India is exploring ways to set up a rupee payment mechanism for trade with Russia to soften the blow on New Delhi of Western sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, government and banking sources said.

Indian officials are concerned that vital supplies of fertilizer from Russia could be disrupted as sanctions intensify, threatening India's vast farm sector.

Sanctions won’t do any good at all. Putin already insulated himself from some of the effects, and the world will find a way to work around them and continue business with Russia.

We should have done two things — continued with our own energy independence, and ramped up exports to cripple Russia’s energy industry (effectively wiping out their cash cow), and sold a crap load of arms to Ukraine and eastern Europe.

All we have left is the Almighty Reserve Dollar. By undercutting the sanctions to settle trades outside the US dollar, our primacy is chipped away.

India is as self-interested as we are. Russia with China are developing their own monetary exchange system, and India is onboard as is Iran and other countries.

We are seeing the birth of a new system and a new geo-political reality. Whether this is intended or not, our officials are either blind or complicit. It is hard to tell. The more frightening point is that they are neither, but simply stupid.

Why the hell would the Russians do that?
They are exporting Russian oil at over twice the price and in inflated dollars to the USA and getting money transferred through the Swift system.

And again, we have been suckered by the elites running this country. We are paying for Russia’s invasion.

How does it feel to be suckers? I dont like it and I doubt none of you do either.

We can safely predict that the Indian side will be overly complicated and that whatever software they deploy will have more bugs than a Florida picnic in July. I wish them all good luck in their venture.

India worried about their supply of manure? Why not just pick up the phone and give the Biden Administration a call.

That’s why our sanctions don’t have any teeth. If we try to ‘punish’ Putin by cutting him off from banking (i.e., dollar trading), China will simply take over world banking, and our $30T debt will have to be dealt with.

Our cards are VERY LIMITED here. Probably should have thought about creating options at least 8 years ago (after Putin took Crimea). Now it’s too late...we get DESTROYED trying to ‘punish’ Putin.

It is already taking place. Inflation is largely a result of it.

Thanks, India. We'll be sure to piss on you when we see the opportunity. But then, your cities smell like piss, feces and rotting flesh...so you'll probably just think it's a rain shower.

The world knows the IS is weak. One more term of Obama, I mean Biden, and no one will respect us. They see the future. An America run but trannies and tree huggers with a rotten third world imported culture, and a strong China with money to spend and resources to sell.

The Russians will have to get pretty desperate to take rupees.

As of yesterday, the ruble is weaker than the Indian Rupee. It was within 5% before. So not sure what you mean.

In addition India require a lot of spares for the military. And cheaper Oil. Russia will likely not pay a financial price for this war. The will earn back through higher Oil prices. Plus all their old equipment is used up. They can buy new.
