Arguably the best exchange during Tuesday nightâs gubernatorial debate (the first of two) came when Phil Murphy â who spent most of the night trying to deflect away from his record â tried to smack Jack Ciattarelli over January 6th. âIf you want to talk about disqualifiers: âIf taxes are your issue, weâre probably not your state,'â Ciattarelli said, responding to Murphyâs oft-repeated allegation that the GOP nominee willingly participated in a âStop the Stealâ rally. âOr saying that you wanted to make New Jersey the California of the East Coast? I consider those disqualifiers.â âThe people died, Assemblyman! People...

“I like kids better than people,” President Biden said Friday after getting a hug from a toddler in Connecticut while nearby protesters bellowed, “F–k Joe Biden.” “When I talked to all your folks out on the playground, I joked that everybody knows I like kids better than people. Fortunately they like me. That’s why maybe I like them,” Biden said during a speech in Hartford. Biden, 78, kneeled on the playground of the Capitol Child Development Center and gave one child a hug and spoke to several others. But the playground cheer was nearly drowned out by protesters and immigration...

Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration has announced the creation of a $5 million grant program designed to spur COVID-19 vaccination in underserved communities. Wolf announced the new COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach Grant Program at an event in Philadelphia Friday afternoon. The program will provide grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 for outreach efforts. The money can be used for community-based vaccination events, supplies, equipment to set up vaccine appointments, training materials and media buys, the Wolf administration said. Earlier this week, Pennsylvania reached a milestone with 70% of the state’s adults being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. But the governor and state lawmakers...

U.S. consumer sentiment took a surprise downturn in October to the second-lowest level since 2011. The University of Michigan’s preliminary October read of consumer sentiment fell to 71.4 from 72.8 in September, data released Friday showed. Economists had forecast an improvement to 74. Richard Curtin, the survey’s chief economists explained the downturn: Consumer sentiment has remained for the past three months at the lows first recorded in response to last year’s shutdown of the economy. The Delta variant, supply chain shortages, and reduced labor force participation rates will continue to dim the pace of consumer spending into 2022. There is...

The treatment reduced the risk of reaching mechanical ventilation by 44%. ICU admissions were lower by 43%, and an overall in-hospital mortality saw a 47% decrease. Over-the-counter aspirin could protect the lungs of COVID-19 patients and minimize the need for mechanical ventilation, according to new research at the George Washington University. The team investigated more than 400 COVID patients from hospitals across the United States who take aspirin unrelated to their COVID disease, and found that the treatment reduced the risk of several parameters by almost half: reaching mechanical ventilation by 44%, ICU admissions by 43%, and overall in-hospital mortality...

he prototype glucose-monitoring sensor, adhered to a volunteer's armJia Zhu VIEW 1 IMAGES Currently, most diabetics have to check their blood glucose levels by performing finger-prick blood tests, or via subdermal implanted sensors. An experimental new device, however, could someday do the job while simply adhered to the surface of the user's skin. Presently being developed at Pennsylvania State University, the low-cost sensor is about the size of a US quarter-dollar coin, and is designed to measure glucose levels in the wearer's sweat. Although the glucose concentration in sweat is about one one-hundredth as much as that in the bloodstream,...

On Morning Joe, Willie Geist stopped short of stamping his feet. However, in spite of unpredictable swings in the economy and prices, one store has remained consistent throughout it all. Dollar Tree has long been known for being the last true “dollar store” which spans the whole US. After 35 years, the Dollar Tree has announced they’ll begin to carry products with a price over one dollar. This invites two important questions: how was the store able to keep prices low for...
