Amid Thursday morning coverage of the air attacks in Ukraine by Russia, CNN aired an Applebee’s ad — side-by-side with the headline “Russia Invades Ukraine” – and reactions were not favorable. In response, Applebee’s suspended its ads on the network, telling Forbes.com it was “deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine.” “When we were made aware that our ad was placed in this manner, we immediately reached out to CNN to pause our advertising on their network,” Applebee’s said in the statement. “It never should have aired, and we are disappointed in the actions of the network.”

Alec Baldwin reflected on the Buddha's teachings of living a truthful life on Thursday, just hours after his role in the "Rust" shooting was called into question once again. The 63-year-old actor took to his social media accounts on Thursday to share a reflective post which included a quote from the Buddha. He did not share the origin of the quote. On Twitter, he quoted the Budda saying, "In the same way, Rahula, when anyone feels no shame in telling a deliberate lie, there is no evil, I tell you, they will not do. Thus, Rahula, you should train yourself,...

I am aware that Kiev is falling to the Russians. I’m also aware that our global elites have determined that we are now to pronounce it ‘Keeve’ and spell it ‘Kyiv.’ Modern day elites always tend to focus on the most superficial facets of a situation, especially when they’ve no clue what else to do. Jean Carré, the muzzle-wearing “special presidential envoy for climate” – whatever the hell that is.Case in point:Former Secretary of State John Kerry appeared for an interview to express his regret that the war between Ukraine and Russia is distracting people from climate change. Kerry, the...

A serious president would look to dynamic solutions to confront a power hungry realist like Vladimir Putin. But Joe Biden has so-far proven to be incapable of leveraging U.S. power abroad, and Kamala Harris is by no means up to the task either. Since the start of his presidency, Biden has leaned hard into what could be called a radical environmentalist agenda, essentially declaring war on American energy that isn’t wind or solar. We saw this when Biden canceled the Keystone natural gas pipeline, issued moratoriums on oil and gas leases, and with the administration's emphasis on Environmental Social Guidance...

TransAlta Renewables Inc. has to replace foundations of 50 wind turbines at Kent Hills wind farm.. An investigation into what caused the collapse of a wind turbine at New Brunswick's largest wind farm has revealed serious structural issues that affect not only the turbine that fell, but dozens of others in the area as well. According to TransAlta Renewables Inc., the Alberta-based company that owns and operates the Kent Hills wind farm, the cracks formed because of "deficiencies in the original design of the foundations." This caused a 100-metre-tall turbine to collapse in the fall of 2021. Now the company...

MIAMI (AP) — Federal officials have reversed a decision to allow a South Florida nuclear power plant to continue running for another 30 years by ordering a new review of potential environmental risks, including those posed by climate change. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued an order Thursday to reverse a 2019 decision by a previous, Republican-led commission to extend Florida Power & Light’s operating license for two reactors at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant until 2052 and 2053, respectively. The reactors have been operating since 1972 and 1973, respectively. The reversal gives environmental groups a chance to reiterate...

WASHINGTON (AP) — An inflation gauge that is closely monitored by the Federal Reserve jumped 6.1% in January compared with a year ago, the latest evidence that Americans are enduring sharp price increases that will likely worsen after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The figure reported Friday by the Commerce Department was the largest year-over-year rise since 1982. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, core inflation increased 5.2% in January from a year earlier. Robust consumer spending has combined with widespread product and worker shortages to create the highest inflation in four decades — a heavy burden for U.S. households, especially...

The Taliban has called on Russia and Ukraine to 'resolve the crisis through peaceful means' months after massacring innocent people as they took over Afghanistan. In a statement posted to the Taliban's official Twitter account, which now goes by the name of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the militant group said it was concerned 'about real possibility of civilian casualties.' Under the seal of the Emirate's Ministry of Foreign Affairs - that closely resembles the seals used by US government departments - the Taliban called for dialogue to be held between Russia and Ukraine and to safeguard Afghans in Ukraine.

Americans have often looked down their noses at the authoritarian ways of other nations and thought, “that will never happen in the United States.” But after enduring our own governmnet’s overreach throughout the pandemic, I wonder how many folks are still sure about that. I can only speak for myself, but every affront to liberty around the globe now seems a potential scourge for the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provides the latest example. His illiberal response to the Canadian trucker protests breaks new ground for Democratic countries looking to infringe on their citizens' basic freedoms. Last week, despite...

Ohio is moving closer to becoming the next member of the Constitutional Carry club. In 2021, the Ohio Senate and House had both passed Constitutional carry bills that were similar in purpose. The Senate bill is SB 215. The House Bill is HB 227. When two similar bills pass the Senate and the House, there is some horse-trading which goes on to see which bill, and which chamber will get credit for passing a bill into law. It appears the Senate Bill, SB 215 has become the chosen vehicle. On January 25, 2022, SB 215 was assigned to the House...

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sent oil futures above $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014 and will probably bring $4-a-gallon gasoline to much of the United States. But it won’t be a major drag on US economic growth. Economists project that at most the nation’s gross domestic product, the broadest measure of its economic activity, will have a few tenths of a percentage point shaved off its growth rate. With the economy growing very strong — GDP had its best growth since 1984 last year — America is expected to weather those higher prices just fine, even...

Donald J. Trump was the only U.S. president in the past two decades to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin. The others — George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and now Joe Biden — all saw Putin seize foreign territory by force during their terms. The reason is simple: Trump was polite but tough, and unpredictable; while Bush, Obama, and Biden all attempted to appease the Russian leader, on the theory that past American assertiveness was the real problem, and Putin’s reaction was understandable. In 2008, while a weakened and unpopular Bush was in Beijing, China, to watch the Olympics, Putin invaded...

An ancient Greek Corinthian helmet was found in a fifth century BC grave in the Taman Peninsula, southwest Russia. Made of bronze, ancient Greek Corinthian helmets covered the entire head and neck, with slits for the eyes and mouth, protruding cheek covers (paragnathides) and a curved protrusion in the back to protect the nape of the neck. The helmet has a padded interior made of fabric or leather to protect the warrior’s skull. These helmets were essential for the Greek hoplites, the famous foot soldiers of the phalanxes.

India is exploring ways to set up a rupee payment mechanism for trade with Russia to soften the blow on New Delhi of Western sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, government and banking sources said.
