galaxy. An unusual central glow makes M106 one of the closest examples of the Seyfert class of galaxies, where vast amounts of glowing gas are thought to be falling into a central massive black hole....

Russia has moved to ban Discord, a popular platform for real-time communication, drawing ire from the Russian military that has extensively used the app to coordinate units on the battlefield in Ukraine. The ban, announced by the internet regulator Roskomnadzor on Tuesday, highlights a glaring technology lapse within the Russian military. More than 2½ years into the war, it has failed to implement a secure, dependable Russian-made communications system, instead relying on privately owned platforms such as Discord and Telegram. The ban has also renewed a wider debate about how Russia’s bureaucratic machine keeps frustrating the military effort. Pro-invasion military...

Day #30 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the course of several months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so this will probably be done by early November. And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity...

A study released this week states that 3 percent of American high schoolers now identify as “transgender.” The survey published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday found that in addition to the 3.3 percent of high schoolers who think they are “trans,” another 2.2 percent are questioning their gender identity. Teenagers who indicated that they are transgender or questioning their gender identity experienced higher levels of bullying at school, the survey found. The survey included more than 20,000 high school students from public and private schools across the country. The 2023 study was the first to...

CV NEWS FEED // The Colorado Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed against a Christian baker who refused to make a pro-transgender cake, on the grounds that the plaintiff did not follow the proper filing process. NATIONAL MOLDY CHEESE DAY National Moldy Cheese Day is a unique holiday that is observed each year on October 9 that celebrates delicious cheeses. #MoldyCheeseDay A cheesemonger is a person who specializes in cheeses, butter, and other dairy products. They may take umbrage at the ordinary person's offense of moldy cheese. Well, depending on the type of mold, of course. Some cheese molds, red or brown-tinged molds, for example, are offensive. Toss those bacteria-contaminated moldy cheeses in the garbage quickly and move along to the grey, blue, or green colored moldy cheeses in the fridge instead. Like a sommelier pairs...

The Kremlin confirmed that former President Trump while in office sent Russian President Vladimir Putin COVID-19 testing devices during the height of the pandemic, as was revealed in a new book by journalist Bob Woodward, Bloomberg reported. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that the tests had been sent but he also denied the book’s claims that the two leaders had spoken by phone several times since Trump left office, Bloomberg reported. “We also sent equipment at the beginning of the pandemic,” Peskov said in a written response to the news site when asked about the book. “But about the...

Democrats are now taking on water in Wisconsin. It’s no longer an outlier: Wisconsin is in play, and incumbent Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, who has hidden from national Democrats, knows this well, too. The national polling is irrelevant here, as her team’s internals show Ms. Baldwin ahead by only two points. The Cook Political Report reclassified the race as a “toss-up,” not the best of news, with less than a month before Election Day. Now, Democrats are scrambling, but this news out of Wisconsin also highlights a brutal part of Kamala Harris’ operation: she flat-out cannot connect with working people....

Of late, the democrat powers that be are reading the tea leaves and have gone into a panic. Up to now, Harris has taken a page out of the Biden playbook and been cloistered in the basement avoiding anything that resembles a real interview. It's not working, and they know it. Vice President Kamala Harris has emulated her former running mate’s 2020 presidential campaign in minimizing her time in the spotlight and carefully managing her few public media interactions with friendly outlets. Some Democrats are increasingly worried that what worked for President Joe Biden, may not yield similar fruit for...

The Colorado Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit against Evangelical Christian baker Jack Phillips over his refusal on religious grounds to make a cake celebrating a trans-identified individual's so-called gender transition. In a decision released Tuesday, the state's highest court ruled 4-3 to dismiss the lawsuit against the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop filed by Autumn Scardina, a biological male who identifies as a woman. Justice Melissa Hart authored the majority opinion, arguing that Scardina's discrimination claim was not properly processed before the lawsuit against Phillips was filed. "Could the district court properly consider the claims of discrimination presented here? In...

Every solution to our national problems begins with defeating the Left. The problem with solving problems is that once they are solved, no one needs the solver anymore. The better kinds of problems are recurring problems that ensure customer retention, employing plumbers, locksmiths and police officers, but the best kind are the completely unsolvable problems. And those are the only kinds of problems that the Left wants to solve. Given enough human ingenuity and technological development, most problems can concievably be addressed and that is why the Left has to contrive to make them unsolvable by either causing the problem...

If Trump had been acknowledged as the winner, his administration would have continued to be hamstrung by the RINOs, uniparty members, and those intent on sabotage - who populated his administration. Those folks are long gone, and this time, they will not be invited back. Second-term 45 would have been successful, but 47 will be that on jet fuel.
